I mean, once, when I was 8... I was on the Disney Channel for owning a snake in a 'Cool Pets' segment--sooo I am kind of an honorary Derp-I mean Herpetologist anyway.
I've learned there are simply too many fucking snakes. I've also learned that the Rough Earth Snake seems to be way tinier than it looks in that picture.
@cinoclav from my limited snake ownership--I learned that snake facts are bogus. My snake was never supposed to get over 3 ft long. Home boy topped out at over 5 feet and lived well past his lifespan.
@sammydog01 I had the same reaction. I'm not a huge fan of snakes, but this little guy is adorable. (Though I must confess, those feelings would likely be different if he was slithering toward me or some creep had just hurled him in my general direction.)
I'm currently going through a list of snakes found in Texas and tbh I'm amazed you're not all already dead
in related news, I'm going with either a rough earth snake or a smooth earth snake. that means one of you has to pick it up to make sure.
@Lotsofgoats I also used to live in Australia. Not sure if that makes me more prone to surviving, or if it's more of a miracle that I'm alive.
@hollboll the sheer variety of things that can kill you in Australia is certainly impressive
@hollboll "In a Sunburned Country" by Bill Bryson. Great book. A good portion of it is dedicated to how beautiful-but-deadly it is.
@Lotsofgoats I am using http://www.whatsnakeisthat.com/south/texas and I agree... of the limited choices available, it does appear to be a Rough Earth Snake
@connorbush I used the same site. I think we are now the resident Internet herpetologists.
@Lotsofgoats @hollboll Like drop bears?
@Lotsofgoats

@Lotsofgoats as the resident herpetologist, can you look at some blisters on my REDACTED and tell me what you think?
hsssss hs hsssssssssss hhhhsssss hhssssssssssss.
there. you should be good to go now.
@carl669 Wtf man!? If you're just going to go ahead and tell it to attack, could you at least send it down the street to woot?
@cinoclav my bad. i had an extra 's' in there. it's not like snake is my native language.

@cinoclav Aw, he's so cute!

@cinoclav aw yisssss score one for me and @connorbush, we are now both board certified derpetologists (the board consists of only us)
@Lotsofgoats The Board of Depetologists
@connorbush
