@RiotDemon Ditto- too busy working on my vehicles- brake problems popped up on 3 of them within a few days of each other.
BTW, when I went to my local Hazard Fraught, AKA Chinese tool outlet, AKA Harbor Freight for a couple of [more or less throw-away] tools for specific tasks, I noticed that they were completely sold out of all respirators, dust masks, safety goggles, and face shields.
Likewise Wally World was sold out of Aspirin, Hand Sanitizer, and Vitamin C- some of which might be their normal Monday post weekend sold out of everything, but there did seem to be more infection-control related sellouts than is the usual norm.
This included all gallons of water except “infant water”, whatever that is…
Remember to wash or sanitize your hands, cover your coughs and sneezes, and report to the nearest euthanasia station of you develop fever cough and/or shortness of breath.
[Sorry I couldn’t resist the Soylent Green reference…]
@amehzinggrace Haven’t seen it yet, but since I read in an interview that the director had the cast watch Bringing Up Baby to get a sense of the level of screwball comedy she wanted it moved to the top of my list.
This month I have only seen Birds of Prey so far. My kind of cartoon violence.
Last month I saw Fantasy Island. Not an amazing movie but much better than the previews let on.
I also saw Parasite. Very good movie.
I don’t go to a lot of movies to start with, but I did finally convince the Mrs. to go to a movie two weeks ago. We did not choose wisely! The movie: “Downhill” started off with some pretty scenery & then went…you got it…downhill from there! I mean, Come On…Elaine from Seinfeld & Buddy The Elf come together in one movie? How much fun is this going to be?
*SPOILER ALERT
Nothing could be further from the truth! Incessant whining from the female lead, and a guy who’s been kicked in the nuts so many times, there’s probably nothing left of his junk is the attributes found in the male lead. The guy’s survival instinct (not choice) kicks in and he dives for safety when the aftermath of an avalanche targets the outdoor restaurant he & his family are eating at. This one event triggers an avalanche of overly-emotional melodrama that permeates the rest of the movie. I sat through the movie thinking, at some point there’s going to be an “A-Ha” moment or some point of redemption, but it never came to be. Seriously poor movie. In fact, I’ll let the titles for the reviews from IMDB.com do the talking…“Horrible”, “Candidate for WORST movie of the year”, “Watch for the scenery (if you have to). Movie is a huge downer!”, “Avalanche of a Movie”, “Waste of time”, “A downer for a Valentine’s Day release”…#NuffSaid
@tohar1 I’ve heard nothing good about the movie but I want to see it as it was filmed in Ischgl, Austria and I skied there two years ago. Ironically, this winter I skied where they filmed On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Maybe I should start planning my trips around filming locations.
@tohar1 I was thinking this sounded familiar and that it was supposed to be a good movie and then realized they must have done a remake of Force Majeure
I saw The Invisible Man (2020). Well, in general, nothing remarkable. I wouldn’t go a second time. The movie is not bad. I just do not like films of this genre. No spoilers.
@sammydog01 I disagree on Vin Diesel, especially in this setting of a film. He pretty much carried “Pitch Black”. Admittedly, the F&F franchise is terrible, but he gets bags of money to do it, so its understandable why he does it. But give him some campy sci-fi scenery to chew through and it’s a hoot. That sounds like this kind of film, so I’ll give it a shot.
Recently saw all the hype for this after seeing the Golden Globe noms. I was surprised I hadn’t heard of this earlier, but it sort of just popped up on my Netflix. The hype is real though, it’s a wonderfully done family drama with incredible writing and performances across the board. I think the film keeps an objective view of the two leads fairly well while letting the viewer make conclusions.
I don’t read reviews, I go mostly based on the previews. I had no idea this was political satire. I really enjoyed it- a bit too much gore for my taste but it was pretty funny. And I liked the message.
If you have major political views on either end of the spectrum you may be highly offended.
@RiotDemon Cinemark theaters are closed as well. They have also adjusted/paused their rewards program and won’t charge the monthly fee until the theaters reopen.
It’s a weird commercial that has a bunch of random clips at the beginning and then the longer breakdowns afterward. The elevator scene at 2:11 is my favorite.
When I was looking it up, I saw they came out with a new one last month:
I bet Kristen Stewart kicks herself for cheating way back when.
@RiotDemon This is one of those movies I have online because I saw a set in the theater. That’s the main reason I went but I really liked it. I wonder if part of the gate is the anti-social media message.
@RiotDemon I meant the review hate. 14% on Rotten Tomatoes. Cats got 20%. It sounds like you didn’t completely hate it like a lot of people. It was over the top and ridiculous, but I liked it anyway.
@sammydog01 I haven’t watched cats yet. That was another that I missed at the theatre. I actually saw Cats at the theatre when I was around 11. Honestly, I think the practical effects version looked better than the cgi. Too much uncanny valley I think.
@RiotDemon@sammydog01 I just finished up Jexi tonight. I thought it was funny. I wonder how in all these movies these broke ass characters live in such fabulous apartments/houses/lofts. I guess it is nice to look at and I do enjoy admiring the locations…
I have not been to the theatre this month yet. My unlimited regal pass is going to waste!
@RiotDemon I’m behind too.
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 SHAME ON YOU BOTH, WE DEPEND ON YOU!

Brahms The Boy II
Scary doll, creepy kid. Pretty much what you would expect. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t call it good.
@sammydog01 It definitely falls short of a masterpiece. But the movie is not bad. I would not call him very scary.

aw…remember when people were going to movie theaters?
@therealjrn I really miss going. It’s not the same at home,
I saw the new Emma last night…very good…I highly recommend it…

@dark_lord I love films of that genre and didn’t like it much.

Bloodshot
I really liked this movie- ridiculous escapist fun with some cool special effects. Vin Diesel is a terrible actor but Guy Pearce makes up for that.
33% on Rotten Tomatoes
@sammydog01 I disagree on Vin Diesel, especially in this setting of a film. He pretty much carried “Pitch Black”. Marriage Story (2019)

@riotdemon @narfcake @thumperchick
Spam link alert. The post has a generic marketing smell, too.
@mike808 @narfcake @Thumperchick they’ve been here for 262 days. Seems like an odd thing to spam.
@narfcake @RiotDemon @Thumperchick
Then remove the link and let the post stand.
Or link to IMDB (although, that is now owned by Jeff’s mothership).
@mike808 Now owned by Jeffazon? They bought IMDB back in 1998.
@mike808 @yakkoTDI I rarely go to IMDB since AMZN killed the forums. Fuckers.
The Hunt
I don’t read reviews, I go mostly based on the previews. I had no idea this was political satire. I really enjoyed it- a bit too much gore for my taste but it was pretty funny. And I liked the message.
If you have major political views on either end of the spectrum you may be highly offended.
@sammydog01 Thanks for the warning! I’m already offended.
@therealjrn Well you should be.
Regal and AMC are both closed down now.
Hopefully all the movies that would of left the theatre are still playing when they open back up.
@RiotDemon Cinemark theaters are closed as well. They have also adjusted/paused their rewards program and won’t charge the monthly fee until the theaters reopen.
@sammydog01 I finally watched the correct version of The Lighthouse. There was more farting than masturbation, lol
Honestly, it wasn’t much different than the other Lighthouse movie I watched. A little more supernatural, perhaps.
I could of watched Pattinson shovel more coal shirtless.
@RiotDemon I agree with you about that.

/giphy robert pattinson shirtless
@sammydog01 here’s some more eye candy:
It’s a weird commercial that has a bunch of random clips at the beginning and then the longer breakdowns afterward. The elevator scene at 2:11 is my favorite.
When I was looking it up, I saw they came out with a new one last month:
I bet Kristen Stewart kicks herself for cheating way back when.
Also, this is weird and written by him:
He seems fun.
Jexi.
It was stupid. I was slightly entertained. It was just really over the top.
@RiotDemon This is one of those movies I have online because I saw a set in the theater. That’s the main reason I went but I really liked it. I wonder if part of the gate is the anti-social media message.
@sammydog01 the message was good, but it was so over the top.
I couldn’t agree with his decisions. Guess that’s why.
Jexi, no, I didn’t hate it, but it was stupid.
@RiotDemon I liked Cats too. This is why you should never take my opinion seriously.
@sammydog01 haha, noted.
Also, I said theatre twice. I saw the play at a playhouse theatre… Not the movies.
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 I just finished up Jexi tonight. I thought it was funny. I wonder how in all these movies these broke ass characters live in such fabulous apartments/houses/lofts. I guess it is nice to look at and I do enjoy admiring the locations…
I also learned not to send out so many dick pics.
