If Apple made a drone, it would probably be something like that.
Love the concept of a user friendly flying camera vs. the piloted drone devices we have now.
What I don't love: 12MP camera "Digital gimbaling" (basically DIS which sucks the life out of low res video) Built-in battery with a two hour charge time (you can't just swap out for a fresh battery) 94* FOV is like a pinhole camera 50 foot max altitude
I think it's a good starting place though. Maybe the price is a bit high for what it delivers, but it's a start.
I want to see the out-takes of this commercial. Trudging back up mountains or searching the river after your lily said hi to a tree branch would not be fun. "This but disposable" would get me excited.
@armchair But how else would it be waterproof. Having a door that opens to have access to a battery leads to chances of the seal not being water tight and negating the whole waterproof aspect.
The new 3D Robotics drone in $1K without the camera and gimble, the Phantom 3 is $1,300 loaded. How is this, with all the stuff they show in the video, going to be $600?
After spending a day thinking about the Lily, I think the better option is the 3DR Solo. Many of the same features, plus better features and more interesting options, but without the battery limitations and poor fly-to-charge time. So I can't throw it into a lake? Darn.
@ChadP Solo looks pretty sweet. I'm with you, much prefer that over Lily. But it's not aimed at the same market. Lily doesn't look like it requires much thought or planning... it just follows you and records away. Solo looks like it will require some knowledge of how to operate the device and it's software, then some planning for your shots. Any idea what the price point on Solo is? It looks like it addresses many of the things I don't like about my current platforms.
@denboy I like. It addresses some of the stuff I balked at with Lily. Removable battery, uses a real camera with a stabilized gimbal... but ouch on the price. Preorders at twice the price of Lily, and not far from @ChadP's suggestion, the Solo.
@ruouttaurmind I have a feeling the extra money for the AirDog is worth it's increased performance and durability. Having never used either my opinion is probably worth as much as I've paid to gain it.
@denboy i like a lot of what they offer, but I still think the 3DR solo is the better product. This does solve the issues I have with Lily, though seems too expensive in contrast.
At the $1000 dollar price point, I have no interest but at $519 shipped Lily looks awesome for someone interested in simple straight out the box throw and go.
Lily, go find my Phantom 1!

@ruouttaurmind I see a whole SLEW of people that will NGAF about any of that. It's basically a really awesome selfie cam.

Venturing very close to drone-selfie-stick territory.
@dave Yeah - that's my take on it. Imma get one - just to follow me in my Mustang.
The battery is sealed in to the chassis. This is something I dislike.

@armchair I see what you did there. (and it's hilarious)

@CaseyB Non-preorder price looks like $1k for this one too.

@ruouttaurmind With Gimbal it's $1400, without it's $1000. Pretty good price.
@ChadP How about the AirDog

@denboy I hear you. I've learned at least a handful of times: In this hobby it's VERY easy to be penny wise and have it turn out pound foolish.

@ChadP I think @barney would disagree.....go purple arms
By the time you add a gimbal and a GoPro 4 you're looking at 2 grand. That's a pretty huge leap from $500.
@denboy @ChadP Purple! Purple! Purple! Gooooo purple! Yay!
@Barney So THAT'S what it takes to draw @Barney into the .Horse forum!
@ruouttaurmind I like purple goats. I'm not real sure about purple horses.
@Barney Fizzypop will win you over... (And I thought I never learned anything from the kids!) .
@ruouttaurmind LOL I'll get back to you.
