I have a playlist called “Energy” for just these kind of days. It’s got songs from pretty much every genre that I either enjoy singing along with or just make me want to get up and dance (both my singing and dancing are terrible btw). Usually it only takes a song or two to motivate me to get up and start doing what I need to be doing.
I second the idea to get your work done today around the house so you can relax this weekend. Of course, I am typing this instead of washing my hand-wash only dishes like I should be doing right now…

I’m afraid I can’t help you. I’m supposed to be cleaning out the garage. So far, it’s taken me half the day just to push the button on the garage door opener.
@ruouttaurmind OR as my nephew said some years ago in a thank you note, “I am sorry this thank you note is so late. Procrastination is my best skill. I practice it a lot”. Priceless. I gave that note to my sister to save for him for later.
If motivational “games” don’t help because you are “too practical” as you put it, does “practicality” itself not provide sufficient motivation to get started?
Sometimes when there is something that needs doing and I truly hate the doing if it, I just allow myself to get really angry and hateful and then do the horrible task in a state of rage. During which I sometimes curse all of existence.
@f00l@reg036 I got a book “Unf*ck Your Habitat”. Gave it a cursory read, then dumped it on a table where it is currently buried under more shit… Basically it’s about breaking stuff down into manageable chunks, which we’ve all heard before. But this is 20 minutes then a 10-minute break so you don’t burn out/overwhelm. What I find is that I manage to get little pockets of stuff done. But that makes the stuff I haven’t done look worse and l spiral into despair… Well, not that dramatic, but it is disheartening!!
@llangley I have a similar decluttering book living under all the crap on my coffee table. I did read the first chapter or two but it’s been so long since I’ve seen it that I don’t even remember the exact title.
You could try “productive procrastination” - do something else that needs done so you aren’t doing what needs to be done… Then at least something is accomplished.
Also since you wrote this post the other day, did you finally manage to get anything done that you needed to do?
The longer you stick around here, the more likely you end up buying a rolling duffel bag you probably don’t really need.
@dave
Thankfully not everybody has those temptations.
@dave @PlacidPenguin Find more people with less impulse control. Got it!
@dave @Targaryen
I wouldn’t say I have impulse control. Look how many orders I’ve made! (Although 2 were free.)

@stardate820926 - At least give us a few titles!
Do it all today so you don’t have to do it Saturday or Sunday.
@Targaryen have more then a single days labor ahead.
@Targaryen I hate people who try to be logical.
nah. just sit back, make an old fashioned, and turn on Netflix. productivity is overrated.
@carl669 That’s my go-to demotivation libation!

Turn radio to upbeat music. Work for 5 songs then you get to be lazy for 1 song. Repeat all day.

@Barney
Is there anything interesting and mailable in the garage which you’d want to get rid of?
@PlacidPenguin Just some old carpet, leaves leftover from last fall, and some cobwebs.
@Barney That is probably enough exercise for your finger today. Don’t want to tire it out.
@Barney well at least your finger got some work in lol.

Cook something! Find a cool recipe to try and make something new and interesting, and hopefully tasty
Too a bike ride, got some iced coffee and found a little drive to get going.

@reg036
Does it keep if you let yourself get (gently) pissed off at yourself if you don’t do it?
Or if you think/fantasize about "life on the other side of the task(s)?
Or if you “game” the tasks by thinking of and implementing better or more efficient or more clever ways to do them?
Or if you ask yourself if they really really really need doing at all?
@f00l
why not ask the magic 8 ball?
/8ball does it help?
Outlook not so good
They need doing, and Jedi mind tricks aren’t effective on me, I’m too practical to trick myself.

It is best if other humans aren’t nearby.
But sometimes this works.
