11Welcome to the weekend everyone. I am so excited to have a few free days, knowing my coming work week is shortened! It makes me so happy I want to give y’all a hug!! Good thing the 29th is Hug Holiday Day 
Hug Holiday Day encourages us to give hugs to those who need them. On this day, people go out and give hugs at senior citizen centers, hospitals, and other places. The focus is upon elderly, sick and invalid, lonely people and anyone who needs the warmth, cheer, and love that a hug provides

Sometimes I want to dress up in my grim reaper costume and carry a free hugs sign. I don’t think I could do it without a mask.
Oddly enough, I hate when customers hug me at work. I really only reserve hugs for my family, a few close friends, or my partner.
@RiotDemon Every once in a while a patient asks if they can give me a hug. I’m glad to know I could affect their life in such a positive way that they want to reciprocate that way.

Professionally I do not want to be hugged. Personally, always a big Italian hug (it includes two pats on the back)
That said, years ago I was working in Mexico and my co workers would hug me EVERY morning and EVERY evening. At first I was like WTF this is crazy, wildly inappropriate, uncomfortable, etc. When I came back to the US office though I was kinda sad, I missed my daily hugs.
@cinoclav I totally get that. There’s been a few times I’m just ridiculously uncomfortable with the person and their hugs are not welcome. Especially when they accompany them with a kiss on the cheek without asking.
@tinamarie1974 years ago I used to greet all my male friends with hugs. I didn’t really hug women though. Just felt awkward to me.
I’d love to do the free hug thing, but I’m painfully shy at times. I think I’d be disheartened if I didn’t get any people that wanted hugs. At least when I’m dressed in costume, I don’t feel the same way. I enjoy the attention. During Halloween I pose with a lot of people for photos.
@RiotDemon Same here. We get guests who like to give hugs and I’ve got a very huggy co-worker. Strangely, I love hugging my family but not anyone else although I’ve got no problem giving affection. Hell, I would be more comfortable holding a person’s hand than hugging them.

When my wife met my French family for the first time she hugged them and they were all … Wow, that’s weird. But now, when we see each other we exchange hugs all around… and they will often initiate the hug themselves.

@cinoclav @RiotDemon Agree with patient hugs- as long as the vibe is right- I have had a few times when it wasn’t, and listening to my instincts by gracefully declining saved me from possible trouble which co-workers fell into despite my heads-up that the patient might be looking to claim/file that inappropriate or unprofessional behavior occurred.
Otherwise, I just make sure it’s the patient’s idea, and not mine- which is easy because SWMBO is the one that made me a hugger, so hugs are always available at home.

While I may have once had a more than reasonably decent corpus, my focus is no longer really very much on remaining [regaining] an aesthetically pleasing form- I’ve been more trying to retain function than form…
