Online shopping was invented and pioneered in in what year ?
by Michael Aldrich in the United Kingdom. He connected a modified domestic television via a telephone line to a real-time multi-user transaction processing computer
@CaptAmehrican@jrwofuga I looked it up, and while “pioneered” is a bit of a stretch as it was more of a proof of concept it was much earlier than I would of thought.
I think eBay and other breakfast octopus sites were more the “pioneers” of online shopping.
Earlier. Online shopping was possible to a some degree with my local newspaper service, which operated a text bbs over the slowest of modems far earlier.
Gosh. Does this question include arpanet? Email shopping? The question merely says “online”, so I suppose arpanet, email, and the bbs would be included.
@jrwofuga A little bit of trivia, there were 14 original colonies. People keep forgetting about Nova Scotia because when we declared our independence, they didn’t want to join and actually fought against the other colonies and for the British.
@cengland0@jrwofuga And why the Catholic French that settled in Nova Scotia (in the Acadia region) became refugees when the British took over and were brutally kicked out (hunted down and forcibly “relocated” to parts unknown - sound familiar?) to flee South to settle in what was still a French colony, Louisiana, which was also Catholic-friendly. Britain was Protestant, and so they persecuted those of a different religion, directing their xenophobia at the French Catholics because they apoke a different language, had different customs, and practiced a different religion that prayed to the same god, just differently. At least they didn’t have different colored skin to make it easier for the government to oppress them and forcibly deport them at gunpoint, families and all with nothing but the clothes they wore.
They came from Acadia in caravans, and called Acadians in English, and L’Acadienne in French, which we know today as the Cajuns.
Those who do not learn the lessons of history are forever condemned to repeat its mistakes.
@cengland0 There was a push for Nova Scotia to join in the rebellion against the British, but Washington was still nervous of the Quebec invasion. Interesting though.
You mean edible lizard with wings. Birds come from reptiles. Mammals didn’t branch off until after birds were established. Did nobody learn anything from the Jurassic Park documentary?
@jrwofuga@mike808@tinamarie1974 well…no…i learned nothing as I didn’t watch it…i stand by what I said though…pigeons=rats w/ wings much like squirrels=rats w/ better accessories
@jrwofuga Um, I think that was Jefferson. He went to France to negotiate the Louisiana purchase. He was given authorization for a certain dollar amount from congress but ended up paying lots more. Now the big question I don’t know for sure without looking up is if he was President at the time or working for one of the Presidents.
@cinoclav@cengland0@mml666 The correct answer is Teddy Roosevelt’s visit to Panama. Others had been out of the country, but he was the first to go while in office.
@jrwofuga Yay! I think I impressed myself on this one. Local morning radio show does a ‘Stupid question’ contest every day. Many are difficult, some truly live up to the contest name. First caller wins whatever the prize is during that week. I’ve won a few times, with prizes ranging from the Jurassic World DVD to MMA tickets in Atlantic City. I’m pretty sure that’s where I heard this question before.
Where is the meh August 2019 scapegoat?
@nolrak bleat bleat.
What meh icons name is from Old Norse word meaning “to work”?
@CaptAmehrican What is this thing “work” to which you refer?
@CaptAmehrican If it’s Norse, I’m assuming LaVikinga.
@CaptAmehrican Irk.
@jrwofuga congratulations. You are correct. Irk is from Irksome which is from old norse meaning work. Work is certainly Irksome
@CaptAmehrican @jrwofuga that rules

@CaptAmehrican So using of Google to write the question appears to be allowed?
@CaptAmehrican errrr… . i’ll guess 1994

Who was the last person to sign Dwight’s letter of regret on The Office?
@medz ugh. . Jim. no idea.
@jrwofuga @medz Wasn’t it Phyllis as mentioned right here on meh yesterday?
@therealjrn You are correct. Your familiarity of The Office and/or meh is quite impressive.
OF the 13 original colonies, which was the last to officially join the US as a state?
@jrwofuga That would not be the Conch Republic
@jrwofuga I would think the furthest one, so Georgia?
Edit: Reread the question. I was thinking the last to join as a colony. Hmm… dwelling on it.
@cinoclav No, the last to join the Union. Post 1776
@jrwofuga of the original 13 I think the last was Rhode Island.
@CaptAmehrican Ding ding. Correct
@CaptAmehrican @jrwofuga Also, mentioned recently in the Area Code topic.
Hawaii duh lol bring the heat I’m ready for a challenge

What predator has been spotted multiple times outside the meh CEO’s house?
@medz a goat?
@CaptAmehrican NO!
@CaptAmehrican @medz what is a scapegoat? @nolrak, any idea??
@nolrak is the one sending 30-50 feral hogs into your bed at night.
@medz Is the answer 30-50 feral hogs?
@medz @therealjrn I don’t know, but I would much rather have someone else in my bed than 30-50 feral hogs!
@therealjrn @tinamarie1974 No. Not a goat or hog of any sort. I’m not even sure those are even predators…
@medz Coyote?
@medz I remember!
/giphy bobcat
@medz Omg, I totally remembered the video but I forgot all about the picture I made on the thread. Lol

Traditionally, if measured in February of each year, what species of bird is the most populous bird species on Earth?
@jrwofuga pidgeon?
@jrwofuga Chickens?
@tinamarie1974 a popular guess
@cinoclav correct. . . usually 50 billion of them on earth at any given time. It’s one of my favorite trivia questions.
@jrwofuga 49,999,999,999 after my lunch.
@cinoclav @jrwofuga African or European?
@cinoclav @jrwofuga @mml666 gah! …the old man from scene 24…keeper of the bridge of death…cast into the gorge!
/image into the gorge
/giphy just answer the questions
/youtube “stop, who would cross?”
@jrwofuga @tinamarie1974 you mean a rat w/ wings
@amehzinggrace @tinamarie1974 I should clarify the answer was CHICKEN.
@jrwofuga @tinamarie1974 Edible rat w/wings?
@amehzinggrace @jrwofuga @tinamarie1974 I would have thought turkeys - 10 months before thanksgiving.
@amehzinggrace @jrwofuga @stolicat Be@tinamarie1974 Because he specified February, I was thinking love birds, lame yes I know.
@amehzinggrace @jrwofuga @tinamarie1974
You mean edible lizard with wings. Birds come from reptiles. Mammals didn’t branch off until after birds were established. Did nobody learn anything from the Jurassic Park documentary?
@mike808 not to mention we still have bird brained humans in existence…
@jrwofuga @mike808 @tinamarie1974 well…no…i learned nothing as I didn’t watch it…i stand by what I said though…pigeons=rats w/ wings much like squirrels=rats w/ better accessories
The ones that crap on my car.
Who was the first president to travel outside of the United States during his presidency?
@jrwofuga I don’t know why I think I know this one. Pretty sure I’ve heard it before.
/image teddy bear
@jrwofuga Um, I think that was Jefferson. He went to France to negotiate the Louisiana purchase. He was given authorization for a certain dollar amount from congress but ended up paying lots more. Now the big question I don’t know for sure without looking up is if he was President at the time or working for one of the Presidents.
@jrwofuga Is dying included in “outside the United States”?
@cinoclav @cengland0 @mml666 The correct answer is Teddy Roosevelt’s visit to Panama. Others had been out of the country, but he was the first to go while in office.
@mml666 I’m interested in what the angle is here.
@jrwofuga William Harrison died in office before Roosevelt was even born.
So, if dying is considered leaving the USA, he was the first.
@jrwofuga Yay! I think I impressed myself on this one. Local morning radio show does a ‘Stupid question’ contest every day. Many are difficult, some truly live up to the contest name. Which state joined the Union first, South or North Dakota? (This is a trick question…if you know the answer you should be shamefacedly proud.)
@UncleVinny did they join as one entity, and then break into pieces later or something?
@curtise I wish! But no.
@curtise @UncleVinny so, neither??
@curtise @llangley nobody knows, because at the ceremony nobody made a note of which papers were signed first!
I’m probably wrong but I thought they joined at the same time. If that’s correct you can thank Deadwood the movie( I think) for me having any idea,
In Texas, how many syllables does the word “eggs” have?
@mike808
Varies, depending on how badly the speaker wants to mess with the listening persons.
