@GeckoD don’t do it! 400 SQUARE feet? We live in 3 dimensions and once you figure in ceiling height a 10 x 10 room is more like 1,000 cubic feet. It always bugs me they give CADR in cubic measure and coverage in square measure - rant over
@Kyeh@PooltoyWolf
Still not a patch on distilled if you’re looking for “just fecking water and nothing else”. And distilled is cheaper, and doesn’t involve ocean shipping over huge distances. OTGH, Fiji’s economy is not exactly overrun with opportunities for the Fijians to find decent-paying work, which the Fiji Water people provide. And now that a 15-cents-per-liter tariff is being collected for the exported product, the nation is getting something back. Perhaps, in time, that money might be used to provide all Fijians with water as clean as the exported product. In the seven years after the tax was instituted, the percentage of Fijians without access to clean water dropped from 53% to 12%. Whether that reflects a concerted effort to use the water tax for water is not something I have been able to discover. It seems unlikely.
Here endeth today’s far more extensive than warranted near-rant about the subject of an offhandedly-made observation of a truly trivial and light-hearted nature. You are fully entitled to say “Oh, just be that way, then.” Or whatever. Be glad you don’t have ADHD, if appropriate.
@werehatrack
My resolve is weakened because I have a room smaller than 400 sf without a filter right now. (And I like the colors.) Have Honeywell HEPA units now for other rooms and get filters on ebay.
I need to know more about the filters. Does this use “standard” filters that I can find easily? How often do they need to be replaced and how much are they?
@Badpookey
So, not “standard”, but currently available from aftermarket suppliers. The question that can’t be answered is how long will the blower remain functional, and will the filters go out of availability first? FWIW, this one’s cheap enough to make it a fair gamble, as long as you’re willing to pick up a couple of years’ worth of spare filters up front, and replenish to maintain an extended operation-supporting backstock. OTOH, it’s not exactly a high-capacity unit. One decent-sized bedroom is about all it will handle.
The thing is… HEPA filters are a consumable item. This thing will require replacement filters, and will become useless if you can’t get them. They also aren’t standardized: you need the one made for your unit. So how long will you be able to get filters for this no-name unit? Unless you want to trade six month’s clean air (assuming the filter really is HEPA as advertised) for unnecessary e-waste, you’re better off buying a Honeywell—those filters will be around forever.
Rigid’s HEPA filter is $20 and washable. Not sure why these room air filters don’t use the same tech; oh right, they want to scalp their customers when they buy replacement filters.
Was excited to use Miko. They warned us and said the filters will go out of availability. So being pro active, I went to another shopping web site found them and bought some. I prob changed filters 3 times. When they said it was loud, they were not kidding. When they said replacement filters were expensive, they were not kidding. When they said “all of a sudden it quit working”, THEY WERE NOT KIDDING. Mine actually got hot. The fact that not hearing the dang thing was the reason it caught my attention. It did filter the air, I was pleasantly surprised. I might have gotten a year and half out of it. So angrily unplugged it and threw it away.
Boooooo I saaaaaaay. Just keep scrolling past this one.

One side of this thing kinda sucks.
@werehatrack I hear the other side blows.
@werehatrack Actually it has 360 degree suction technology, so it pretty much sucks all around.
I like my essential oils LOUD!

This writeup was actually a compelling argument to buy the product they’re pushing today.
I’m not going to, but I almost thought twice about it.

Squirrel!
@PooltoyWolf @werehatrack
I never buy bottled water! I do like the flavored seltzers like LaCroix and Polar, but I think plain bottled water is a scam.
Item Dimensions LxWxH 11.2 x 8.5 x 8.5 inches
Item Weight 2.95 Kilograms
@Vertabrae
Too small to do very much, then.

Miko Hepa? Is that the new goalie for Finland’s hockey team?
It purifies 400 sq ft., that’s simply plane.
My feet aren’t square though…Would make buying shoes less of a pain…

@Badpookey OK, for those interested, the cheapies go for about $15 each, they are not washable, need to be replaced about 4 times a year but YMMV.

@macwhiz
Even Holmes would be a more reasonable choice for the long term. I have no problems getting filters for my ten-year-old Holmes.
Mooka knockoff?
@alinko
Apparently, given the applicability shown for the aftermarket filters.

Bought two of them because I got tired of looking at my furnace-filter-duct-taped-to-a-box-fan purifier, but one of the two won’t even power on
@blueyed510 it shows there’s a 1 Year Miko warranty after Product Registration.
If you have issues going through Miko, make sure to contact Support so they can assist where needed.
