I’d love to see (DECENT) Meh face masks… They don’t have to be n95, but something better than the 1 Ply or the 2 ply that I’ve seen… Something where our Face could look like IRK, or Glen… or maybe even this
Could they print them and ship them to us before people stop wearing them?
Around here I’m already seeing fewer and fewer people wearing them (and we’re getting more and more new cases each day… People are just returning to normal anyway).
@OnionSoup yeah it’s scary… we had 63 new cases over the past week… after there being 0 new ones for days… People aren’t caring, which scares the crap out of me… (high risk here) I’ll likely be wearing masks for a few years… I’ll be that crazy guy that wears a mask.
@OnionSoup AFAIK no one has said it’s ok to stop wearing masks, we’ve just got a bunch of adults with the maturity of a toddler who “don’t want to wear them”
What are the pros and cons, whether they work or not?
Pro: if they work, maybe they keep you or someone else from getting sick or even dying.
Con: minor irritation to wear, and in some areas are seen as a liberal thing?
@OnionSoup@sohmageek me too. I actually have heard folks making fun of me at the store because I wear a mask. Of course they make assumptions about my intelligence and political affiliations as well.
I generally roll my eyes and walk away thinking about the Darwin Awards and survival of the fittest lol
@OnionSoup@sohmageek@tinamarie1974 the problem is that the masks do more to protect those around the wearer than the wearer. Someone with a mask on coughs or something, it’s mostly contained. Someone without one coughs, it’s everywhere.
Somewhere I saw a comic with the comparison to wearing/not wearing pants. Both people not wearing pants, the other pees on you, you got peed on. You wear pants, you still get wet. Both wear pants, only the one peeing gets wet.
To protect yourself more, you need at least a face shield or goggles to go with it, and proper sanitation methods to clean up when you take them off. Gloves do little, unless you are changing them before you can transfer anything to stuff you might touch later.
Someone posted on twitter a nice video stating that wearing a mask is a simple thing one can do to be kind to others. You make it easier for others, maybe elderly or those with immunity issues to go letting them feel a little safer.
Is it annoying to wear, OMG YES!! But I feel it is what I should do to be respectful of others. It also has some level of filtration to protect me from others.
@OnionSoup@sohmageek@tinamarie1974 Yeah, I’m wearing them daily for work. They are required for everyone out in the public or working with others here, but I’m still surprised how many people I see on a daily basis who do things like wear it below their nose, pull it down to talk, or just go around once in a store with it off their face entirely. It’s the whole maturity of a toddler thing.
@kevinrs@sohmageek@tinamarie1974 I wear mine in the office in the halls until I get to my personal office. My door closes and stays shut all day and I take my mask off in my own little space. If I get up for bathroom or to refill the kettle, mask goes back on.
I think it’s inevitable most people will catch the virus eventually. But wearing masks slows down the transmission and gives the high risk people a better chance of lasting until a vaccine comes along… Plus signs it’s evolving slowly to become less deadly… Let it mutate down before the at risk get it. (New viruses usually become less powerful over time because not harming the host means they have more chance of spreading)
I’ve heard several people say “I’m not worried about the virus, not much worse than the flu”… And yeah, for them that might be true, but if they get sick they pass it to others who might be higher risk.
I hate how it’s become about politics or pride. Wear it for other people, not yourself, not for politics
@OnionSoup@sohmageek
I hate to tell you this but a mask isn’t gonna stop you from getting it. An average adult touches their face 23 times every hour and if you’ve been out in public touching everything else and then touch your eyes, that mask helped you a lot. You touch your eyes, mouth and ears, it’s just like passing along pink eye, flu or the common cold. That’s why they say social distancing and good hygiene (hand washing) are the best defense. A mask is just to make you feel comfortable and bc a lot of people are to stupid to sneeze or cough into their elbow and not their hands. And yes I wear my mask out in public, I’m not an asshole.
@sohmageek@Star2236 as said above. The mask isn’t really to protect you. It’s to protect other people if you have it but are asymptomatic.
It may only lower your chance of getting it a small amount… But it lowers the chance of you spreading it if you’re asymptomatic a lot.
Some people will wear a mask and it will prevent them otherwise getting the disease.
Others will wear a mask and will still get the disease. As long as it slows the spread until we can better fight it, the better it will be for my parent’s generation and other at risk people it is worth society wearing a mask.
If you had to play Russian roulette with a gun with two bullets loaded… Or with a gun with one bullet loaded, most people would pick the one bullet option. You could get the bullet either way, but better to lower your chances.
If you’re the type to touch your face a lot, wear a face shield instead of a face mask. Studies show they’re almost as effective as face masks… But the benefit is, you can’t accidentally touch your face.
I hate how it’s become about politics or pride. Wear it for other people, not yourself, not for politics
I hate this too, but somehow it’s also fitting. I’m in a Facebook group for my county. Pretty much every time I see someone bitching about wearing a mask and claiming that they’re done with them, I check their page. I’d say 99% of them are Trumpers. Of course they usually go on to complain about our Governor (Wolf), a Dem. This is a county literally right next to Philadelphia where most of these people pride themselves on basically being white trash. Fortunately there’s enough brains left (mostly in my area) that have turned the county blue.
@cinoclav@OnionSoup@sohmageek but EVERYTHING is not politically motivated, however society (in general) is moving in this direction. I just find it so exhausting.
Unfortunately our governor just announced fall k-12 will happen in person. Teachers and staff must wear masks. Kids masks are optional. Not impressed. Make the kids wear masks.
@sohmageek Someone on Facebook said this is how masks in school might look:
Please don’t snap Billy’s mask in his face.
Your mask is not a necklace, bracelet, or any other form of jewelry.
You should not be using your mask as a slingshot. Please put it back on your face.
Please do not chew on your mask.
Your mask should be on your face, not on the back of your head
I’m sorry your mask is wet, but that’s what happens when you lick the inside of it.
I’m sorry you sneezed. Here’s a tissue. Wipe out the snot as well as you can.
No, you may not blow your nose in your mask.
Why is your mask soaking wet? You just came back from the bathroom?
And you put it back on your face after you dropped it?
I’m sorry you broke the elastic on your mask by seeing how far the band would stretch. Now you’ll have to hold the mask on your face … or use this duct tape.
Please take the mask off your eyes and watch where you’re walking. I don’t care if you have X-ray vision.
Please take the mask off of your pencil and stop twirling it.
I know the mask fits over your pants like a knee pad, but please take it off of your leg and put it on your face.
What do you mean you tried to eat your lunch through your mask?
Please don’t share your mask or trade masks. I don’t care if you like Ingrid’s mask better than yours.
I’m sorry, but your mask is not school appropriate.
We’re not comparing our masks to other kids’ masks… everyone’s mask is unique and special.
No, you may not decorate your mask instead of doing your work. I don’t care if you have a Sharpie.
You’re not a pirate, please take your mask off your eye.
Try to get the gum off as much as you can.
Please don’t use your mask to pick your nose.
I’m sorry you tripped, but that’s what happens when you put your feet inside the elastic of your mask.
No, your mask doesn’t make it hard to get your work done.
Your Mom will need to get you a new mask since you chewed a hole in that one.
Why is there a shoe print on your mask?
No, you cannot eat the snow through your mask.
I don’t care if you were in art class and being creative; we do not decorate our masks.
We do not beam other kids in the face with balls. No, their masks don’t make it not hurt.
Please don’t plug your nose holes with your mask.
Who’s making that noise?
I’m sorry your ponytail is stuck, that’s what happens when you see how many times you can wrap it around your mask.
I’m sorry to tell you, but your child thought her mask made her a superhero. She tried to fly off the jungle gym at recess …
I’m sorry your breath stinks in your mask, maybe we should all try to brush better.
Please take those cookies out of your mask. No, you are not a chipmunk.
@gkoelln7 so you send the kids home and the parents deal with it. They will stop real quick… trust me. I’d be pissed… but my son’s preschool is doing it and they are pretty successful at it.
If preschoolers can do it… grown ass men can and teens can too.
So we can frighten anyone we come in contact with? I’m in.
I’d buy that for a dollar
@rjblackerby
@bmf @rjblackerby Now I want to play Smash TV!!
You will see facemasks on Meh in 2 years once a horde of them is discovered in a warehouse and have no value due to the pandemic being over.
@Collin1000 So you think the pandemic will be over that soon?
/giphy pandemic

I use my Mehndana on a daily basis. I should add a third layer.
Could they print them and ship them to us before people stop wearing them?

My dad Is very high risk and he’s the reason I always wear a mask. I’m always at his house helping him out.

@sohmageek yeah. Our schools are going to be open too. Virus or not.
Honestly, I’m of two minds here. I’ve witnessed first hand how the remote schooling is a waste of time and achieved nothing…
…But yeah. No escaping virus spreading like crazy if schools are open… Masks or not.
