The PO used to have more than one shape of large flat rate box. The squarish one is more common. They also used to have a longer flatter one, same price to ship. These were harder to find - only the larger PO’s seem to have them. I bet those are still out there somewhere.

@therealjrn Yes, I think we are test subjects for the kiosks, but it spits out postage whenever I give it money, so it is all good. My poor boss struggles with the machine, and I just go over and do a bit of magic and her labels/postage appear I learned interesting methodology for addressing packages while sending out Mehxchange packages!

How much has everyone spent on shipping? I did the calculators online, and most of them say it would be around $30. I’m seriously thinking about the contents of my box and wondering if it’s worth it. It might be too meh. I don’t know too much about my recipient. They might end up just throwing it all in the trash for all I know.
@RiotDemon I doubt anything would be thrown out RD. I think most of us do the box exchanges and besides, there’s another November exchange coming up over on Woot facilitated by the Green Godmother. So folks would want valuable merch to send on for that.

Darn it, I swore that I would have had this box packed and shipped out WELL in advance, but the truth is I’ve almost never delivered anything in my entire life early. I live by deadlines and do best under pressure, and promise I will have the box shipped out on the 25th or the day before. I’m sure some of the items within will be worthy of the extra few day wait, but I hope some items are absolutely NOT worth it, lol.
To my recipient, it looks like I was able to put together a sufficient box for you. It’s not what I’d like to send, but it’s what I can. The main project that I was working on for you failed. The product that I found to do the thing with was defective and didn’t have the dohickey to do the dobobble with, therefore it was trashed.

I re-used a pair of 14x10x10 boxes that came from Meh.com so as to satisfy the “something from Meh requirement” regardless of what I put in them.
According to the USPS web site, it is not possible to ship a package of this size to 21701 from 11367 (regardless of its weight), so I said fuck USPS and used UPS instead. This saved me money on both packages and turned out to be a very pleasant experience, since the UPS dude liked my woot shirt and we got into an interesting conversation about mathematics, how frakking crazy the 3rd party candidates are this time around, and several other topics.
I figured it might seem (or be?) creepy if I hunted down email addresses for my recipients and emailed them directly, so I sent the tracking info to @Yoda_Daenerys who may or may not forward said info on to my recipients.
I shipped 3 small size moving boxes today. Sadly, postage has gone way up, and it cost me way more than I thought it would to send them. However, they are all on their way, and I’m officially broke with the most expensive box being $39.99 to ship! Yikes! The closest one has a delivery date of 10/26 (woah, one day!), the next is 10/31 and the last is 11/1. Enjoy you mediocre, yet heavy boxes.
@sammydog01 yes, lesson learned. Next time will be smaller boxes…or priority flat rate. Never again, sadly I cannot afford the rates as they keep going up!
@savvysapphire I used the link from this thread, if you have a PayPal account it’s pretty good. Discount USPS parcel select turned out to be the best this go round. What I like is that you can put in your package information once and quickly switch usps and ups services to compare rates and they give you a little bit of a discount. Then I check fedex to compare just in case they give a better rate.
I’m getting worried. My package has been in transit to the sorting place for a couple of days now. I know I paid the cheapest way, but this doesn’t bode well.
@f00l the problem is, it left my local hub, supposedly, on the way to the Orlando hub. That’s about 1.5 hours away. It’s been traveling for 4.5 days now.
Nothing like waiting until the last minute to ship, but three reused Meh cardboard boxes, packed with very similar Mehish items readied and shipped to three very Mehish people.
My package I sent seems to still be stuck somewhere between Jacksonville and where it’s supposed to be delivered, even though it showed scheduled delivery for today. Sent USPS Priority mail.
Weird. Perhaps it’ll get there today without updating as they sometimes do, or perhaps it’ll make it there a day late, tomorrow.
According to the lady at the post office, when shipping ground, they don’t update the tracking in between when you ship and when it arrives. Does anyone else have experience with that?
The only reason I have some doubts is the tracking does show when they accepted it, and another hit when it left for the sorting destination.
It’s original arrival date is tomorrow. I’m trying not to get upset until after then…

Not only did I have a wonderful time seeing what you put in and reading all your notes but my granddaughter also had a wonderful time. She thought every thing was for her. Anything that was stuffed disappointed amidst a torrent of jibber jabber that was the cutest thing ever. She was fascinated with my unending box. I’d pick something up and she’s say, what’s that and I’d have to explain. She truly thought that box was for her. If we do this again I will definitely be using your box as an example of the right way to do an exchange box. Dear recipient,
I fully intended to have your box shipped out this past weekend, but have failed. I promise to actually pack it, take it with me and get it out tomorrow. The good news is you don’t live super far from me so you should get it quickly.

I left it with some niceish government employees today. Over 6 hours ahead of deadline, too! You should have it soon.
When I get home I get to open the one on my table!
I re-used a pair of 14x10x10 boxes that came from Meh.com so as to satisfy the “something from Meh requirement” regardless of what I put in them.
According to the USPS web site, it is not possible to ship a package of this size to 21701 from 11367 (regardless of its weight), so I said fuck USPS and used UPS instead. This saved me money on both packages and turned out to be a very pleasant experience, since the UPS dude liked my woot shirt and we got into an interesting conversation about mathematics, how frakking crazy the 3rd party candidates are this time around, and several other topics.
I figured it might seem (or be?) creepy if I hunted down email addresses for my recipients and emailed them directly, so I sent the tracking info to @Yoda_Daenerys who may or may not forward said info on to my recipients.

I shipped 3 small size moving boxes today. Sadly, postage has gone way up, and it cost me way more than I thought it would to send them. However, they are all on their way, and I’m officially broke with the most expensive box being $39.99 to ship! Yikes! The closest one has a delivery date of 10/26 (woah, one day!), the next is 10/31 and the last is 11/1. Enjoy you mediocre, yet heavy boxes.

@savvysapphire I used the link from this thread, if you have a PayPal account it’s pretty good. Discount USPS parcel select turned out to be the best this go round. What I like is that you can put in your package information once and quickly switch usps and ups services to compare rates and they give you a little bit of a discount. Then I check fedex to compare just in case they give a better rate.
I’m getting worried. My package has been in transit to the sorting place for a couple of days now. I know I paid the cheapest way, but this doesn’t bode well.

According to the lady at the post office, when shipping ground, they don’t update the tracking in between when you ship and when it arrives. Does anyone else have experience with that?
The only reason I have some doubts is the tracking does show when they accepted it, and another hit when it left for the sorting destination.
It’s original arrival date is tomorrow. I’m trying not to get upset until after then…

Not only did I have a wonderful time seeing what you put in and reading all your notes but my granddaughter also had a wonderful time. She thought every thing was for her. Anything that was stuffed disappointed amidst a torrent of jibber jabber that was the cutest thing ever. She was fascinated with my unending box. I’d pick something up and she’s say, what’s that and I’d have to explain. She truly thought that box was for her. If we do this again I will definitely be using your box as an example of the right way to do an exchange box. So thank you, not only for the effort you put into it, but a special memory I’ll have of Harper. Whose best friend by the way now is the little pink pig.
