Sphero.com has R2D2s for $99 with a free force band. I have wanted one of these guys since they came out. BB-8 is $79 with a free force band if you don’t have one yet.
If you need a spare vacuum for the cabin, a kid who’s moving out on their own, the office, etc, this seems like a no-brainer. Sure, it’s no Dyson, but for twenty eight bucks?
Fun fact: In the UK they don’t vacuum, they “do the hoovering”.
For example, Optics Planet sells the CMR-201 for $100. They’re currently offering a 15% discount (code LS15 on checkout), no tax, free shipping. With the CT BOGO offer, it’s basically $42.50 each for 2 CMR-201 lasers. Plus, this offer still qualifies for CT’s “free batteries for life” offer as well.
@ruouttaurmind damn, this would be a great deal if my pistol had a rail…They do sell a lasergrip for it, but it costs more than the gun itself did. Maybe I’ll get them anyway…I can always get another gun
@ACraigL I got this lesser version at Christmas Tree Shops. They rang up at only $7.49 in the store, so I got two pair, because why not. They’re $39.99 at Amazon.
Who doesn’t love Bluetooth headphones! Well, me. But besides me, it seems like everyone up in here is drawn to BT headphones like a prepper hoards bullets.
J&L, via Amazon is offering two pairs of BT earbud style headphones for $16.56. Here’s how: Add the J&L-100 red BT headphones to your cart, then add the black J&L-200 “Swan” heaphones to your cart. Price on checkout is reduced to $16.56 total for the pair.
The 100 has a reasonable 3.8 star rating with over 1100 reviews. The 200 is a newish product with only 141 reviews (identical item, same seller, different listing), but also maintains a solid 3.8 star rating.
The 100 is a traditional in-the-ear earbud, while the 200 is the sort that loops over the ear. Two styles, try them both, give the one you like least to a friend.
Another BT headphone deal for ya today. Today it’s the Totu X9 Sport for $5 and free shipping with Prime. (use promo code O6EHK2O8 on checkout for the price discount) FIVE BUCKS. 'Nuff said.
@therealjrn@f00l I would love to say we can all be a purple frogg togg group, but I am fairly certain even the bright purple is not going to ensure this stays MINE! My son stole my last frogg togg poncho and my daughter is evil!
@mikibell I received this today. It basically looks like a purple Hefty bag with a zipper. The really fun part was trying to fold it down small enough to get it back into the plastic storage pouch.
Today only, Friday, March 9th, eBay is offering 20% off your purchase of $25 or more with discount code PSPRING20.
Usually these offers are for select sellers only. This discount code works for all sellers in most categories. Visit the offer details page here for the few exclusions. Stuff which is usually excluded from most discount offers (like Apple products for example) IS INCLUDED in the 20% discount!
Also, this is a one-time use discount, however you can purchase multiple items from multiple sellers simply by adding everything you want into your cart and checking out one time. Also, you can combine lower priced items to reach the $25 minimum.
@ruouttaurmind score! Every recent weekend long 20% offer with limited sellers they have run, the thing I wanted has gone out of stock. I was able to get one today. Thanks!
We’ve been on it for several years starting with DTE/GE/DOE doing an energy usage visibility pilot program at the beginning.
I eyeballed it at the start and it looked like if you did not change your behavior, the DPP resulted in pretty much unchanged bills. However, if you modified your behavior to use heavy electrical devices off peak, it results in savings. A no-brainer in our case.
A caution: DTE can and does implement up to 20 “Critical Peak” days per year where the rate from 3pm-7pm goes to 95 cents per KWH. I don’t recall more than 5-9 in a summer tho. If you’re not home, no big deal. If you are, crank up the AC before 3pm.;-)
Click on “SmartCurrents” at the following link. (There is also a detailed DPP explanation on that page.)
If you haven’t fussed with 4K streaming yet, don’t bother. For most of us, the difference is barely discernible. Not to mention the bandwidth requirements to maintain a 4K stream is huge. Wasted data if you ask me.
@f00l Last month I got a 65” 4K TV. It’s even wasted on that screen. To compare, I connected my 1080p Fire Stick and queued up a Netflix vid on the Fire Stick, and on the TV’s 4K Netflix app and switching between the two, the difference is insignificant. Same for Amazon Video. But the bandwidth required for the 4K stream is dramatically greater. Maybe on a 75” or 80” screen it may be more noticeable.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ruouttaurmind I remember they made an HD stick right after that. The orginal is 1080p (hd), but right after that they came out with the HD stick - just to sucker people into the supposed upgrade.
Original https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZV9RDKK/ref=fs_ods_smp_tk
They have made the HD stick into the 4K stick now.
@mfladd Mine is also the original 1080p non-voice remote. I’ve been quite happy with it. Although after they upgraded the OS last year it’s become a bit sluggish, and can’t do Vudu or Google Video anymore. I’ve read about side loading those apps, but haven’t bothered. I’ve been using the game console to stream from those sources. Now with the new TV, those apps are built in.
I’m won’t be in the vicinity or any of their locations for a while, so I can’t take advantage of this.
If they’d have had a location in LA, I might have been able to have somebody do it for me, but I won’t attempt to persuade them to drive to Orange County just for this.
I blame @KittySprinkles, because there were 10 earlier (I still have a page open reflecting that), but I never placed the order, and now there is 1 left in stock.
I’m in trouble. Apparently they restocked on AIY Voice Kits in the Micro Center near me.
So now, besides getting another Pi Zero, and Pi Zero W, I’m also probably going to be buying 5 AIY Voice kits which I don’t particularly need.
(On the other hand, if I get a few filler items, I can get my cart to $30, and then just use a $5 off coupon. Though that would mean spending more money than I would want to, as currently my cart is at $22, and I’d be adding more stuff to save money, when I could just keep my cart as is, and save $3.)
@PlacidPenguin Thanks for the thought. If they didn’t jack up the price for more than one zero W I’d say sure to one of those, its case and a voice kit, but since they don’t want you loading up that’s okay. Thanks for thinking of me, though.
@PlacidPenguin I see the wisdom of the $30 order. For $3 more you get $8 of merch. But isn’t that always the conundrum when trying not to be penny wise, pound foolish.
Because I’ve barely bought anything from Meh (11 things in 1292 days), I feel like I can waste some money on a foolish purchase.
Looking at Micro Center’s website, some items would be ridiculous not to buy. I mean, I could get 4 retractable micro-USB cables for $0.04 total. I don’t even use micro-USB on my daily driver phone, although I could always just use an adapter.
Dropped the voice kits though (since I don’t need them). Contemplated buying a Pi 3 Model B, but then I realized that I could get it even cheaper from eBay.
(If only these were Type A Male to Type A Female. I lost mine recently in my house.)
If the closest store would have been closer, I’d probably waste more time there, so I’m really thankful that it’s a decent drive.
@PlacidPenguin@ruouttaurmind Then I “eat out” breakfast burritos quite a bit. No hash brown patties (those are a little gross) but I’ve been known to eat them occasionally when the grease is fresh.
Those commies over at Penzey’s Spices are offering a “$7.47 value” sample pack of their Tsardust Memories spice blend this weekend.
Visit www.penzeys.com, and select the coupon item you’d like to receive by entering “28599C” into the “apply code” field at checkout. Standard shipping rates apply. Offer ends midnight Sunday, March 18, 2018.
There are still shipping and handling charges on orders under $30 (over $30 ships free). But, through Sunday, they’ve lowered the shipping fee to just $3.95.
And they have some other stuff on sale:
please don’t forget our regularly $3.45 Granulated Garlic for just $1, and $2 Italian Herb. Both are such good deals and such good additions to the things you cook for those you love.
@therealjrn Penzey’s is such a dangerous place for cooks. Everything I’ve tried is good, even though I gave the super hot stuff away. I’ve bought their gift boxes and individual bottles, and the goodies in each package are a delight, too. Pins, stickers, samples… I follow them on Facebook, too. You and @kdemo might want to look there.
@OldCatLady I believe you got me going to Penzey’s too through one of the deals threads. Good stuff so far. I meant to put some of their swag in my Meh exchange boxes but realized too late that I forgot.
Audible is offering a one year membership with all 12 book credits up front, plus a free Echo Dot for $100.
I did this deal last time they offered it back in the fall and thought I was after havin’ a bargain. Now I feel gypped that I didn’t get an Echo Dot too!
@ruouttaurmind Tempting. I haven’t been able to get my Google Home (bought from meh) to connect to my “smart” light bulbs. Maybe this device can. OTOH, I’ve been unable to make most of these bulbs even connect to their own stupid hub. Lot of money wasted on tech that won’t work.
@moondrake If you’re a fan of audiobooks, this is a reasonable price for 12 titles. The Echo Dot is a bonus. If you’re not really into audiobooks and really just want the Dot… not as much a deal.
If you’re only interested in an Alexa device, consider their current offer on an Echo: $100, plus $25 savings with offer code AUD25ECHO (may only be valid for current Audible members. If so, sign up for the 30 day free trial of Audible then use the code, then cancel Audible).
The echo is a discount code. Add your selected (new, not refurb or warehouse deals) echo to your cart and use the discount code AUD25ECHO on checkout.
The Audible/Dot deal pops up on the main page at Audible.com. If you have a current membership, the offer is not available to you, but if you logout and go to the home page, you’ll see the details. Quick solution: create a burner email address, sign up for a new Audible membership under the new email addy.
@moondrake I wonder if the Prime offer expired. My Prime membership expired on Monday (I chose not to renew) so it’s showing full price for me. But over the last eight or 10 days Dot was $35/new.
@f00l@ruouttaurmind I really thought about it. But I have had about a dozen audio books on my tablet for years and never listened to any of them. I’ve had about 70 ebooks and never read one. When I read, I read books. When I listen to storytelling, I prefer visual media. It’s good to have something to make me look up from what I’m doing from time to time.
You will learn to love audiobooks. Then you might make them a part of your entire non-driving day.
(PS. Play them at 1.25 or 1.5 speed. Skip tablets and alexa devices and put them on a phone where they belong. Get a few pairs of genuine LG Tone headsets, any generation.)
(I wouldn’t listen to them either, if they were on a tablet. But I got addicted back during the cassettes era.)
@f00l A long commute to work is exactly what got me into audiobooks. With a few exceptions, it’s really the only time I listen, but now I can’t imagine driving without a book.
Get a few pairs of genuine LG Tone headsets
I got one of those Bluetooth to FM modulators for each of my vehicles (obvs unnecessary if you have a newer vehicle with integrated BT) and just listen over the stereo. Much better sound quality than any headphones, and a bit safer for driving in traffic.
I listen when I’m not driving, using the headphones.
Unless something I’m doing engages mind, I’m listening whether driving or on my feet, unless interval is brief, or something norable I need/wish to really pay attention to is happening.
So whenever standing in line or shopping or housekeeping or similar …
Oriental Trading Company, free shipping on any order thru tomorrow. Arts and craft supplies, holiday decorations and religious stuff. Lots of stuff on sale. Got kids? This is a deal for you.
For example, a dozen diy wood birdhouses for $12, a dozen diy wind chimes for $10, 24 watch it grow seed pots for $6, diy kites $10 a dozen, etc. Plenty of craft stuff for adults as well.
After seeing Woot sell an 8V Porter Cable impact driver a few times, I bought the Worx one last month. A little more power (~19-ft.lbs vs. ~10.), but the real plus is a flexible handle. The P-C wasn’t much smaller than the Bosch 12V I already have. https://www.ebay.com/itm/WX270L-WORX-8V-Cordless-Impact-Driver/253427531948
@narfcake Thanks for the detailed post! I think I’m gonna grab one of those chainsaws this time. Already have one from HF, but sometimes a buddy will help as I trim trees. He could use one to section the fallen limbs as I cut them from the tree. Right now he uses my HF sawzall and it’s slow going for anything larger than about 1" diameter.
I just saw that Sunday, March 25 is the last day for the 12 credits for $100 deal. So you can turn that into: 18 books and a Alexa Dot for a hunnert bucks. That’s definitely a deal.
This is one of the titles available in this Audible B2G3 Sale. If you’re a fan of non-space near-future post apocalyptic sci-fi, I highly recommend. Definitely one of my favorite books.
eBay 15% off everything. Use code PREPSPRING on checkout. Usual excluded categories apply. $25 minimum purchase, $50 max discount. Valid 3/27 1-8pm PT.

Hoover factory outlet, via eBay: Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind Upright Vacuum Cleaner, factory refurbished, for $28, ships for free (after using coupon code PSTARTEARLY on checkout).
If you need a spare vacuum for the cabin, a kid who’s moving out on their own, the office, etc, this seems like a no-brainer. Sure, it’s no Dyson, but for twenty eight bucks?

@ruouttaurmind Now it is $35.99
Crimson Trace is offering a free CMR-201 rail mounted red laser with the purchase of any laser. Apparently requires purchase from an authorized vendor or the offer won’t be honored. Online authorized sellers include Optics Planet, Adorama, Midway and others.
@ruouttaurmind while it’s a good deal, it makes me wonder why lasers are so expensive.
@RiotDemon Agreed. $400 for Crimson Trace 1911 lasergrips is just crazy.
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind
Fitment r&d is not cheap. That said, they are still overpriced and ripe for disruption.
@ruouttaurmind damn, this would be a great deal if my pistol had a rail…They do sell a lasergrip for it, but it costs more than the gun itself did. Maybe I’ll get them anyway…I can always get another gun

Grabbed one! Thx!
@therealjrn @f00l I would love to say we can all be a purple frogg togg group, but I am fairly certain even the bright purple is not going to ensure this stays MINE! My son stole my last frogg togg poncho and my daughter is evil!
@mikibell got one too! Thanks!
@heartny Did you check out this deal?
@Barney Ooh, thank you. Got one! Because purple. And rain.
@mikibell I received this today. It basically looks like a purple Hefty bag with a zipper. The really fun part was trying to fold it down small enough to get it back into the plastic storage pouch.

If you enroll in “Dynamic Peak Pricing” or if you are already a current “Dynamic Peak Pricing” customer.
“Dynamic Peak Pricing” (DPP) bills based upon time of day and day. So you pay lower prices when demand is lower.

@therealjrn You had to tell me about this site?
I don’t know whether to kiss you, or Sous Vide your butt.
@mfladd @therealjrn
If the latter is chosen, could we have a livestream of it?
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin Only properly seasoned, my little Sphenisciforme friend…

@narfcake Just saved $7.50 on my new old Wii. Thanks!
Maximum discount is $50. To maximize your savings, shop for items up to $333.34 in price.
Woot has Kindle Paperwhites, older model refurbished, for $50, only on the app. That’s as cheap as I have seen them.
@sammydog01
Great price!
@f00l @sammydog01 Sold out.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
I my Paperwhite.
@Barney I love mine too.
Audible is offering a one year membership with all 12 book credits up front, plus a free Echo Dot for $100.
I did this deal last time they offered it back in the fall and thought I was after havin’ a bargain. Now I feel gypped that I didn’t get an Echo Dot too!
PS: Offer ends 3/25
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind
If somebody REALLY just wanted the Dot, there are some nice listings on Swappa.
@moondrake @PlacidPenguin Listings start at $40 used. Amz current price is $35 for Prime members, new, shipped free.
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind
$40 new.
Besides, I never technically said it was an AWESOME deal.
@ruouttaurmind Link? I’m not seeing that price.
@ruouttaurmind Found it, in white. Perfect.
@moondrake On the Echo, or the Dot/Audible offer?
The echo is a discount code. Add your selected (new, not refurb or warehouse deals) echo to your cart and use the discount code AUD25ECHO on checkout.
The Audible/Dot deal pops up on the main page at Audible.com. If you have a current membership, the offer is not available to you, but if you logout and go to the home page, you’ll see the details. Quick solution: create a burner email address, sign up for a new Audible membership under the new email addy.
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind
AUD25ECHO has expired from what I’ve seen.
@moondrake @PlacidPenguin Just came in this mornings email. Expires 3/25.
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind
Whoops. Tried the code on Amazon’s checkout (not that I’d buy it anyways).
@PlacidPenguin It’s for current Audible members. If you don’t have an Audible membership the code will be invalid.
@ruouttaurmind The dot. But for $35 it is a refurb. Got in my cart, just adding a few things.
@moondrake I wonder if the Prime offer expired. My Prime membership expired on Monday (I chose not to renew) so it’s showing full price for me. But over the last eight or 10 days Dot was $35/new.
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind
Hey people!
The value here is the audiobooks at that price. Not the Alexa device!
(My preferences are showing. )
@f00l @ruouttaurmind I really thought about it. But I have had about a dozen audio books on my tablet for years and never listened to any of them. I’ve had about 70 ebooks and never read one. When I read, I read books. When I listen to storytelling, I prefer visual media. It’s good to have something to make me look up from what I’m doing from time to time.
@moondrake @ruouttaurmind
Start driving a whole lot.
I got one of those Bluetooth to FM modulators for each of my vehicles (obvs unnecessary if you have a newer vehicle with integrated BT) and just listen over the stereo. Much better sound quality than any headphones, and a bit safer for driving in traffic.
@ruouttaurmind
I listen when I’m not driving, using the headphones.
Unless something I’m doing engages mind, I’m listening whether driving or on my feet, unless interval is brief, or something norable I need/wish to really pay attention to is happening.

Worx 8" pole saw (new) for $62.40. Unlike other pole saws, the extension pole detaches to use as a small chain saw.

After seeing Woot sell an 8V Porter Cable impact driver a few times, I bought the Worx one last month. A little more power (~19-ft.lbs vs. ~10.), but the real plus is a flexible handle. The P-C wasn’t much smaller than the Bosch 12V I already have.

I won’t put them up against DeWalt or Milwaukee, and I don’t need a set myself, but for home use, $76 new for drill + impact + two batteries is about as good as it gets.

Audible: Buy 3 books for 2 credits, going on now at Audible.com
I just saw that Sunday, March 25 is the last day for the 12 credits for $100 deal. So you can turn that into: 18 books and a Alexa Dot for a hunnert bucks. That’s definitely a deal.
This is one of the titles available in this Audible B2G3 Sale. If you’re a fan of non-space near-future post apocalyptic sci-fi, I highly recommend. Definitely one of my favorite books.
