@PastaDrop@Enigma@RiotDemon Razer stuff is generally sucky, so don’t feel bad about it. “Gaming gear” that sells itself via shiny lights and sponsored Twitch streamers. I play games, and don’t own a single Razer product; they’re all quite literally engineered to fail within six months.
@Enigma@PastaDrop@RiotDemon Even for a dollar it might be a bad idea, because using a product that frustrates you on a continuous basis is not worth it even if it’s free. I’ve learned that it’s better to save up and wait for a sale on something high-end with good reviews, than to routinely spend small bucks on trash products that are uncomfortable to use and need to be replaced all the time. I apply that logic to shoes, personal electronics like cell phones, PC peripherals, and other items that get daily interaction.
I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to buy a headset for a buck, but I personally still wouldn’t use it, and would donate it/give it to someone who isn’t able to buy anything at all.
@PastaDrop@RiotDemon@ShotgunX I hear you, the frustration would irritate me to much. I wanted to buy for a young nephew who really doesn’t know what it’s like to get angry about something that doesn’t work.
@Enigma@ShotgunX you guys must be really picky to not even try the $1 headset that gets some decent reviews. If you looked at it, it works great on the Macs at meh, Xbox 360s, and computers as long as their USB ports are shielded. The biggest complaint was that it makes some noise when it’s silent if the ports aren’t shielded. For a dollar, I do not care. Even if I needed to save up for something more expensive eventually, it’s a dollar. A DOLLAR.
@Enigma@RiotDemon Like I said, I know the draw of being able to scoop up a good deal. I wouldn’t be here otherwise. That said, if I purchased that headset (and I might have, if there was stock), I would’ve maybe tried it once (if at all), and just kept it as a reserve option in case my main ones break. And then if I found someone who needed one, I’d just give it to them.
I also have reservations about buying refurbished headsets. Lots of stories out there about them not having been cleaned properly, and getting products stuffed with grime and hair. It’s a worthwhile gamble to try to get something that was an open-box return, though.

I use that philosophy with furniture too. I used cardboard boxes as a dresser when I was first out on my own for nearly two years until I could afford the very nice antique dresser I wanted. While there is short term inconvenience, putting the money I would have wasted on a junky one towards the nice one helped me get the nice one faster.
@Kidsandliz@RiotDemon yup, or garage sales. I found a beautiful antique dresser with mirror (very minor damage) curbside in my subdivision after a subdivision wide garage sale. They were just throwing it away because it didn’t sell. I snagged it and have it in one of my basement bedrooms to store linnens.
@RiotDemon At the time I lived in a very small college town so there was lots of competition for curbside. Did get a rocker that way though. Even managed to sell it later when I bought one I really liked.
@GLaDOS Correct. There is only buy or not buy. I think it has to do with the (amicable) parting of ways with Steve Harvey. Maybe he owned or controlled publication rights to the comments (in case people said untrue things about him) since at the time, the site was exclusive to his show.
You can still kvetch about it on the meh topic boards.
If the daily deal has to be disabled for y’all to take a day off … maybe you’re doing something very very wrong? Like hiring squirrels with no prior experience as your web devs, for example. Seriously though, do you guys not take weekends off? Vacations??
@Telanis oh for ffs of course they do. It didn’t have to be disabled. Maybe they just chose to take a break. No one needs to be around on a weekend for much more serious things than meh other than a cycle monitor to get an alert and call the on call . I’m sure that’s SOP. Maybe they wanted give everyone a break.
