yuck. you sold far superior headphones a short time ago (the 808s) which are just great. I stocked up on those, buying like... a shitload. so I'm giving this a pass
Thank you, but no thanks. Put some more of those wired+wireless 808's up again and I'll be in for at least another two pair; I love the set I got last time. They'll make some great birthday/Christmas presents.
@Twiminy On some products their markup was by more than a factor of 10. This may or may not be a fair price for this product, but don't fall for the old 75% off the sticker price, it must be a bargain trap. That is the basis of the White Van Speaker Scam. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_van_speaker_scam
@hamjudo Dude I totally remember this. I was an undergrad at UCLA and these guys pulled up in a freaking white van offering like $1,000 speakers for a couple hundred bucks! They had some really elaborate story as to why they were going to sell them to me. Needless to say I didn't pull the trigger. I regret it every day since. Haha.
eBay is saying $50-$80. I stocked up on these a couple years ago for this price - through kohls stackable coupons. Sold them for $120. They're OK headphones. Just came here to brag, carry on.
Monster is shitty IP suing scumbag of a company that I would not want meh.com to be associated with. They are one of the worst patent bullies out there and everyone should do their best to ignore everything they sell so they fade into oblivion.
@Clark So it's your opinion that a company shouldn't sue if another company infringes on a patent they own? That being the case, why get any patents at all because isn't that the whole purpose for getting a patent? It gives you the exclusive rights to the IP for a specific period of time.
@cengland0 Monster is a known patent bully suing for frivolous reasons in hopes of settling out of court. Do some searching on it. They sued a Minature Golf Course that used Monster in the name cause it was a movie monster based theme for the course. They have abused the patent system which hopefully will ultimately due us a favor and push patent reform but I doubt that their reason behind it. Overall, overpriced shitty hardware.
@Clark I'm aware of patent bullies but the example you provided sounds more like a trademark issue. When you trademark a name, you specify the categories it will be used in. That leaves that same name open for other uses. For example, the trademark "Meh" has two different companies using it. One for an ecommerce/website and a different company for pharmaceuticals.
I'm pretty sure using the word Monster in a miniature golf course is perfectly legal and outside the scope of the Monster Cable's trademark. It could also be considered a frivolous suit and fits under Rule 11 which can result in fines, dismissal of claims, or dismissal of the entire case.
@Clark@cengland0 Monster Cable abuses both patent and trademark law. There are two types of patents in the US. Wikipedia explains the lesser kind this way In the United States, a design patent is a form of legal protection granted to the ornamental design of a functional item.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_patent
@Clark The way it looks to me, they were unsuccessful in their attempts with the mini golf company. It still exists under their original name. http://www.monsterminigolf.com
@cengland0 That is a subtle understatement. Monster Cable dropped the lawsuit and agreed to pay up to $200,000 in legal fees. Unfortunately, in the bulk of cases, the target of the lawsuit lacks the resources to respond, so they are forced to cave and pay Monster Cable, even for the most baseless of threats. If Monster Cable wasn't making money from these tactics, they would have stopped long ago. Thanks to the magic of gag clauses in out of court settlements, we don't have accurate statistics.
@Clark RE Patent/Trademark reform, I'm not so sure the examples discussed above support that. It appears court/judge reform is needed.
We're too damned litigious. And judges too often are enablers rather than commonsense interpreters of the law.
Most important reform: rigorous loser pays everything in civil cases. If attorneys knew the odds could more likely sting them and their clients we'd see frivolous cases fall off.
These are crappy. Do not buy them. I had a pair for 8 months before the inner plastic broke and the slide portion would no longer stay inside. Monster said it was my fault for misuse, even though there was nothing else wrong with them, no even a scratch. After paying much more than this for them I would never buy another shitty plastic headphone from Monster. I hope Meh has to sit on these for a long time and finally suck it up and give them away just to get rid of them.
What's amusing about this and the writeup is that Beats was originally produced and developed by Monster. Beats screwed them out of their patents and designs and took them to HTC, and later Apple.
I have the red one. One of the best headphones in my opinion. I bought another Graphite one. My Sony ZX600 is remarkably similar sounding - but volume is softer, no controls and build quality does not feel as posh.
The best thing about this is the craigslist ad you can post after you inevitably lose them. Lost: I left my DNA on the backseat of the route 72 bus on Friday night. Reward.
My concern with these is the same I have with every headphone: Will it fit comfortably on a larger-than-normal head?
I agree with other posters that the 808 headphones sound great (to my old ears) and they fit my head comfortably. The Able Planet headphones you sold before don't sound as good and are not quite as comfortable, but not to the point of being immediately uncomfortable.
If you sell the 808s again, I'll be tempted to buy another pair. (Bundling with a speaker dock is optional.)
I can't seem to find the proper specs on these headphones. This is telling me that these are a waste of money. I've always thought of Monster as overpriced garbage that Best Buy likes to upsell.
If you want quality headphones go here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BYRGKY?ref_=gbrc_tit_r-1_6742_2f27e07d&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Ive had my vmodas for 2 years and believe me they are built like a TANK... they survived my mini Schnauzer biting stage, and they are surviving my toddler quite well... They sound awesome but dont take my word for it, look at the reviews they have :D
I picked up Koss headphones from a Tuesday Morning a couple years ago for sub $60. They have served me well since. I do however wish I had swooped some 808s that y'all boast about.
Does anyone else get a certain "ewww" feeling when considering buying refurbished headphones? Like, I hope they've deloused these things, or I hope "refurb" means "soaked in alcohol"?
I don't understand all the love for the 808s. I have a smaller than normal head and they are really uncomfortable (like, have to take them off in <2 min), tinny POS's, but DH seems to like them, so I don't know. Maybe I just have to have over ear instead of on ear cans. My favorite pair in recent years has been Skullcandy Aviators that were a birthday present. I don't think I have any desire to try Monster brand headphones.

Monster...as in monsterly overpriced....double meh.
No purple? For that alone, meh.
@heartny
i don't like purple.
@jml326 @heartny I love purple.
nah dawg
yuck. you sold far superior headphones a short time ago (the 808s) which are just great. I stocked up on those, buying like... a shitload. so I'm giving this a pass
@boygenius1991 i got those 808s too and am quite happy with them
@boygenius1991 I got a pair and they sound terrible and started falling apart within a couple weeks. No way these are worse.
@boygenius1991 808s Rock..
It's about time I realize that these things are almost never worth staying up for.
Thank you, but no thanks. Put some more of those wired+wireless 808's up again and I'll be in for at least another two pair; I love the set I got last time. They'll make some great birthday/Christmas presents.
@WardF I got 2 pairs of the wireless 808s. They are also awful. What is wrong with you people?
@crapstick maybe you got a bad pair? Or perhaps I got a good one? In either case they work well both wired or wireless.
@WardF Dito that
Considering monster brand's rep for being horrendously dishonest, that seems like a fair price. Don't want them though.
@Twiminy On some products their markup was by more than a factor of 10. @hamjudo is this what is like to be mansplained to
@Twiminy I splain the same way to all genders. Unfortunately, my splaining is entirely without social skills.

HERE THERE BE OPINIONS REGARDING MONSTERS
@Lotsofgoats
meh.
Daisy chaining on a long flight sounds great to me. Trashed-ancient-dress http://kingdomofstyle.typepad.co.uk/.a/6a00d8341c2f0953ef016301403acc970d-700wi
Presumably decent but normally overpriced headphones, does not mean an automatic Meh, however at 1/3 more than the 808 Duo's means Meh for me.

@cengland0 A company should not sue without a case in the hope that the victim will settle out of court to avoid the expense of a lawsuit.
@hamjudo I agree that a company should not sue unless they have an actual patent infringement.
@cengland0 Monster is a known patent bully suing for frivolous reasons in hopes of settling out of court. Do some searching on it. @cengland0 Yeah, I mixed up the trademark and patent but they are a patent bully and it did seam that they wanted to litigate rather then innovate to ensure their bottom line. http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/26/monster-cable-at-it-again-sues-mini-golf-company/ There are plenty more examples just a google search away.

Mmmmmmmmmmm....eh.
Not today...
I don't need these, as the ones I got over 20years ago still rock... But I have to say that MAN those Laser Blue ones look sexy!
@haydesigner well you set it up >>>> what did you buy 20 years ago
@CrossIT… oh right, sorry, didn't mean to be obtuse. They are Aiwa X301s.
@haydesigner there's and interesting company from the past.
Just eh
thats it

Had them for about a year so far. Love em. Tried many headphones, and these are "up there" in my books

Style is also a legitimate reason not to buy headphones. These are ugly.
Monster is a bully. Every once in a while they meet their match
http://www.audioholics.com/news/blue-jeans-strikes-back
Meh. On a whim, I got the 808 headphones when they were up and they're awesome.
My concern with these is the same I have with every headphone: Will it fit comfortably on a larger-than-normal head?

I think you mean "Googly Glasses"
@cinoclav I bet you wouldn't get any of these either.
After 8 years in Field Artillery, any headphones over 10 bucks are a complete waste. Love my 808's
@mdrcoast Amen
I can't seem to find the proper specs on these headphones. This is telling me that these are a waste of money. I've always thought of Monster as overpriced garbage that Best Buy likes to upsell.
How's the digital leak with these?
@darksaber99999 they're not certified for use in the toilet.
BTW, you seem to like the number nine just like the the Beatles do/did.

@jareza so you grew out of biting like a schnauzer?
@RedOak haha.... yes I grew past that :P
I think I'll stick with these:
@PocketBrain ... but I thought you carried your brain in your pocket?
@RedOak That's the bluetooth link to my brain, in my pocket.
The day I buy a Monster product is the day I turn in my geek creds.
I just picked up the Samsung Level Over's. Arrive tomorrow. Hope they're good.
I am nowhere near cool enough to wear these.
@Notrobocop me either, that's why I got the 808's
I picked up Koss headphones from a Tuesday Morning a couple years ago for sub $60. They have served me well since. I do however wish I had swooped some 808s that y'all boast about.

Finally broke my 21 day Meh streak. I know this is child's play to many.
The headphones are nice, however, to use the mic there is a 4 conductor jack that is compatible with no computer that I know of.
@Crotalus Phones. Many of those are 4-conductor.
There are adapters available that will split the signals.
