Light - Dark as possible
Noise - Quiet as possible
Temperature - Slightly cool
No computer, tablet, pad, or phone screens 1 hour prior. Dim all lights 1 hour prior.
Firstly, I require a 21-gun salute before retiring.
Secondly, ‘tis needful that my nightly repast be served by a trio of strong, limber contraltos, each of whom must be shorter than 5’4”.
Thirdly, no squabbling over Great-Uncle Nestor’s will for at least ten minutes before lights out.
Fourthly, the ancestral ritual shall be carried out by the chamber captain behind the arras until the counting of my 14th snore.
Fifthly, somebody needs to remember to top off the water in my CPAP. And don’t use tap water for Christ’s sake.
Sixthly, upon the chiming of the ninth bell, the cinnamon vapor shall be released upon my person.
Seventhly, no unsanctioned philanderers of low purpose or slipshod breeding shall be allowed to creep in yon ivied transom, unless they shall spin a frightfully clever patter.
Eighthly, if sleep shall not come there shall be a reckoning, followed by a scathing indictment, withering rebuttals, lamentable misdirection, guile, headstrong bullroaring, a break for light refreshments, and a panicked summing-up.
Ninthly, domestics otherwise undirected shall whisper selections from the letters of Josephine to Napoleon, taking care to elide less zesty passages, until the dawn scrapingly begs my attention.
@Seeds Sounds like me. Yet I have a gf who likes to fall asleep with the tv on. What a pain in the ass. Ear plugs and the above mentioned eye mask are important to my sanity.
As long as I’m not sweating, I can sleep most places. I spent most of last night sleeping sitting on my couch, fully clothed, with the lights on. I remember as a teenager sleeping with a Pantera CD playing fairly loudly. My parents didn’t tip toe around at night trying not to wake us up, so that’s why I think noise doesn’t usually bother me, unless it’s ridiculously excessive.
Most comfortable sleep is when it’s fairly dark, cool, and I can bundle up part of my comforter to hug if I don’t have a partner in my bed.
absolutely temperature, if it’s too warm i can’t sleep. not looking forward to tomorrow and thursday where it’s supposed to be randomly in the 80s in boston. i also need it to be cold enough where i can sleep wrapped up in my comforter like a burrito. during the warmer months the a/c is literally a few inches from my head.
darkness, and a star trek or house episode followed by quiet is also nice, but i suspect i could do without if absolutely necessary as long as the temperature factor was met.
Temperature must not be too hot. Cold/cool is fine, as long as I have a comforter or something.
Light must not be too bright, but I’m fine in total darkness or nightlight.
The biggest problem is silence/noise. I don’t like random noise, like snoring or the TV. And, if it’s silent, there’s more chance of that random noise occurring. I like to sleep with a sound machine or a fan on (sorry Korean friends). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fan_death
Being naked.
@jst1ofknd too much information there.
@hchavers Not enough information ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@hchavers @JoetatoChip Same viewpoint, different perspectives.
Amended list. Being naked. Wife similarly attired. And my CPAP.
The pillow is a big part of this.
@shahnm Yeah, I was going to answer bed, but pillow is more important.
Two pillows. One below the head, the other on top. Head betwixt them like the filling of an Oreo.
@melonscoop Ha! I didn’t think anyone outside of my own family did that!
Temperature. Temperature. Temperature.
Which is why I’m always looking for cool bedding solutions (most recently buying a bed fan).
@JT954 Linen all the way.

@AGentleman that’s me to the T, i also get migraines which is why I have to have it dark in my room
@AGentleman @ragingredd do you use sleep masks? I love mine
@moonhat I often use one. Having tried several, my favorite is the Tempur-pedic mask. Ironically, it’s on woot right now.

Anywhere it is (relatively) quiet and comfortable.
Two full-time jobs, all night studying, and international travel screwed up my sleep patterns.
No polyester.
@Fen_Star No kidding.

@UncleVinny That’s what I was going to say.
@UncleVinny Clever! (That was worthy of copying and sending off to my mom and sis… writers)
Blanket wrapped around me burrito style and over my head. I’m a claustrophile.
Temperature (cold is fine, hot is impossible), light (needs to be completely dark), noise (any noise drives me crazy)
@Seeds how about goat sounds? Do they suit you?
@UncleVinny All sounds I make suit me.
@Seeds Sounds like me. Yet I have a gf who likes to fall asleep with the tv on. What a pain in the ass. Ear plugs and the above mentioned eye mask are important to my sanity.
@cinoclav My wife likes to watch tv too. I just fall asleep after her.

My elaborate set of requirements: preferably above freezing; away from direct sunlight. A pillow is a plus.
Head on one pillow, therapy cat on the other.
A night of no farts from my husband is nice.
@moonhat But unlikely.
@lseeber so, so sadly true
@lseeber @moonhat would you rather his tummy hurt?
@lseeber @medz wow, way to make me feel bad
/giphy oh the guilt

The most important part is the company.
If it’s not hot and humid, I can sleep standing on my feet.
@cranky1950

Dogs, dogs and more dogs
All of those are important. Comfortable bed, light blanket, complete darkness, no noises, and a cool (not cold) room. Sex before bed also helps.
A comfortable blanket.
Am I tired?
Guy:Girl ratio
/youtube the Golden rule
Somehow both none and all of the above.
