I am developing a new product and I have visited over 50 factories in China in the last 3 years. I insist on visiting every factory that quotes me a reasonable price to see their processes and check their employment process. I have visited factories in remote places where they have not seen foreigners before, and they have taken selfies with me. Sometimes I stay for a few hours, sometimes for a few days. I am a small manufacturer here in the USA for the last 23 years and I can spot discrepancies in processes. I have not seen a single case of child labor. And my product is a small value product so they do not have to scrub their place for my visit. Everybody in the world wants to make a decent living. Does it happen, of course. It happens in every country. The 80/20 rule applies everywhere in the world. There are unscrupulous people everywhere. But it is mostly the politicians who screw up the situation for all of us.

Regarding Microfiber though it does have to do with the GSM of the cloth. 110-120 will have less pilling than your cheaper 55 GSM cloth.

Never took a formal course as I got interested as a reenactor after college, but I’ve done quite a bit of self research. I lean more in the linen direction.
Maybe I did end up with crappy microfiber. But I’ll stick with the cotton from now on. I have looked lustfully at some of these places that sell linen sheets, I must say, but I’m not that wealthy.
One set is fantastic, better than any high thread count cotton sheets I’ve ever owned. The other is utter garbage and started pilling and getting runs after the first use.
I’ve come to the conclusion that there is microfiber and there is microfiber and they’re two very different things. Just like there is cheap polyester clothes that make you sweat and retain odors and then there is expensive performance polyester that is odor and stain resistant, superior moisture wicking, etc.
The name of the material matters less than the quality. Cheap crap is frequently crap no matter if it’s cotton, polyester, or whatever. Although I do think cotton has less variance and room for error compared to man made fabrics.

Most people do not realize that we would not be able to feed our current global population without genetic modifications to our food. There are almost zero crops grown, from giant farms to backyard gardens, that do not include GMO varietals. That little sticker that says non-GMO only means that the genetic material of that specific plant was not modified between the ground and grocery shelf. It does not mean that the variety wasn’t developed using genetic modifications.
Hmm… which color of “aren’t they all just kind-of-white?” do you want? Well, it turns out for Queen, you can only pick “Ivory” now – and that’s the one that I was pretty sure I didn’t want. The 144 TC doesn’t bother me because as a flannel-like sheet (half-flannel?) those are never the fine-thread-tight-weave stuff that you get in the high-TC sheets. It’s a different process. Or so I was telling myself, until I had to pick Ivory, and now I don’t want it. So Meh!

80% of all cotton produced worldwide in 2017 was genetically modified. In the US, 93% of all cotton currently grown is GMO cotton.
