She emerges from the shadows yet again, Twofer Tuesday that dirty fucking temptress. Her tricks are legendary and her reputation is impressive. She can draw in even the best of us, however, this week I have resisted. Huzzah.
@Kyser_Soze@kushikun Indeed a majority of my Meh purchases are still in their box in the basement. At least they aren't taking up space in Carrollton anymore.
Does the plug have both stereo audio and microphone in one plug so you can plug it into your smart phone and make phone calls? Or, can you only listen to music on your phone?
I tried to look at all the plugs and it would require one with three black stripes (or 4 metal pieces). I couldn't see a plug like that in any of the photos.
@narfcake Thank you. Excellent picture so I bought a set. Why couldn't meh or any other sites have better photos of the plugs?!?!? It's all your fault.
Hey, @JasonToon, I used to use that same pair of cheap Sennheisers at work. They can't be beat for the price. But then I switched to the Audio Technica ATH-M50 and am happy with the change. At home I have a Sennheiser HD-580. Now that's a nice headphone.
So i bought these when they came around a while back. Meh for sure but they turn the cell phone conversation on my G3 from pretty bad to amazing. Maby i broke my phone somehow or maby the phone is just meh in itself.
I'm a complete sucker for headphone deals but I've got to stop myself. I now own 3 808s. If I buy these it won't be a habit anymore it will be a sickness
I would buy these but then I thought they might be made by TOCCs which I know they are not but just the thought made me scared enough not to buy. Also, no pagination.
@camille I haven't tried the 808's myself (the pair I bought were resold), but from the other threads, these two are pretty comparable in terms of sound quality, which is to say they're very good. A nod to the build quality and the mic on these, however.
Yo, just wanted to let you guys that have bought all these headphones from meh.com know that buying one or two pairs of really nice headphones will be much more gratifying than buying 10 throw away/around pairs. Not that these couldn't be decent for their purpose, but nicer (read: more expensive) headphones are not to be underestimated.
@Romulux depends on your use case. If the sound quality is basically clean and acceptable, cheap (semi-disposable) headphones can make a lot of sense. Example: kids who trash them, whether in the car or at home.
@RedOak Yeah, I agree. My comment was more to the people who are buying them for personal use. There are a lot of people that will just buy whatever from here because they can, and I just wanted to point out that there are better options than hoarding a pile of 8 dollar headphones and 3 dollar earbuds just because you can throw them away when they break. It could be more cost effective over time to just spend the money on something that will last, and you can get more enjoyment out of your media with good quality headphones.
@RedOak This is coming from someone who has been through the ringer with budget headphones/earbuds, and has seen the light. I just got my first pair of comfortable over-ear, open-backed headphones and it's totally changed the way I hear a lot of my music and games. If you're giving these things to your kids, that's cool. If you're using them for gaming or music, I'd say there are a lot of better options out there. head-fi.org is a good place to start for anyone who doesn't know much about headphones. You really don't have to spend a lot if you don't want to, it just takes some research to find what will fit your use case.
@Romulux I use headphones mostly to listen to podcasts and for conference calls. I have had $300 pairs that died after a year and have come to realize that for most of the stuff I need them for, even including casual music listening, the cheap ones are just fine, thank-you. On top of that, the audiophile market is so full of ridiculous claims and overpriced gear that it just feels nice to be able to totally ignore it.
@Romulux for take-care-of-them, serious listening, I agree. I have an old pair of Stax electrostatic headphones with their own proprietary amp box that were state of the art when I got them (back when kids didn't interfere with the toy budget). I also enjoy my aging Sony MDR-600s that fully immerse the ear.
The sad thing? This stuff matters less in this age of digitally compressed MP3 crap. Less than 40 (30?) year olds' ears are now conditioned to less dynamic music to the point where pre-MP3 uncompressed music sounds weird to them!
Wow, Stax is still around! And they call them "Ear Speakers". But I guarantee even in my pre-kids years I did not pay anywhere near the current asking price of $4,400, even adjusted for inflation! https://www.staxusa.com/stax-sr-009.html
@RedOak From someone who just turned 30, but hung out in Radio stations growing up (my mother was a radio personality/DJ,) I can tell the difference between a cheap cheap pair, a cheaply made but decent quality, and professional quality. I have to say that the weak point on all of them tends to be the cords, unless they fall and then it's plastic that breaks. No matter how good I try to keep them something always happens to them. I was given an old pair of professional quality headphones where the cord was going bad replaced the cord and it worked for a whole 4 years... before it fell off of the desk and a piece of plastic broke. I tried to fix them but didn't have the proper materials to fix the plastic (The things I could have done with a little sugru back in the day.) Anyway, I know the quality differences between different analog formats and the digital raw uncompressed files and the different qualities of digital compression on multiple formats , or worst yet, low quality mp3 then compressed again... OUCH! I still favor a decent sound from a cheaply made headset. Do I have a $100 pair for when I'm trying to play games and focus, yes... but the baby has made it so that I can't do much of that anymore.
So the doesn't play the ps4 audio? Wasn't really clear in the description if the limitation to chat audio was for all or just Xbox 360. Would probably be annoying if it blocked out so much of the game audio wearing over ear headphones.
@toneroni Agreed, can someone clear this up? Does the statement about the audio limitation pertain to e Xbox 360 only or does it pertain to ALL game systems???
@toneroni@Kerig3 they'll work with the PS4 and XBone just fine, you just have to select the option to have game audio go through your headphones on the PS4.
Sound quality on these seems good, and I've only had a few complaints on voice quality. But as far as fit, if you wear glasses, earrings, or other ear-related accessories, these supra-aural designs will press in a manner that may cause discomfort. Also, to prevent an occluded vocal self-perception, I find I must move one headphone off ear when using the mic.
These mention that they have a small mic for noise reduction.. Are they "noise reducing" headphones? (Like, do they do the thing that you want when you're on an airplane?) Or is that strictly for being able to isolate the sound of your voice out of the ambient noise?
@fry_dave These are not Active noise reduction headsets. Those have mics on the ear cup that inverts ambient sounds and sends it along with the audio to your ear. This in effect cancels any noise (sine-wave) that is now 180 out of phase. These are noise reducing only as they fit over the ear sort of like ear muffs. The microphone noise reduction refers to what ambient noise it picks up not to what noise gets through to you.
@fry_dave As I stated in my comment below, these block out quite a bit of ambient noise, which for my purposes, is a disadvantage. I suppose if I plug them into my Roku remote for TV it will be an advantage though.
@brainmist Absolutely correct. That's why its called noise. I was trying to keep it at a level where it could be better understood by someone who isn't an electronic engineer. AT1 USN
In for three times two for Tuesday for six. I use these at work (got 1 back in March) and they are far superior to the Avaya headsets we use. Now I have to get six more Avaya adapters.
I bought them last time and bought them again today. They help a lot, I was losing my ability to lip read the tv. and youtube these have solved that for me.
For what it's worth, I bought a pair (that is, one set, two ears) the last time this was offered. I needed a second pair so I didn't have to schlep my "office" pair to my home office every day. I haven't listened to music with them. For communicating via Lync, the sound quality is about the same as my Sennheisers. The one difference is that these don't let in ambient noise, so I can't hear myself talk. I usually wear them just covering 1/2 my ear. One other downside - no purple. meh.
@edheilhttp://ableplanet.com/technology/linx-audio/ has all the technical info you need. For the short version, it boosts the human speech frequencies. I heard it makes the vocals more pronounced in music. I haven't listened to them myself yet, but I bought some today.
Been looking for a pair of headphones to use at work. I've given up on earbuds ever since I won a pair of SMS Star Wars First Edition head phones in one of those arcade games that are usually rigged so that you always lose. Frankly I can't bear to wear ear buds any more as I find them just to be generally irritating. So I'm excited to have this be my first purchase at meh.
I just had to find my purchase from the first time this came around to see if it was worth buying again. Speaker Docks these are not. They are a bit cheaper and have pretty good quality for the price. If I had to put a price tag to the performance that I feel they have would be about $60 quality headphones. Not the best but not the walmart bargain bin, Somewhere in between.
Did I buy? Being that it’s May 5, no. If it were mid to late October I’d probably pick up 2 sets. However I don’t want to store the items for the months till the holiday season. They would make pretty good stocking stuffers yet probably wouldn’t fit in the stocking.
One other thing, back to the quality. I love that the cable is removable. It shifts my weak point away from the cable its self, and now off to the connector. I’d love if the microphone was just an adapter instead of having a built in cable. On the positive side the microphone with a cable gives you 100% more cables than if it were an adapter and leaves another point to break out of the product. All in all I think it’s good to have one, unless you have a better quality headset.
Although I have not tried the microphone part, the headphone part sounds... fine. It does not have the bass of the 808 headphones Meh sold before. Maybe they are tuned more for midrange, e.g., voices, rather than booty-licious rump-shakin' beats.
Just reviewing old products I still have and love. Still sound great. The cords have worn but, there were plenty to go through (flat phone aux cable was my fav). For ‘on ear’ headphones they never made my ears sore as I later found out is rare.

I was expecting something for Cinco de Mayo
can never remember, when is cinco de mayo again?
@saodell September 16th
@somf69
So much for my theory that a Fuku was being sold today. I guess there isn't a secret message in this photo:
@bruceoite its too early for a fuko/u usually its every two months(april fools day was 3 mts though) so smart money is on late may early june or Chrismas in July
@communist - meh's birthday is in July.
@bruceoite Could be May 9th, September 5th, or September 9th too if you want to look that far in to it.
@Romulux They really look like 5's to me
@bruceoite I think he is reading way into the "4 more"
Something about turning 50 and not feeling super confident that buying two of anything is a good idea anymore.
@saodell My brain is deteriorating, and I can never remember where I put things. It's helpful to have 2, so I can lose it twice.
Do people really sleep with earbuds in?
@russellwilde I do with very low volume white noise or boring lectures.
@russellwilde I use these.... http://www.sleepphones.com/
She emerges from the shadows yet again, Twofer Tuesday that dirty fucking temptress. Her tricks are legendary and her reputation is impressive. She can draw in even the best of us, however, this week I have resisted. Huzzah.
@studerc You still have 23.83 more hours to resist. Unless they sell out. Then it's less.
@studerc Holy shit, he's alive. Hope you're feeling better!
I love these headphones! Get some before they sell out!
@kushikun I would but I haven't opened all of the others I've purchased from meh.
@Kyser_Soze @kushikun Indeed a majority of my Meh purchases are still in their box in the basement. At least they aren't taking up space in Carrollton anymore.
No complaints with this headset, but I don't need two more of 'em
back to the 90's ..yahoo chat rooms

I tried to look at all the plugs and it would require one with three black stripes (or 4 metal pieces). I couldn't see a plug like that in any of the photos.
@cengland0 Yes it does. I'd take a pic of mine, but it's in a different room ... and I'm not getting up. BLEAT!
@narfcake Thanks for answering so quickly. I still have doubts because all websites that show photos of this headset only shows a 3 conductor plug.
@cengland0 I ordered the last one, and it came with a couple adapters for different devices (look at the pictures).
@cengland0
@narfcake Thank you. Excellent picture so I bought a set. Why couldn't meh or any other sites have better photos of the plugs?!?!? It's all your fault.
@cengland0 @narfcake But, he solved the problem too right? Good goat...
@mehdaf Yes and I'm very thankful.
@cengland0 You're welcome. Another thanks to @JonT too for being a good sport and getting me #4 of 3 in the contest last time.
(I did buy these today too, BTW.)
"Tap twice, tap three times..." Great, I need to learn Morse Code to use these. Meh.
@PocketBrain
Okay, I'm confused... The specs say these are the TL210M. The price comparison link goes to the TL210BMM-U, for $55.99.
I'm seeing the TL210M for $29, across the board, at Amazon.
I know that either way, meh's price is a good deal, but There is a large difference between a $40 and $100 savings.
@Thumperchick Good Catch! these are the cheaper versions since they dont come with the 2x usb adapter...You might want to change comparisons meh staff
@tommynecktie Is the only different the adaptor? Or are the drivers worse/cheaper also?
3 days in a row you've gotten me, Meh. 4 of the last 5 deals I've been hooked and every time for more than one. Nice job!
Hey, @JasonToon, I used to use that same pair of cheap Sennheisers at work. They can't be beat for the price. But then I switched to the Audio Technica ATH-M50 and am happy with the change. At home I have a Sennheiser HD-580. Now that's a nice headphone.

$24.99 for 1 pair on Groupon:

Ok I swore I would never buy headphones from meh again, but here I am with 2 on the way... will I ever learn? Will I be pleasantly surprised?

@brainmist Yep - I offset one ear cup while on conference calks, too. The lack of background room noise is what got to me.
Great, more garbage.

@Mehrocco_Mole Active noise cancelation is not limited to sine wave (single frequency) sound. It cancels more complex waveforms.

@DeuceSevin I had the same trouble with not hearing myself talk, but if you turn the volume wheel on the control up to max, you can hear yourself.
Can anybody speak to this "LINX Audio" thing and what it does to music, good or bad? I use headphones for music, period, not phone calls or anything.
@edheil http://ableplanet.com/technology/linx-audio/ has all the technical info you need. For the short version, it boosts the human speech frequencies. I heard it makes the vocals more pronounced in music. I haven't listened to them myself yet, but I bought some today.
Sweet. This is awesome and super timely for me.
Anyone know the length of the cord? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere?
@wootcat About thiiiis long.
@wootcat Sorry, couldn't resist. The non-mic cord is 6' 4.5" tip to tip. The mic cord is 16" shorter. The two adapters are about 4".
Been looking for a pair of headphones to use at work.
