@kdemo@ravenblack all depends on how they count the threads. Some places count threads that are twisted together as separate threads. So a “600” thread count is really 300.
@the_inevitable Half the Chinese garbage they sell here was probably made by a child working in a factory for 18 hours a day. Let’s not grow a conscience and miss out on deals.
@the_inevitable it’s people like you that assume that make this a crappy world. You have zero knowledge and by inference of price you have deemed this a racists evil company and the seller one too. Just stay in your bunker.
You think paying Hispanic field pickers $10 a day isn’t slave labor? Stop eating too while you’re at it.
@the_inevitable Buy Heartland sheets. At least the cotton is grown here by American farmers & they have a decent thread count. Elastic all the way around the fitted sheet.
@the_inevitable@Woody1 Pretty hot take there, stating that the cause of a problem is pointing out a problem. By your logic, you’re also making this a crappy world by assuming they know nothing, think the sheets are racist and evil, think that meh is racist and evil, don’t put any thought into where their food comes from, and then by telling them they’re making it a crappy world.
Frankly, I look at Meh like a yard sale that is basically keeping things out of the landfill that are probably not being made by anyone anymore, children, slaves, or otherwise. So I’m not really into caring about origins this far down the chain. I guess I’m still curious why you’re so triggered and feel the need to lash out and blame the world’s problems on people that care too much for your taste.
PS most Chinese cotton is harvested by people “detained” by the government for having the wrong religion or skin color. That seems wrong to me, and if someone disagrees then I don’t think there’s much discussion left on that topic. Definitely room for figuring out what to do about it though
@Woody1 thanks for that and good point - yes, a lot of goods here were already manufactured, they’re pretty far down the consumer chain by the time they get here.
@Superllama7 i get that we either can’t know or don’t think about where a lot of goods come from, but i think part of change is being aware. i can’t fathom that pointing out that we KNOW that cotton is an industry rife with abuses somehow makes the world worse. we can draw attention to known issues and try our best to make ethical choices. some people can’t afford to make more ethical choices, like buying local foods or clothing with a verified supply chain, but if you can, being aware and at least trying to make ethical choices does make the world better.
@the_inevitable the real question is if you feel that “half the things are probably made by Chinese child labor working 18 hour days” then why are you here? Hoping your occasional purchase comes from the other half they sell?
@warpedrotors It is easy to make a statement without knowing and being there to verify the statement you make. I am developing a new product and I have visited over 50 factories in China in the last 3 years. I insist on visiting every factory that quotes me a reasonable price to see their processes and check their employment process. I have visited factories in remote places where they have not seen foreigners before, and they have taken selfies with me. Sometimes I stay for a few hours, sometimes for a few days. I am a small manufacturer here in the USA for the last 23 years and I can spot discrepancies in processes. I have not seen a single case of child labor. And my product is a small value product so they do not have to scrub their place for my visit. Everybody in the world wants to make a decent living. Does it happen, of course. It happens in every country. The 80/20 rule applies everywhere in the world. There are unscrupulous people everywhere. But it is mostly the politicians who screw up the situation for all of us.
@ivo__5@the_inevitable Because I think those little bastards make great bluetooth speakers and flashlights. Someone has to make sure they keep their jobs.
@asplus Cool story, but the only reason you’re using factories in China is because it costs you less. For it to cost you less, they have to pay their workers less. Good luck with your business and your ethical perfection. I’m sure the people taking selfies with you are earning the proper wage for the work they do, and work in fantastic conditions, with amazing benefits. Save it.
@warpedrotors Ah, yes. One of those “know it all”. And with ethics,of course. Cost is not the only issue. There are many things that cannot be made here. Why don’t you toss your phone and your computer also, while you question their ethical manufacturing capabilities and sources. And of course, you walk to work without any transportation because the components they use are made unethically, in your fancy sneakers and underwear, also made unethically. You need air conditioning and refrigeration? Ethical, of course!!. Electricity, light bulbs while you type on your keys? Go on, get rid of everything that you cannot trace to an ethical source and let me know how you grow your food, build your shelter, and make a living in fantastic conditions with amazing benefits. Ohh, you may not be able to get on Meh to let me know, because you will be off-grid.
@asplus Pointing out your unethical, cheapass business practices doesn’t mean I give a shit. I don’t give a fuck if we take over China and enslave all their children to make everything we need. I made a joke and a bunch of you got all defensive and sensitive. You can relax now. Everything is fine. All your workers are happy. Go get your selfies.
@warpedrotors You don’t “give a shit or a fuck” because you are incapable of both. Since you don’t “give a shit”, it is obvious that you are full of crap. With a “cheapass” attitude like yours I can understand your “don’t give a fuck” also, because it never happens to you.
You want to make a joke, say it and move on. If you are trying to pick a fight … bring it on.
@asplus Sir, this is a thread about sheets on an internet deal site. You’re looking for the internet tough guy forums. I’ll let you win this one instead of “bringing it on,” which I can only assume means you’re challenging me to some kind of dance-off. Try not to have an aneurysm over comments on the internet. Your tantrum just shows that you’re unstable. Your overly-defensive responses show that my assessment of your cheap and inhumane business practices is spot on. Good luck with the manufacture and importing of useless crap, manufactured using child labor and slave wages. I’ll be sure to buy several when your products eventually make their way to meh. Love you! Tell your mom I said hi!
@RogerWilco@spavlis@xarophti For the first time ever I have microfiber sheets. They’re great. Comfy and fit very well even after a dozen washings so far. Maybe I got lucky. Why is it not good for sheets?
@RogerWilco@spavlis@xarophti I’ve never met someone who studies textiles before. While I’m not saying I don’t believe you, it’s just something I never thought about people geeking out on…
Regarding Microfiber though it does have to do with the GSM of the cloth. 110-120 will have less pilling than your cheaper 55 GSM cloth.
@highphilosopher@RogerWilco@sammydog01@spavlis
Never took a formal course as I got interested as a reenactor after college, but I’ve done quite a bit of self research. I lean more in the linen direction.
Maybe I did end up with crappy microfiber. But I’ll stick with the cotton from now on. I have looked lustfully at some of these places that sell linen sheets, I must say, but I’m not that wealthy.
One set is fantastic, better than any high thread count cotton sheets I’ve ever owned. The other is utter garbage and started pilling and getting runs after the first use.
I’ve come to the conclusion that there is microfiber and there is microfiber and they’re two very different things. Just like there is cheap polyester clothes that make you sweat and retain odors and then there is expensive performance polyester that is odor and stain resistant, superior moisture wicking, etc.
The name of the material matters less than the quality. Cheap crap is frequently crap no matter if it’s cotton, polyester, or whatever. Although I do think cotton has less variance and room for error compared to man made fabrics.
@RogerWilco@sammydog01@spavlis@xarophti
Ahhh… If we could afford linen we wouldn’t be here . Very cool on the reenactment stuff… Always wanted to get into that, just don’t have the time.
@highphilosopher@RogerWilco@sammydog01@spavlis
Of course, most of the reenactment season is DOA this year. I’m kinda glad for the break. Some places are planning for fall events, but I’m opting out.
@highphilosopher@RogerWilco@sammydog01@spavlis@xarophti Don’t get linen, get bamboo sheets. So soft. People complain it gets wrinkled. Really? I’m sleeping on it, who cares what it looks like? Cover it up with the comforter when you’re out of bed…
@CosmicTwister@rustyh3 I thought so too.
Found this:
What is the difference between brushed cotton and flannel? … Brushed cotton involves brushing on the face side, resulting in a fabric that is soft, retains heat but is also breathable. Flannel fabric is brushed on both sides, resulting in a fuzzier, warmer and thicker fabric.
Brushed cotton sounds like psuedo-flannel. At 144 TC, these will be like those see-through sheets my wife bought off the back of a truck in a Publix parking lot. YUCK! Or so I was telling myself, until I had to pick Ivory, and now I don’t want it. So Meh!
144? That’s like one step up from mosquito netting, right? Or cheesecloth? I suppose one could buy these and use them to strain berry seeds or tomato seeds when canning juice.

Still no love for Cal King beds.
@kungfuqua Or waterbeds.
@Hanky @kungfuqua or twin xl !!!
@kungfuqua or heart shaped orgy beds
@OnionSoup My favorite Nirvana song
@kungfuqua but not as famous as Smells like Teen orgy.
That’s… definitely a face.
That’s a gross thread count
@Superllama7 - Took a second.
Kudos!
@Superllama7
/giphy dad joke
I’ve never even heard of a thread count that low. That’s the 144p of thread count. Pass.
You finally get real cotton sheets and they’re 144 thread count?? Hahahaha!
(I thought 300 was the lowest available)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@kdemo thread count is a marketing tool. Staple length is what matters.
@kdemo I felt a 600 thread count sheet, and hated it, so maybe I’d like 144 better than 300!
@kdemo @ravenblack all depends on how they count the threads. Some places count threads that are twisted together as separate threads. So a “600” thread count is really 300.
@kdemo @ravenblack @RiotDemon
And yet even if it were 300 it would be 150 right so I mean it’s lower than my left nutsack
@RiotDemon you have two nutsacks? So is that 4 nuts, or just 2 but they each get their own sack?
@dmnhntr86 I think you meant to reply to someone else. I only have one nut sack.
@kdemo @ravenblack @RiotDemon @sippinndippin one side always hangs lower.
@dmnhntr86 @RiotDemon although those look like walnuts. Must be English.
@dmnhntr86 @RiotDemon @unksol
Idk we have RiotDemon and a Demonhunter sounds Italian to me Dante?
Casper, the FRIENDLY ghost!
That thread count’s not real …right?!
Narrator: It wasn’t a dream.
I’ve heard of 60 thread count
Does not make 144 impressive
@tsveggie
Mcwhere gummibear?
@tsveggie C’mon it’s not that bad
144 thread count is only considered “medium fine”
If you’re prepping for a polyurethane varnish, these might be the ticket
A LOT of cotton is harvested by slave labor. Without country of origin we don’t know (but can assume on some factors like price).
@the_inevitable According to other sites, the country of origin is Pakistan.
@heartny @the_inevitable
So does Pakistan use slavery?
@the_inevitable Half the Chinese garbage they sell here was probably made by a child working in a factory for 18 hours a day. Let’s not grow a conscience and miss out on deals.

Starred this and 3 of your other comments because I can and now I feel better.
@Superllama7 @the_inevitable @Woody1
Your SJW speech convinced me to buy. Thank you for your tears that saved me money
@Woody1 thanks for that and good point - yes, a lot of goods here were already manufactured, they’re pretty far down the consumer chain by the time they get here.

@ivo__5 pretty wild that you’re motivated to buy something that could support slave labor just to own someone you view as an SJW.

What is the type of weave on these?
Very boring colors. Meh.
I’ll gladly take microfiber over a 144 thread count cotton.
@RogerWilco Tried microfiber once. Never again. Crackled with static every time I rolled over & had little pill balls after the first couple washes.
@RogerWilco @xarophti Doesn’t sounds like microfiber to me. Sounds like you got ripped off.
Microfiber ftw imo ymmv
@RogerWilco @spavlis I study textiles. I know what microfiber is. It sucks for sheets.

Found one review:
https://imgur.com/gallery/aleuqI5
@TBoneZeOriginal sounds like the coarse sandpaper of sheets
@robson @TBoneZeOriginal Macys had a few reviews- thin and wrinkled mostly. Some were happy because cheap, others not.
These would be great for the guest bedroom, but only if you don’t like your guests! Not having guests right now anyway with covid and all…
@robson you like your in-laws?
144? Meh.
Casper only thinks his brothers are treating him nice. He will wake up in the mail going to a Meh customer. Now that is scary!!
I can’t think of anything less comfortable than trying to sleep on lead crystal
I’m confused by this
I think sleeping on hay would be equivalent
@admiralpoopants But if you’re allergic to hay, this is a great alternative!
Flannel sheets (also called brushed cotton) Meh!
@CosmicTwister - I am naming you the Winner! I do believe you called it correctly. Hard Pass…
@CosmicTwister @rustyh3 I thought so too.
Found this:
What is the difference between brushed cotton and flannel? … Brushed cotton involves brushing on the face side, resulting in a fabric that is soft, retains heat but is also breathable. Flannel fabric is brushed on both sides, resulting in a fuzzier, warmer and thicker fabric.
@callow @CosmicTwister @rustyh3 so it’s half-flannel!
My favorite thing about these sheets is that they brought us another episode of Ghastly Comfort!
Could I get a set of twin for about $12? Of do I have to buy king and cut them in half?
Brushed cotton sounds like psuedo-flannel. At 144 TC, these will be like those see-through sheets my wife bought off the back of a truck in a Publix parking lot. YUCK! They probably feel like crushed Waterford crystal. For the 33% of my life (lately more like 66%) I spend in bed, I can do a lot better than this…
80% of all cotton produced worldwide in 2017 was genetically modified. In the US, 93% of all cotton currently grown is GMO cotton.
@patbarrett1 …and GMOs gave existed since before Gregor Mendel put a name to it and formalized genetics as a field of study.
@accumulator @patbarrett1
I approve this message.
@accumulator @patbarrett1 Incorrect! "It’s true that both hybrids and GMOs are genetic manipulations. Hybrids can occur naturally or they might be facilitated by humans. in other words GMOs are not just hybrids, they are created by DNA “editing” which was not possible in Mendel’s time.
@pmarin Thank you for this accurate description. GMOs literally cut and paste generic information from one entity to another. No one had been able to do that until right now.
@patbarrett1 Who cares?
144 TC? Meh… Dbl Meh. As far as GMO cotton? I could care less, I am not eating it. I sure wish I could eat some corn though. Off my diet list, as it is almost all GMO…Come on Meh, besides the BLAH colors… I won’t buy Microfiber or This TC…
@Mandamm you could care less? Or couldn’t?
Most food is GMO. We’ve been breeding food forever.
@RiotDemon Thank you for this. My wife (Ph.D. studies earth sciences and mineral cycles) keeps a soap box around just for combating the attitude that GMOs are bad.
Most people do not realize that we would not be able to feed our current global population without genetic modifications to our food. There are almost zero crops grown, from giant farms to backyard gardens, that do not include GMO varietals. That little sticker that says non-GMO only means that the genetic material of that specific plant was not modified between the ground and grocery shelf. It does not mean that the variety wasn’t developed using genetic modifications.
Hmm… which color of “aren’t they all just kind-of-white?” do you want? Well, it turns out for Queen, you can only pick “Ivory” now – and that’s the one that I was pretty sure I didn’t want. The 144 TC doesn’t bother me because as a flannel-like sheet (half-flannel?) those are never the fine-thread-tight-weave stuff that you get in the high-TC sheets. It’s a different process. Or so I was telling myself, until I had to pick Ivory, and now I don’t want it. So Meh!
144? That’s like one step up from mosquito netting, right? Or cheesecloth? I suppose one could buy these and use them to strain berry seeds or tomato seeds when canning juice.
Hey, @MEH, why don’t you offer us some 800-count, so that we can re-purpose them for COVID mask filters?
Who’s hiring to be a sheet thread counter? Sounds like an easy gig.
Did someone’s grandmother crochet these sheets? That is the only way I see getting a thread count that low.
Can also be repurposed to make screens over your windows.
I got these. Terrible sheets. Regret factor is high. Why would you sell such low quality product? Been meh-inng and woofing since 2005. Beh
@zandorrr I mean, they said they are 144 thread count.
@zandorrr SAME! I didn’t think 144 TC would be THIS bad!
The top sheet is discolored.
These were horrible!
@Kezrms
Oh? Do you care to elaborate?
Have you contacted meh Customer Service?
What was the result? I’m guessing… @Kezmrs doesn’t have a dog in the the hunt.
So give it up! How were these so horrible?
