@craigthom I bought a Martian last time it was offered here and I’ve been having some issues with it. Is it intentional that the watch won’t display the time digitally when it’s paired with a phone?
@ColeSloth@kidbutts
I have neither of those problems. Mike only disconnects when I get too far from the phone or turn it off. It always reconnect when I get back in range or turn it on.
It displays the time when I press the lower left button.
@ColeSloth Mine has disconnected twice since I bought it about 2 months ago, but otherwise works perfectly. I really like mine - got a screen protector and a black metal band from Amazon and am going to buy a spare here at this price.
@craigthom I bought a white one about a year ago, and then bought a red one and a black one the last time they were on sale. Of course I paid 25 apiece for them whereas if I had waited till today I could have save 10 bucks but hey who knew?
@eeterrific I’m wearing mine now. Actually got a compliment on it the other day. The only problem is people tend to send texts in pairs, so I end up having to pull my phone out to read eveything anyway. But it’s great for checking texts on the sly and the leash feature has kept me from leaving my phone behind a dozen times already. And the find-my-phone feature is more reliable than my Tile, because the Martian app stays open in the background.
@eeterrific it is a beautiful watch the time piece alone would cost 20 bucks i bought it as a christmas gift so its still in the box , now i’m sorry i didn’t wait on it to rebound at 5 bucks less , would be nice if Meh realized now when i see something i want to buy on this site it’s always gonna ring in the back of my mind is it going to be 20% cheaper on here next month ? Not a good policy What it should be is as follows " IF YOU BUY THIS ITEM TODAY AND WITHIN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS WE OFFER IT CHEAPER WE WILL GIVE YOU ONE MONTH FREE VMP MEMBERSHIP AS A GIFT TO OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS " can you hear me Meh but i do truly love the site !!!
@thismyusername you can actually push the cancel to just after you see the deal at midnight when the renewal date flips…at least if you are in the Eastern time zone. In other words, you can buy on the date of your renewal… and then immediately cancel.
@thismyusername I have to agree, I have not seen anything in months that I’m even remotely interested in. I live on the east coast, go to bed just after midnight, every night I click on meh.com right at midnight hoping there will be something of interest, nothing! Seems like an endless stream of knives and speakers, not interested in knives, have all the speakers I need.
Afraid I’ll have to pass on this one. However, if this were actually a “Martian notifier watch” and notified me ahead of time when Martians were coming so I could hide, thereby avoiding yet another intrusive and uncomfortable probing, I’d buy one before you could say, “Ow! Stop probing me!”
I got this last time. It works as advertised! I still can’t get used to wearing a watch, and it’s hard for me to figure out how to set an optimum amount of notifications so I get the ones I really want and not a lot of noise. But it is a good watch and does its job.
Way better than those “metawatch” things from a year ago or whatever, which seem to be dead in the water now (the company website has vanished).
I really enjoyed the Notifier for the time I wore it. I had a Fitbit Surge and was horribly disappointed by the notifications, or lack there of. I couldn’t have been more surprised at how robust the notifications were on the Martian.
Anyways, I eventually grew tired of wearing two devices and bought a cheap Garmin smart watch/fitness band duber.
The thing I miss the most is the vibration. The Garmin just beeps at me, which can get annoying when I am in a meeting and become suddenly popular. It was cool to know exactly what notification i was getting by the rhythm of the vibration.
So… Who wants my old black Notifier? It’s a little beat up… Iirc, it’s got a slight scratch in the face, and the black ring around the face fell off forever ago. Aside from that… Yeah, who wants it? Assuming I can find it, just moved so everything’s still in boxes.
@Tiverty cool. What’s a way to contact you so I can get your address? I’d say to email me, but then I would have no way of knowing whether it was you who responded, or some evil doer!
That would have been expected though. Most mehmbers (hopefully) realize that Meh doesn’t do the expected.
On a related note:
“Expect the unexpected”. That doesn’t really make sense, because by definition, you’re telling me to expect something that CAN"T be expected (thus turning it into something expected). Since you can’t predict that though, it IS the unexpected. circulus sine fine…
@robson Had mine about a year and love it. Does what it needs and stays charged for like 4 days. Worth it for caller ID and an instant send to voicemail button, alone.
I got this watch from here a long time ago. Touching the glass display does nothing, contrary to what the description says. There is another version of the watch that does have a touch screen. And as far as I can remember (to lazy to plug my watch in and check), there are no fitness functions, contrary to what the description says.
@Lamario fyi: they aren’t touchscreen. You tap the glass hard enough for the accelerometer to feel it and it brings up previous messages. It works as advertised.
@ColeSloth beat me to it. I tapped on that shit quite often and it responded as described.
Now, @Lamario is correct in that there is no Fitness component to the Martian Smartwatch. I’m guessing the description was intended to mean that it can show notifications from Fitness apps
Sorry I have to rain on Meh’s parade every time this comes up, but the Martian Notifier is just the worst. Not so waterproof, crappy custom cable design, sketchy software, and unit-bricking firmware updates. Hard pass at any price.
@tizio It’s worth noting that if you need a Burning Man project for next year, you should contact matt@meh.com and ask to buy every last one of these. Everyone will appreciate it.
@RedOak That’s a great point! I bought the Meta watch (not the one pictured, but the $50 model), and like an NBA player in his 30s, it stopped taking a charge. I’ve had the Martian notifier since the last Meh sale, and I’m pretty happy with it.
I’ve had one of each color for about a year. They work as advertised except for my red one which didn’t fare well through a washing machine cycle. Oops. Even with that, the analog still works but the digital portion doesn’t. I’ve had no disconnection issues and tap function works great. For an inexpensive watch (especially for $20) it does what I want and works great with my iPhone.
Count me in for one more. I also bought this maybe a year ago and found I really liked the notifications but also used it often to take pictures from my iPhone (no selfie stick needed with a tiny tripod or other leaning device)*, but I’ve lost it and am confident I won’t find it again until I receive another!
*I don’t understand how to use Giphy or whatever those are but I’d do one here from N.L. European Vacation of the Griswolds backing into the fountain in Italy (Milan, maybe?) and <SPOILER ALERT> the man Clark asks to take the family’s photo takes off with the camera and risque billboards follow, naturally.
I own one for a year. Wear daily. Think of it as a watch with benefits. The vibration is my silent alarm every morn, so as not to wake my bride. Replaced the thick rubber band with a standard 22mm leather band, so long sleeves now fit better. Connection drops maybe monthly - tapping lower button usually restores. Not big deal. Charge lasts about 6d. In for a spare.
I got one of these last time for my dad. He loves it. Perfect for him cause he can never hear the notifications on his phone but he can feel the vibration on his wrist. Bought another one as a gift.
I love this watch - still wearing the one I bought last year. It’s great to turn the “shut up” switch on the iPhone on, and still catch everything necessary. I can even dismiss calls without pulling out the phone.
It does function as a remote for the camera, which I’ve used a few times.
However, I spent some time this summer on Chincoteague Island, and the high humidity fogged the lens. There’s a bit of residual on the underside of the lens, which is just a tiny bit annoying.
@ManBehindPlan Mine got a little fogged in the rain once. I left it overnight on a lamp shade above a CFL numb, warm but not hot, and it was clear in the morning.
Bought one last time on meh. Would not pair- then firmware update bricked it. 1st time disappointed in meh purchase! Martian warranty is a sad joke. ymmv
I got this watch last time when I was using a Samsung S5 and it worked perfectly. I now have an iphone 7 and it works but not 100% correctly. With the iphone 7, regardless of the settings I specify the watch chooses what it wants to notify me about. Also, most texts and imessages are not notified on my iphone 7
@Tmonteforte
Quick, get a new phone! Or get a watch that says Apple on the back and watch your bank malfunction too. Get one that does not say Apple and actually connects to things like SD cards, the world standard cables and devices, and USBC too! But not Windows, which leaves Android.
Seems like a good enough watch until my Pebble Time 2 comes around. Plus it looks like a normal watch I can wear with my suit and not have people ask me a ton of questions.
OOFTA! Ya I done bought me two o dese phones! I canna wait ta git er and be making phoneless wireless calls. I sure vill make de bird calls, and de moose calls which is purty close ta my wifey call. I bet I be de envy o de 64 years olds wid high tek watches. BY yimminy dey match de ol big screen 36 inch TV dat only werks on de cable now. How do ya leash de wife widdit?
I can’t imagine any scenario where someone will read this way down here, but I have one of these and it’s pretty great. Just a nice looking watch that makes it harder to miss a text from my wife when my phone is in my pocket. One caveat though is that if you buy it from here, it’s possible that Martian won’t honor the warranty.
@grovberg if that happens just contact meh support and they will sort it out. In most cases it is because the company you are contacting for warranty support don’t have this place listed as “meh.com” they have it listed as “a mediocre corporation”.
@thismyusername Their warranty specifically excludes anything that isn’t “purchased directly from Martian Watches or from a Martian authorized retailer.” The one I got from a similar but different deal site came broken and I had to pay them a repair fee to get it fixed because of the warranty issue. The deal + repair cost was still way under the retail price, so it was well worth it, but it’s still good to be aware.
I bought one of these for myself last year and loved it. And bought one for three family members for Christmas and they never get used, but, you know… I was skeptical of how it may work and the like, but it ended up being great. I’ve worn watches for a while, so it didn’t take getting used to, though the rubber watch band isn’t that great; if you’re going to use this a lot, I’d probably find a different band for it. You can set unique vibration patterns for apps, so you can tell just how it vibrates if it’s a text or an email or something else. Battery life is pretty good, though the fact that it needs a proprietary charging cable is a little annoying. I don’t use mine much since I was able to nab a Moto 360 for like $80 and that works a little better, but this is a great “intro” smartwatch if you’re thinking about trying them out.
@jushen It’s not actually a touchscreen, it works on the accelerometer. So really, anything that triggers that should work; I’ve even done it with a hard flick of the wrist. But I generally give it a somewhat solid “flick” with my thumb not on the face itself but where the band connects to the body of the watch. It shouldn’t take much force though. Also be sure you’re on the most recent version of whatever (firmware?). I had a few issues with mine until I updated that.
@jushen I bought one from a different deal site awhile back that had this exact problem. Support wasn’t able to fix it and the watch had to be replaced. Had to pay a fee because it wasn’t purchased from a “authorized retailer.” Just FYI.
Its just a standard usb mini plug that is a bit longer. I grabbed a spare cable I had laying around, took a pocketknife out and whittled down some of the plastic so the plug fit deep enough into the watch, and BOOM. Charging cord.
@connorbush I had meant that as a reply to you earlier, hit the wrong button. Maybe look at your extra cords and start with one that has a little longer end to start with. I was able to make one ectra to have at work. I would post pics as proof if I could. lol. good luck.
@milosbaby I have a cheap phone that I bought to use as an alarm clock and bluetooth sound source in the bedroom/bathroom or when I am working in the shop or outside and don’t want ot expose my phone to the moisture or dust/dirt.
It also has a super deep micro USB socket, and a trip to the dollar tree and an exacto knife fixed that problem quite easily when I needed a spare/extra cable.
BTW, if you missed this sale these are over at morningsave for $25. At first glance it doesn’t seem that they have black since there are only buttons for the red and white, but if you go to the order page black is available as of this moment…
Tried for 40 minutes to get the watch to connect. No dice. Using note 4 and the app. Refuses to connect. What the @$#! Am I doing wrong… Martians support is non existant too.
@Beruud Even if it’s already set to Android you need to do it again so it’s trying to pair and the light is blinking. And you need to pair it with the app.
UPDATE: a year after I bought my first black Notifier here, and wearing it probably a couple of hundred times, three of the silver tick marks on the face have fallen off, leaving little outlines of what is probably glue.
This may or may not be related to me dropping it just before this started happening. They all didn’t drop at once, but it was within a few days.
They aren’t visible unless I shake the watch just right, and then they disappear again. There must be room out of sight for them to rest.
The two, three, and eight o’clock marks fell off. The outer ring has not fallen off, as it has with others.
I bought two of these watches back in November…and they won’t charge. One won’t even acknowledge it is plugged in and the other the green indicator light lights up and the “M” (in Martian on the LCD screen) will light up and go away…like it wants to start up but just can’t quite get there. Anyone else have this problem? Super bummed cuz I really like them.
UPDATE: I tried using a different charging cable (@milosbaby suggestion above, just cut away some of the plastic off a standard USB charging cable to make insert fit into watch)…worked!! Both watches charged up! So wasn’t a watch issue just two cheap charging cables.
The two issues that make me go “meh” is that … 1) they are BULKY. It’s uncomfortable…but ok, I got used to that. I LIKE what it DOES…and I really think I NEED something like this, but 2) after wearing it about a week, 4 of the little gold hour marks fell off! They are now rattling round at the bottom covering the rolling display! That turned my “meh” into a “grrrrrr.” I guess I need to go buy a more expensive smart watch. lol
Well, it was fun while it lasted. Can’t get mine to pair with my phone any more over the past week or so. Doesn’t seem to send out a bluetooth signal. When I try to pair it, no ‘flashing blue light’ appears any more. Tried a firmware update, but already on the last version… Plan to try to call Martian in the next couple of days (when I have time for the inevitable wait on hold…). Maybe they will have a suggestion other than getting a new one.
Worked perfectly for a year, then the silver hour indicators began falling off the watch face.
Also, the Martian app for syncing the watch to your phone is no longer available & Martian will not respond to any of my messages regarding the app.

Watching the time go “buy” on this deal tonight …
Watch me skip this deal.
totally meh
@beachhead we can time you
I can’t watch this.
If I didn’t already own two of these I’d buy another.
At this price, I may buy another black one as a spare.
I am very happy with this watch.
@craigthom
You have the occasional disconnect/reconnect? I really like mine. Had it around a year, but sometimes it disconnects when it shouldn’t.
@craigthom I bought a Martian last time it was offered here and I’ve been having some issues with it. Is it intentional that the watch won’t display the time digitally when it’s paired with a phone?

@kidbutts toggle “World Clock” on the Display menu in the app.
Why would I want to notify a Martian?? I mean…what would I notify her about?? Oh…you mean maybe about Trump and illegal aliens??
@eeterrific You beat me to it! LOL!
@Fish_Kungfu Well, I think once he finds out about the Martians, he’ll wanna build a dome…
@eeterrific
No thanks. Already got a phone. heartily mehed.
Just posted my first tweet since 7 Nov 2011. You can’t say I don’t love you, meh.
@KDemo I tweeted too! Too bad no one follows me.
@sammydog01
@KDemo First tweet in a year for me, too bad it doesn’t tag @WeAreMeh
got this last time on here for $25.00
@mellowirishgent And…? Was it worth it?
@eeterrific Not OP, but I did the same thing and I like it quite a bit. Cheap, unobtrusive way to get your notifications more accessible.
Also more attention-grabbing – I often miss my phone vibrating in my pocket if I’m standing/walking, but this can’t be missed when it goes off.
I charge it maybe once a week. Infrequently enough that it’s not annoying.
@eeterrific I’m wearing mine now. Actually got a compliment on it the other day. The only problem is people tend to send texts in pairs, so I end up having to pull my phone out to read eveything anyway. I’ll give it a shot at this price, even though it is probably wider than my wrist.

May be “Time” to cancel my VMP
@mellowirishgent the time to cancel it is when you haven’t used it for 28 days after the last charge.
@thismyusername you can actually push the cancel to just after you see the deal at midnight when the renewal date flips…at least if you are in the Eastern time zone. In other words, you can buy on the date of your renewal… and then immediately cancel.
Finally, an Eastern time zone benefit!
@thismyusername I have to agree, I have not seen anything in months that I’m even remotely interested in. @rv617 you should have used astroglide
@rv617 come on I couldn’t pass on an alien anal rape
I’ll skip this one like I skip the baby octopus at the Chinese buffet.
@Fish_Kungfu But they’re so cute still wiggling on the plate. And the mouthfeel is incredible.
I got this last time. It works as advertised! I still can’t get used to wearing a watch, and it’s hard for me to figure out how to set an optimum amount of notifications so I get the ones I really want and not a lot of noise. But it is a good watch and does its job.

It’s okay, I’m totally authorized to give out that email addy. It is ElOel@evildoer.com. (Bwhahahahaha)
@smigit2002 If you contact Martian, they’ll send you a replacement ring. It’s a known issue.
@El_Oel oh grandma, what long teeth you have!
@brainmist huh, that’s good to know, I guess! Thanks for the heads up
Can’t believe no one is whining it’s not a fuko…
@chienfou or about not being able to make margaritas.
@chienfou

WTF… why not. My last watch bit the dust a while back and I miss it at work in the ER.
/giphy Marvin the martian
@chienfou finally… Took a dozen tries to get this one!
@chienfou
I liked the one from Space Jam.
@chienfou The worst part about this watch working in the ER is that it has no second hand.
@Griff726 oh…I hadn’t noticed that… That’s a bummer. Maybe I can synch a clock app to it!
Sorry I have to rain on Meh’s parade every time this comes up, but the Martian Notifier is just the worst. Not so waterproof, crappy custom cable design, sketchy software, and unit-bricking firmware updates. Hard pass at any price.

@tizio no way can it be as wonky as this $15 experimehnt:

I bought one of these last month. Generally I’m very happy with it for the price, it just does what I want.
It doesn’t have the function of an Apple Watch, but it’s perfect if you just want something that tells time + a little more.
Great watch, but it stops working if you even glance at running water, much less actually get it wet. So, you know. Great for hydrophobists.
Wore mine while bike riding. Big mistake. Sweat killed the display. Now it’s just an ugly dumbwatch.
VERY happy with mine after a month, but I’m glad I read today’s comments about it not being very waterproof. I’ll definitely be careful with that.
I got one of these last time for my dad. He loves it. Perfect for him cause he can never hear the notifications on his phone but he can feel the vibration on his wrist. Bought another one as a gift.

Get a screen protector before placing on your wrist - the lens is very prone for abrasion. This is one I use: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HZ79SQ8/
I’d be in for a spare, but I just got one a week ago (or so) from here. I’d grouse about it, but it was only $5 more.

My girlfriend is forever losing her phone, so the “leash” functionality and the ability to ring her phone from it is worth it alone.
If only normal watches didn’t look weird on my awkwardly small baby wrists. Meh
NO second hand… Bah… Nurses need em. It’s about the only reason to wear a watch these days…
@Mandamm yeah, I bought one before I noticed that… Oh well. Guess I can use in when I ‘dress up’ to go out.
@grovberg hey… guess what… I read this!
@chienfou Liar.
My tapping function (to bring up previous message) never worked. How hard should I hit the screen and where exactly?
I lost the specialized micro usb charger. Some Amazon-ing did not lead to a viable replacement. Please advise.
@connorbush
eBay pricing is a bit ridiculous for a USB cable.
@PlacidPenguin I wrote customer service at martian. We shall see.
@connorbush Martian sells their cable on their site. Currently $6. https://www.martianwatches.com/product/micro-usb-cable
Its just a standard usb mini plug that is a bit longer. I grabbed a spare cable I had laying around, took a pocketknife out and whittled down some of the plastic so the plug fit deep enough into the watch, and BOOM. Charging cord.
@milosbaby Nice! Maybe they’ll sell a pocket knife tomorrow for @connorbush.
@milosbaby hmmm. I will try then report back tonight! Thank you.
@chienfou $29 now… hmmm!!
Tried for 40 minutes to get the watch to connect. No dice. Using note 4 and the app. Refuses to connect. What the @$#! Am I doing wrong… Martians support is non existant too.
@Beruud bummer. Mine fired up just as expected and so far I like it a lot.
@Beruud On the watch, you need to switch it to android. On your phone, you need to enable notifications.
I’m still wearing it.
That turned my “meh” into a “grrrrrr.” I guess I need to go buy a more expensive smart watch. lol
@paulasheri or, ya know, contact Martin about the warranty and get it fixed.
(if they don’t know who meh.com is, remember they might know them as “A Mediocre Corporation”.)
@chienfou Your call will never get through.

@chienfou @narfcake Wow.
@narfcake @therealjrn it figures… in fact, come to think of it, that’s about when it stopped working! Hmmm…coincidence??
IT DIED, BATTERY OK, BUT WATCH DIED AND MARTIAN ISN’T ANY HELP. THEY IGNORE YOU
Worked perfectly for a year, then the silver hour indicators began falling off the watch face.
Also, the Martian app for syncing the watch to your phone is no longer available & Martian will not respond to any of my messages regarding the app.
