I have a vacation coming up and that newer luggage that rolls on all directions is so nice.
@Star2236 Be aware that on uneven surfaces like parking lots and city streets, it can get squirrely fast. My brother broke a finger trying to control the twisting fall of one in a situation like that, and has since swapped back to a drag-behind bag for his big unit. The casters on the spinner type don’t work well in drag-behind mode, especially on gravel - and in spinner mode, they just refuse to do gravel at all.

@Star2236 but think about how often you will be in those situations vs moving it in your house, at the airport, hotel, etc. For me exposure to uneven pavement, etc was minimal and the benefits outweighed the small inconveience. I think it is a personal preference thing
@Star2236 @tinamarie1974 For the smaller bags that are easily carried, the spinner configuration is definitely my preference; getting them around obstacles in an airport terminal or aircraft aisle is much easier. It’s a matter of matching the equipment to the needs of the individual, and that requires knowing the drawbacks of each choice.

For instance I usually travel by air. From the house to the car is even pavement. The park and fly lot picks me up at my vehicle or if I have a ride Im dropped at the door. No uneven pavement in the airport and upon arrival its minimal. Maybe the walk at the rental car lot to find my car or from the parking lot to inside the hotel when I park. Basically 99% of my utilization is indoors or on even pavement. So even if Im using a big bag (very rarely) its woth the hassle to have those smooth wheels.
Not sure how Star uses her luggage, but travel comforts are always so personal and vary from person to person

Trying to save money at the moment so didn’t get an IRK. But I’m experiencing mild regret anyway that something I ordered a week before the Mehrathon still hasn’t arrived but people’s IRKs already have!
Anyhow… The moral of the story is: you don’t have to buy an IRK to experience regret.

@djslack the smart watch is pink and rose gold so a little bit not my style. If I’d have read the labels on the back this was clearly indicated.
@djslack I got one of those comforters in an Irk and I really like it because it’s not synthetic fabrics, so it’s a lot more breathable. Only downside is the white shows ALL the cat hair. What’s the trim color on yours?

@Kyeh it’s like a light dove gray and white. Probably not terrible for most of the dog hair we have, the vast majority of it is light brown or white.

The massager seems brand new. And it works, so of course the first thing I did was put it below my collar bone to make my voice sound funny. The dog is scared of it, But she’s also afraid of cardboard boxes, so I’m not surprised.
The backup battery that came in the wallet also works.
Mine came today.
90 TENS electrode pads (industry-standard 3.5mm snap-on connectors) so they fit a lot of things. These may be the new trackrs as someone else got a ton of them recently too (the last irk I think). If you want them they are yours free for postage. Apparently they are re-usable 25 or 30 times.
EcoEgg Laundry egg. I prefer laundry soap.
New purse with a rechargeable battery. Has Stein Mart tag so meh must have bought out a bunch of their stuff since they seen to be going out of business (our one store closed several years ago). It’s your basic black small purse. Haven’t tested the battery. That will have to wait until this weekend.
The other purse is Adrienne Vittadini Signature Collection Domed cross body with lock. Very ugly but new. Some are actually selling on ebay so at least a few people like them.
I don’t use purses like this so they will be give away or sell items.

So far, these IRKs are turning out to be remarkably random and overall not junk; dare we hope that the TrackRs and craft paint have at last been exhausted?

Got my IRK-nothing to be disappointed about this one. Main item was Cuisinart food processor which appears to sell for over $ 200. Other things were 2x red pants and 2x grey top, black bag and a couple other misc things.

@caffeineguy Gotten a couple of similar IRKs where misc stuff has been shoved in the item’s box that was sent to me like this time and all the items were new, untouched and worked. Checked this one out and the electric cord still had the twist tie still around it and was still wrapped in cellophane-the usual sign it hadn’t been used before.

My IRK arrived. The large towel will be useful despite the fact that the loom ran out of white thread in one section. It gives the towel character. Something that is missing from towels that pass QA.
The bag is nice. The 1 amp USB car chargers are not so useful. My adult children don’t use professional barbers, so the hair clippers may become useful if one of theirs breaks. The purse will be gifted or donated.
The laundry egg is filled with enzymes and regret.

This IRK was so awful I think I’m finally done buying them all together.
My $10 IRK came today, had the lovely black and silver bag, a giant pair of sweat pants with slacks styling, a pair of men’s boxers, the car charger 2-pack and an amazon return broken Comfort Zone indoor/outdoor halogen heater. The bulb is broken and I can’t tell if it’s replaceable, although it could be replaceable and still a bad idea to try it. I ordered the sidedeal one too, so we’ll see if that’s something I should have done last meh-rathon when people were getting luggage and pan sets. I will eventually take a picture (and of my last one, since I never got around to it and it was better [assuming that robo vac works]).

I just had my house burn down, and while we do have insurance, they’re fighting us every step of the way, haven’t paid us, and we’re still starting over, from scratch.
I got beautiful, oven safe, non scratch Ninja cookware!! This is far better cookware than I owned before, (with 1 dented pan), a sonic toothbrush that I desperately need, electrodes for a tens unit, and my bag. Also a nice leather wallet, and a meh shirt that fits me!!

They swore they were going to write a book on how to navigate all the hoops you have to jump through after the trauma of experiencing losing your house to a fire. Insurance, contractors, professional cleaners for smoke damage on things that did not get burnt but has smoke damage…so much. I wish they had written that book, I bet there are some out there though. I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re going through. I’m so sorry. When I lived in an apartment, 2 buildings in the complex burn down and I was always afraid mine was next so I kept a laundry basket of essentials near the window incase it happened lol. A fire is one of my worst fears. I’m so glad you got some nice pots and pans and a good toothbrush. Hopefully things get easier with the insurance company.

@werehatrack we are wintering in CA this year. At home in the woods in MN they have a large catio where they can watch the turkeys, squirrels, woodchucks, bear (though they run in when they see one) and such. We are in apartments here in CA, but we have a small yard. I built a catio out of two plant stands, lined the shelves with carpet and covered it in chicken wire. They love it. Now they can listen to the cars zooming by, sirens, etc…all the things they don’t get at home. haha BUT they would not get outside at home in minus 40 weather.

) in my home and just yesterday THAT discussion came up as I was putting some yellow bananas in a brown paper bag to ripen up for banana bread! YUM!
IMO, a banana isn’t ready until it’s at least one third covered in brown spots but obviously I DON’T need to tell YOU that!
I’m thinking you might have someone in your home who ONLY likes unripened bananas and gives you a hard time about waiting for them to ripen up, AKA covered in brown spots!

Currently doing science on the mug. It says it will heat/keep your beverage at 122°F. I started with 400g of 65° water, and I’m taking measurements every 10 minutes. After 20 minutes, we’re up to 77°. Stay tuned for more science!

They are cool in the fact that they’re made from bamboo powder, I really like that about them. I just lots of bowls. I have my main set I use all the time with rubber bottoms do they don’t move. My glass serving set with lids and my Martha Stewart set in the basement (I refuse to get rid of, I love those bowls) that I’m trying to incorporate upstairs. So I’m set on bowls. Well, let me tell you about Christmas in our house growing up…
Anticipation was always the word of the day. From my youngest memory (around 3-4 years old) we had to wait until late in the day, after dinner to open gifts. We opened our stockings first thing in the morning but nothing else. We always hosted Christmas and my parents wanted my grandparents to enjoy watching us opening gifts. That’s the reason we waited ALL DAY to open gifts! Even to this day both my sister and I PREFER waiting until after dinner! We like having something to look forward to!

@rcwbbb My S.O. ordered one of those iTouch watches to evaluate as a possible replacement for a failed Fitbit Versa. That experiment ended very quickly when the iTouch failed to pair with his phone. He sprung for an Apple watch instead, having given up on Fitbit.
@werehatrack The one thing I’ve consistently read in reviews is that Fitbits seems to have a life of about 1 to 1-1/2 years. My experience with the trackers has been at the longer end.

The anticipation of waiting to open my IRK was as big as the regret!

For two people who have breathing issues both of us were THRILLED to get this super sized Happi air purifier, model number KJ500. We were even more excited when we figured out the first error code was because the filter cover wasn’t on all the way. However, frustration quickly took over when we couldn’t figure out the second error code E1. The frustration soon turned to regret along with many ugly thoughts and words when I couldn’t find help anywhere. The YouTube videos were great but not for our issue and the email address for help in the owners manual is no longer valid!

It would appear that E1 is a reset error? At least something I saw indicated that. Here is how you reset it:
“hold down the power and UV light buttons for about 10 seconds. Your Happi will beep once and the lights on top will flash indicating it has been reset.”
Worth a try anyway… hopefully this helps.

The next few months are going to be tough. Getting my mom settled somewhere. Trying to go through insurance, social security, and wrestle control of finances from her that she doesn’t understand. I do have power of attorney (thank you, Dad!) But with her dementia, her attitude towards me goes from “You’re more handy than a pocket on a shirt!” to “Quit trying to boss me around!”

Yes, it’s really tough! Sometimes I tell my mother she needs to do this or that and she says “Yes, ma’am” very sarcastically; other times she thanks me profusely. Does your city or county have any older adult services and programs? I wish you the best of luck dealing with these things.

I know, who has a plug next to the toilet? Probably the same people that put a phone next to it lol. Just trying to give you a laugh. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. My thoughts are with you. If your mom truly has dementia and can’t function on her own (like finance wise) you can take her to court and get conservatorship. I was in the process of it with my father years and years ago after he hit his head very bad but he got better. I have POA now that he’s older and has lots of medical issues. You could talk to your mom about POA when she’s “your mom” (not in her dementia state) and have the paperwork filled out and ready and do what it takes to become official if she agrees. In MI both parties need to sign in from of a public notary and have two written doctors note validating the persons need for a POA.

A regular nursing home, an assisted living which is currently at capacity and memory care. The last one is an old nursing home from the 60s that I dont think they have updated since. My sister and I do call her daily and she has neighbors checking in on her. They know to call us if something goes wrong.
@Star2236 i do have POA, both financial and medical. It’s just a matter to talking to her doctor and wrestling control of everything from her. She still insisting on being in charge.

Its not a fun situation especially if you live that far away and she lives alone independently. She probably feels she “is” very independent especially managing and living by herself. Have you thought about moving her closer to you? Since you already have POA I would make the time to take her to her drs and get those letters. It’s not about what she wants, it’s about what’s best for her. Maybe she’ll also listen to the drs about the situation and be more compliant with you to. With my dad I can tell him things till I’m blue in the face and he won’t listen but my mom (his ex wife) or a dr or nurse only has to say it once and he’s on board. It irritates the shit out of me. Parents don’t want to listen to their children, they know it means their getting old and admitting to their children let alone themself that they can’t do the things they used to be able to, well he’ll might as well freeze over. I could tell you so many things my dad does that I just shake my head at but he has to figure it out for himself, just like a teenager you can’t tell them anything either. I’m not in any way trying to tell you what to do, I just know what’s worked for me.

I am not scare of them but respect their power and would not voluntarily mess with them or provoke them like some idiots do. I did have to coexist with them close up on a job years ago and before all this cancer crap when hadn’t yet sold my various boats (canoe, kayak, 14’ sailboat) I’d see them in the reservoir here as I’d paddle or sail close to the shore. They’d always go away from me when they saw me.
When I used to take kids in jail canoeing across the state of FL we had many alligators encounters. Most were eventless like when ~17’ one being scared and went under our canoe at right angles bumping it’s back along the keep - we felt each bump. There were cute little 2 and 3 foot babies sinking to watch us with just their eyes but the entire back half of their body above water, seeing us go by and going into the water from the shore, paralleling us so both of us are going down the river… But I accidentally hit one in the face with my canoe paddling. He had sunk down completely, in the brown water (high tannic acid makes it brown), paddling I hit him in the face, and he bit the end of my paddle off. Another one, run into by a canoe (again sunk under so no one saw him) bit the end of the aluminum canoe, fortunately couldn’t bit through it but left impressive dents.
In March one year (so cold, they are cold blooded so that makes them groggy fortunately) I had spring break college students with me including one from France and one from Holland (they were in the same canoe). They rounded a bend, saw one sunning on the shore, they turned to head to the shore, both got their cameras out, stood up in the canoe to take photos, and I rounded the corner just as the broadsided it as it was going into the water. They were incredibly lucky it was so cold (ice in the canoes in the morning) as likely that would have not ended well for them otherwise had it been summer.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh wow! That’s scary! I think they’re cool in their own little prehistoric looking way, but I have no desire to be that close to one in the wild. I don’t think I could enjoy any water activities where they could be, lol! Especially a canoe or kayak. Nope.
@k4evryng @Kyeh For the most part they aren’t aggressive. They mostly waddle into the water and sink below the surface swimming away. Grant you I wouldn’t swim in the same water they are in (or water moccasins are in either - we had poisonous water snakes in FL as well) but for the most part they don’t bother you on land when you camp - too many of us and that scares them off. It is poisonous snakes I worried about more on land. As instructors we’d land, get out first, hit the bushes with our canoe paddles to scare off anything in them.
Twice I have been way too close to poisonous snakes. Once we passed by a copperhead coiled and swaying back and forth. I was at the end of the line of students and the only one who saw it about 6’ away. The other time we had been stepping over a log, I looked back and saw a rattle snake under the log we all had just stepped over. In both cases it ended well.
The most annoying creature we ran into on the river was a raccoon who tried to steal a garbage bag full of food. He grabbed it and started running off, dragging it (camped on a platform with swampy land around it although in this case the section it was on was solid). A couple of us ran after it and wrestled it back. We had to store all the bags of food in the outhouse to keep that little bugger out of our food.

@Star2236 it’s a really fun hobby…when I can find the time to actually do it, lol! I’ve made wallets, purses, totes, belts, journal covers, and key fobs…mostly just smaller items because I’m still learning and don’t want to mess up a big piece of expensive leather.

That is a nice/pretty purse and wallet! I’m not a fan of faux leather either but I’d definitely use the wallet! I still remember the croc head purse that my grandmother gave me back in the 70s. I was just a little girl so I never actually used it but when I hear crocodile I always think of it!
