Maybe it bothers me more than it should?
11When I just want to blast “long cool woman in a black dress”.
And the opening is a litterally blasted cheezit commercial
On a related but dissimilar note. If you see my lights shining over a hill crest. Or around a turn. I also see yours. Because I don’t want you to blinded when we meet head on, I turn my brights off. Which you can tell I did even though you can’t physically see me yet. Turn your brights off before I’m blinded. Not after. Ffs.

And for Certain Other People Out There, those LED conversions you bought that seem uber-powerful when you stand in front of your pickemup to admire how they look, but don’t seem to put a lot more light actually on the road? Yeah, you bought crap conversions, idiot, and everybody hates you and will leave their brights on (and maybe even step up with the offroad lighting) in response. Don’t act like you don’t understand that you are the reason some of us have been adding a light bar, dipstick.
@werehatrack grumble grumble.
Never mind that the reflectors are not designed for LEDs, and they don’t understand how light works. If they just tried to adjust/aim their headlights at install they would see the problem. But no. More power better. Me need see more. Fuck everyone else. Me going to use 4 wheel drive and flip on the highway in the snow
@unksol It’s easy enough to get LED conversions that are properly designed to replace halogen bulbs, but the bozotically-inclined types usually just look at the claimed output. The units with the worst designs tend to have extra inflation in their output numbers. I have converted both of our vehicles with excellent results, and the throw patterns closely match the originals. I find the extra margin of illumination valuable
@werehatrack I’m sure it depends. I was picturing the MOAR BETTER guys getting it off eBay/Amazon.
I’ve never seen a valid LED replacement for a 9005/9006 bulb with a reasonable cost. The LED would need to match the light pattern for the existing reflector to throw it correctly. And no one puts that effort in.
I’m aware valid LED conversions exist. And with some bulbs/reflectors it’s fine. But my newest is a 1997 lol. Not on it’s design specs…
I do need to get back to the Metro sigh
On the conversion topic… There are a bunch of conversion kits that are illegal because they put out more lumens than allowed. I hate the twats with the super bright lights shining at me at night.
Then there are a lot that are legal but still not safe.
The rules for how bright a bulb can be originated when lights were more yellow than many modern LEDs. Our eyes are more sensitive to bluer lights… So when someone has a headlight with a hint of blue in it, even though it may technically be under the allowed threshold for allowed lumens for regular headlights it is still not safe for the other drivers on the road and wreaks havoc on their night vision.
One thing that amuses me though is, my car has automatic brights and dimmer setting so I don’t have to manually switch between brights and dims.
A lot of the arsehole drivers with the bright blue lights, for some reason my car doesn’t detect, so it leaves the brights on for them but dims them for people with traditional headlights… It’s like my car has a built in arsehole detector and I love it.
@OnionSoup probably true but the main issue is reflector design, bulb throw, and aim.
Most people probably don’t even know they are supposed to aim their headlights when they change their blinker fluid
I live in truck/oil country, 90% of drivers drive pickup trucks. Most owners get a leveling kit installed that raises the front end by 2in or more, and I’d say that more than 80% of them never think to readjust their headlights, most repair/installation shops don’t adjust the headlights after installation.
This is why they illuminate my whole cab when they come up behind me and blind me when coming head on!
If you get a leveling kit or raise your truck, please pay to have your headlights professionally aimed and adjusted.
Not to mention all the folks who never got the memo that those huge LED light bars are NOT street legal! (Off-road use ONLY)
