The kids enjoyed the one I bought last year. Then I got a better one fir the same price at Lowe’s on December 26, so we will be using the new one this year. This one was nice enough to keep so the kids can pick each year though.
This one actually spits out steam (or it was burning up inside at random times ).
Boy, if you wanted to guarantee that I’d never give this to anyone, you should have mentioned the way Amazon describes this: "As featured on “Fox and Friends.” I think someone should buy them all and bury them somewhere.
@mediocrebot@Ozzie2191 I mean I didn’t want to say it because heck–it’s my order and maybe I’m a little biased that I may have the weirdest order confirmation image–but yes, this has to be the winner. Never mind the train this was worth $19. (Just kidding send the train.)
@lichme nice. We did a similar ride later year. It was all cool until the hot cocoa dispenser started burning. It was mostly empty on high heat and filled the cabin with smoke.
Is this compatible with all the HO scale buildings that Menards keeps trying to push on me? I will admit, their nuclear plant is pretty sweet, reminiscent of the plant in Saints Row.
@fuzzmanmatt If you are serious, NO, this is not HO size, nor would any true model railroader allow this on a layout. If you are being sardonic, then . . . heh heh.
I bought it last year and put it around our tree. You have to hold the Engine in place on the tracks as you switch it on and hope it or the cars don’t jump off the tracks. Once it is going it’s okay but it still will occasionally lose the cars it’s towing. I wouldn’t buy it again FWIW. It’s around my tree again this year and still is a pain to get going correctly. I’ll probably get something with speed control not on the engine itself.
@Fuzb0 Once it is going it’s okay but it still will occasionally lose the cars it’s towing.
There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction they are going
Are there hobos it is stowing?
Was this constructed by Boeing?

Cause it’s certainly not showing

We all know I’m going to mention pop sockets, so there done, but if we’re going to sell trains to go around a Christmas tree can’t we get a good one that shoots steam?
@technec I snagged this from meh last year. You can run it without train sound, with sound, or with sound and smoke. The smoke was pretty cool, but after one year it stopped working. We filled it with the recommended oil, but I think the heating element is shot.
@cinoclav nah that was our photographer (I did do the meh face today but usually I don’t have a hand in either unless something comes up). Agreed it is a great pic
Speak of the devil, I’m about to set up the one just like this one that I bought here last year. For the price, it’s a good little train set. My mother is allergic to Christmas trees, so I put pine-scented smoke fluid into the locomotive. Now we get real choo-choo smoke AND a fragrant tree without the needles and sneezing! I enjoyed the new ‘Little Toy Train’ video and the Meh face for this one.
@grishamazing mine went way too fast too, but i weighted one of the cars with some batteries and topped it with wine corks to simulate “logs”. Im sure its terrible for the engine, but meh
This looks to be the same or similar make as the FAO Shwarz motorized train set. My daughter received that for christmas last year and she likes watching it. As others have said it moves surprisingly quickly.
I would say for what the FAO Shwarz one costs it isn’t worth it - it’s just cheap plastic, etc. But for this cost it would be a cool thing to have running around your christmas tree if that’s your thing.
One of my most vivid childhood memories is of the year my dad brought home an elaborate model train set, and my sisters and I watched as he assembled it and populated the ‘town’ with an assortment of increasingly-surreal elements - model space aliens and tiny flying saucers, animals with mis-matched heads, etc. Unfortunately, he was mentally ill and we were squatters in an unfinished basement, and the ping-pong table upon which he built the train set was almost immediately subsumed by his hoarding. I remember very clearly my sisters and I forming a bucket brigade to put out the electrical fire the train started, and feeling very sad that the mismatched-head-animals were melting alive.
Anyway, I’m in for one - now I just gotta decide how much of my childhood model train memories to inflict on my own kid!
got one last year but really wanted it to be a longer track, so Im in for another. if this is a yearly item, I may end up getting one every year and working on my Christmas tree infrastructure and urban development.
Highly disappointed in this item. Very cheaply made and there are design problems. 1) train runs too fast for track 2) train wheels don’t stay on track (even if you make it go slow) 3) cars don’t stay together 4) tracks very easily break (connection tabs) 5) Not child-friendly…Torque for the wheels don’t ‘give’, pinching little fingers.
I’m very rarely one to complain, but I am so very disappointed in this, I needed to say something.
I am not looking for a refund, we will keep the train itself for decoration.
(btw, all other meh deals I have experienced were far better quality.)
Hey RobbieF I bought 3 of these and I am going to say I got what i expected for the price, but I did have to fix a few things to make it go around the track successfully several times without jumping the track or tossing the cars.
one I spread out the wheels on the cars so they are as wide as they can go before they rub on the plastic of the car. this was very easy with 2 hands.
the other thing I did was took a small Philips screwdriver and removed the screw holding the front wheels of the engine on and put a washer under there. now put the screw back. This tightened up the front end and it is doing pretty well now! (dont over tighten, just make it not so floppy).

Mota? Try not-a-phone-pop-socket come on meh it’s almost Christmas.
Steaming past this one…
Meh. Just tooting your horn and blowing smoke.
What makes this a holiday train? not even a wreath on the front.
@dtwsportsfan The Christmas tree it goes around.
@dtwsportsfan Buying it in December. Mind you, that’s particularly odd for this site.
@dtwsportsfan Well, there’s this, but I’m not so sure what’s Christmasy about it.

I kinda like “THE COAL” though.
@blaineg @dtwsportsfan why is it silver?
Woot Woot…wait wrong site.
@Stallion The other site seems to be selling this as well for a few dollars more.
@LaVikinga @Stallion cheaper if you have Amazon Prime and no meh free shipping

Sorry, we aren’t looking for red wine…wait wrong site.
I bought this last November on here. Now it is five dollars less. It is a cool train though. I like the real smoke that comes out.
That train Meh face is adorable

@osiris3mc It worked! Your order number is: unhappy-quick-tooth

@mediocrebot @osiris3mc The images we get when you do this are always weird, but this one wins. I mean seriously…wtf?

@mediocrebot @osiris3mc @shaconaqe Now THAT’S an unhappy tooth!
Just took our daughter on a train yesterday to the “North Pole” to see Santa, and she had a blast.
Hopefully this holds up better than the MOTA headphones I bought that were absolute trash.

@fuzzmanmatt Can’t tell how serious… On the off chance it is, this looks much large than HO.
/giphy no radiation for you

@wickhameh this comment needs more stars.
/giphy stars
@RiotDemon @wickhameh I already gave it all the stars I could.
I like the shots of it just running around on the floor, off-track, that looks like fun. Like the Roomba doesn’t freak out the cats enough already …
We all know I’m going to mention pop sockets, so there done, but if we’re going to sell trains to go around a Christmas tree can’t we get a good one that shoots steam?
@deathbynoodlez Would you settle for ‘real puffs of smoke?’
meh
How is the noise level on this? I got one 2 years ago at Lowes…it was absolutely crazy loud, to the point it took away the joy.
@technec I snagged this from meh last year. You can run it without train sound, with sound, or with sound and smoke. The smoke was pretty cool, but after one year it stopped working. We filled it with the recommended oil, but I think the heating element is shot.
@abmille it was the noise of the train, not the sounds it can make.
This picture though… Was this your doing @Moose? It’s very well done and makes me smile.
@cinoclav I love that photo too.
@cinoclav nah that was our photographer (I did do the meh face today but usually I don’t have a hand in either unless something comes up). Agreed it is a great pic

I got one last year, never set it up. Maybe I will this year.
@lisaviolet buy another and crash them into each other!
@medz Aw, geez. You kids and your blowing shit up…
@lisaviolet @medz
Just got the daily Meh e-mail. The title should have read “As a parent, here’s another holiday chore your kids will scream about until its done.”

@Alderuen if you don’t want more trains, here’s some tracks:

@RiotDemon cool thanks, that will be good for next year then.
The cats will destroy this… also why we don’t have a tree for it to go around.
I’m holding out for this set.
