It seems like they will remove the post a while after each medal.
And technically, unless Hershey’s changes it, you can see the link on their social media pages without an account (that’s how I got it, since I don’t use Facebook/Twitter).
I’d post direct link to coupon, but it was marked as no longer available.
@PlacidPenguin The link worked fine for me but I realized that candy bar sounded disgusting and left my coupon for someone less picky. (And I like candy corn.)
@therealjrn Invariably, someone will whine and complain that they thought it’ll be good until the midnight following the 12th – and I rather that someone blame the goat instead of me.

Better not tell you now
Woot’s end dates/times are at the beginning midnight of the day, not the end midnight of the day. Other Wooters have complained about such confusion to them before.
It’s why I wrote the end date as such in my post above.
Zmodo, via Amazon, is offering this 8 camera wifi NVR system for $140 (after clicking “apply $100 coupon” before placing the item in your cart.
The cameras are 720p, the NVR has 1080p HDMI video output port. THE NVR ITSELF IS NOT WIFI, AND REQUIRES A WIRED CONNECTION TO YOUR ROUTER, OR TO A WIRELESS AP/EXTENDER. Included are 4 weather resistant outdoor wifi cameras and 4 indoor dome type wifi cameras, 8 channel NVR with 500GB hard drive, mounting brackets, power adapters, etc.
This is basically the same system I installed on the farm for Mom. The only difference is I got 8 outdoor cameras. Otherwise, identical. Based on my experience, it’s impossible to install this system without creating a Zmodo cloud account, however, once you get the NVR and cameras configured, the system will function without internet access.
In the case of Mom’s farm, I set up a dedicated, standalone router and a couple of repeater/range extenders. The NVR is connected to her TV (for video output) and I connected a wireless mouse to the NVR so she can access preferences, recordings, notifications, etc. In this configuration method, the system DOES NOT send push notifications to email or the Zmodo app. It’s essentially a standalone video monitoring and recording device. If you want push notifications, you’ll need to give it access to phone home via the interwebs.
I’ve ordered one, and plan to replace the mismatched cameras I have installed now. If you consider just the cameras alone, I’m getting eight 720p wifi cameras for less than twelve bucks a piece! Plus a free NVR! This is a sizzling bargain IMHO. Definitely not a top shelf system, but it works well enough at a bargain price.
Free first week (3 meals for 2 people) of Hello Fresh is available. I have a few codes to give away. If folks would please “whisper” back to this post with their name and email I’ll get a code sent to you via the hellofresh.com website. When I joined, they charged my payment method $1 but then refunded it after shipping.
@narfcake Just nabbed one. It’s the one power tool I never really got around to getting (well I do have a pole saw), because I only seemed to need one every once in a while. For less than $30? No brainer. Thanks!
@ACraigL I already have a Worx WG309 10" pole saw, previously purchased with an eBay coupon, and it has performed quite well.
This model has a number of negative reviews complaining about the tensioner, but also enough positives about it not being an issue, so hopefully being a refurb, these got fixed. Can’t argue about the price any which way – my local thrift stores don’t even price this low.
(Good for them that someone pays $30+ for a used electric, though!)
@ACraigL@narfcake N41, Every now and then I need a chainsaw around the property. Even though I hate that phase “no brainer” it is indeed an easy decision at this price.
@ACraigL@narfcake I bought a cheap Harbor Freight electric chainsaw a couple of years ago. For as seldom as I need a chainsaw, spending 30 minutes fussing with a gas saw trying to get it started was a major PITA. The electric has done everything I’ve needed it for and without all that shoulder exhausting string pulling to get it fired up. I still have the gas saw in the garage, but haven’t ever regretted switching to electric.
I have an electric Makita chainsaw that will cut thru most anything. I love electric, except when it comes to leaf blowers. The only electric ones of those that are any good are quite pricey. Unless you just want to blow off a deck. But a yard stack full of leaves…not so much.
@ACraigL@mfladd@narfcake@ruouttaurmind
I’m such a coward when it comes to chainsaws, but I think I could really use one at my mom’s… I guess it’s my house now. There are two trees that need some major trimming and my hand pruner (saw) just isn’t cutting through some of the bigger branches.
I’m pretty handy with tools – do you think I can use one without hurting myself too badly?
@ACraigL@mfladd@narfcake@ruouttaurmind
Well, I see that they are sold out, but I’d still like to hear your opinions about operating an electric chain saw.
@mfladd How heavy are these things? With my pole pruner, I can cut through the branches okay, but cutting them up, once they hit the ground, just takes forever. I thought a chain saw would make things easier for me.
@Barney Not too heavy. What’s nice about them is you can remove the saw from the pole to cut up the branches once they are down. Their small size makes them a little less intimidating than larger saws. But any saw will do some major damage if mishandled. The electric are a lot quieter than gas operated making them appear less intimidating also. I would go with an electric pruning chainsaw if I were you.
Just remember they become more heavy and difficult to control the longer you extend the pole. But trials with it not operating will give you a better idea of what length you can extend it to and be comfortable.
@Barney I’d say if you can comfortably lift and manipulate… let’s say 20 pounds, you would be fine operating an electric chainsaw. They don’t weigh 20 pounds. Probably closer to 5 pounds. But you need to make sure you have enough strength and dexterity to be in control of the tool rather than just being dragged along for the ride. My 75 year old, 130lb mother uses one on the farm to clean up after storms and such.
@Barney The WG309 (with extension pole) is what I purchased previously. Unlike a good number of pole saws, it can disconnect from the pole and work as a regular (smaller) chainsaw.
@Barney PS: they’re exceptional for hacking up those limbs on the ground. I know many of the pole saws can be removed from the pole for this purpose as well, but the extra torque, width and length of a 14” hand held saw cuts quickly and makes short work of even large branches.
And everyone will kindly refrain from the obvious “pole” and “longer is better” remarks please.
@ruouttaurmind@narfcake@mfladd
You’ve given me food for thought. I really don’t want to spend a lot of money on this because this is just going to be a one time trimming. (I hope to sell the house before it falls apart anymore than it has lately.) And @ruouttaurmind, I would never make fun of the size of your pole.
@ACraigL@CaptAmehrican@narfcake Oh shit yes, a definite, solid unblame for sure. He’s been busy goato-shopping so I don’t know where to post it. Some goat started this trend of skipping around on their little goat hooves…hmmm…
@Barney@narfcake I got the saw today. Came in a really beat up box, and drenched in oil inside, leaking to the outside. The saw body is completely covered in oil. Not real happy with this as is.
Going to try to clean it up/test it, but I’m in the “you get what you pay for” zone right now. I blame me.
@Barney So good news! I found some chainsaw oil and tested it out properly. Bad news – It leaks oil like a sieve. Guess I have refund coming my way. Oh well.
@ACraigL@Barney We have one of those big mail box things from Amazon at the gas station near our house. You can drop stuff off for returns there. Cool idea. Except all of the boxes were full the one time I had a broken thing.
@narfcake Looks like they’re sending another one, but their response doesn’t have me wholly confident.
“Thank you for letting us know this. The warehouse tries to drain as much oil out the saw as possible before shipping it. We can definitely send you a replacement. We advise to keep the saw in an upright position as all of our saws have some leakage. Can you try to put more oil in it, place it in an upright position and let us know if it still leaks?”
@ACraigL@narfcake Mine came today. I was in a big brown box with a couple pieces of brown paper for packing. No bags or anything, just the pieces knocking around. No oil that I can see, everything looks OK.
@narfcake Got the replacement yesterday, and the box looked even worse on the outside. Practically an accordion.
But no oil inside! Will test this weekend, but I think it’ll be OK. Bonus – replacement parts. Both the saw base and chain are now backups from the one that leaked. Yay!
I own 3 other Morakniv knives. Good quality at a very reasonable price. These are not Benchmade or Cold Steel, but there is a reason they’re so highly rated at Amz (this particular model is 4.7/406)
At this price they’re going to sell out, so don’t drag your feet if you need a decent toolbox or camp tool. For five bucks you can abuse the heck out of it, leave it in the rain and forget it at the campsite and never look back.
@Barney A knife is always a handy thing to keep in the toolbox, or glove compartment in the car, or just use it to open all those meh.com orders flooding your doorstep.
I ordered three. One each for the toolboxes in my vehicles. Always handy for cutting cord/rope/tape, stripping wires, fighting your way out of a zombie horde, whatever.
@Barney haha…shit, it’s imgur, but I made the necessary changes that someone suggested to no avail. But as long as you saw it thats all that matters. Fuck everyone else
@Barney@ruouttaurmind Got my knife yesterday. Surprisingly weighty for a $5 knife and that thing is sharp! Glad someone said not to test it with your finger. I put it to some paper and it cut it like butter. Great buy!
@ruouttaurmind I failed at keeping up with this thread or I would have bought this. I got the chisel for Christmas and it’s an impressively sturdy and sharp piece.
@ACraigL@ruouttaurmind My knife arrived here, in the land of Oz, about 5 miles from my house. Now it’s in San Francisco. Maybe someone is trying to tell me that I shouldn’t have a knife?
I’m having a hard time finding a link to the deal (it popped up a notification on my phone from the Kindle app), but Amazon is having a sale on Kindle editions of mysteries and thrillers, and it looks like all the Ian Fleming James Bond novels are $1.99 each.
Sentio.com is having a sale on the most successful hardware kickstarter item in kickstarter history. Or something like that. Anyway, it’s a dumb laptop shell that becomes smart when you plug in an android phone. $20 off $199. After what seems like a decade, they are finally about to ship and have a couple thousand units unclaimed. Actually now down to about 800 left. I backed it and have enjoyed following their journey to mass production. Smart team that has been very transparent about their missteps. Anyway I have a backer code for another $25 off (basically, free shipping) that it looks like I can share if anyone is interested.
@ruouttaurmind yes but…Motorola was one of several attempts at this (Palm Foleo anyone?) Common fatal flaw, IMO, was lack of a universal interface. Sentio uses off the shelf technology for anything running Android 5.0 or better.
@Frcal@ruouttaurmind I had the Motorola Atrix – and that was the first one with the lapdock accessory. I recall it was hundreds of dollars. By the time it got down to under $100, I was 2 phones past it already so I never go to try it. But I imagine it sucked.

@Barney @narfcake I got the saw today. Came in a really beat up box, and drenched in oil inside, leaking to the outside. The saw body is completely covered in oil. Not real happy with this as is.
Going to try to clean it up/test it, but I’m in the “you get what you pay for” zone right now. I blame me.
@ACraigL You mean I’ve finally done something right? Hope you can get it cleaned up and working.
@Barney Seems to work well enough. Despite looking like it was polished by a pepperoni pizza.
It’s out of oil, so I’ll need to add that to the cost. I’ve let the seller know of the condition, I’ll see what, if anything, they come back with.
@Barney So good news! I found some chainsaw oil and tested it out properly. Bad news – It leaks oil like a sieve. Guess I have refund coming my way. Oh well.
@ACraigL Ah, shoot and it’s always such a hassle having to return things.
@ACraigL @Barney We have one of those big mail box things from Amazon at the gas station near our house. You can drop stuff off for returns there. Cool idea. Except all of the boxes were full the one time I had a broken thing.
@ACraigL
Maybe since they sold out, you’ll get a new one in return?
@narfcake Possibly, but I doubt it. If it were me, I’d refund my money and let me keep the broken item. Saves me the hassle both ways.
@narfcake Update: They’re letting me keep the leaky one and sending another gratis. So I’ll basically look the bunny above in a few days.
Kudos to the seller for doing the right thing.
@ACraigL Nice! I got mine in; some oil, but not like soaking wet. Didn’t get around to testing it yet, though.
Packaging was meh level, though. Chainsaw in bags in a big box with no dunnage whatsoever.
@narfcake Same
@ACraigL @narfcake Mine came today. I was in a big brown box with a couple pieces of brown paper for packing. No bags or anything, just the pieces knocking around. No oil that I can see, everything looks OK.

@PlacidPenguin Nope, just the paper. I’ll have to go get some oil today to test it.

I received my Woot order of knives today. Gotta love it when Woot orders are fulfilled by Amazon.
Decent knives. Well worth the price.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind Got my knife yesterday. Surprisingly weighty for a $5 knife and that thing is sharp! Glad someone said not to test it with your finger. I put it to some paper and it cut it like butter. Great buy!
@ACraigL @ruouttaurmind My knife is supposed to be here tomorrow. I hope I don’t hurt myself. I wonder if there is a goat I can blame if I do?
@ruouttaurmind I failed at keeping up with this thread or I would have bought this. I got the chisel for Christmas and it’s an impressively sturdy and sharp piece.
@djslack I sort of regret not getting the chisel. But I need a chisel so seldom…
@ACraigL @ruouttaurmind My knife arrived here, in the land of Oz, about 5 miles from my house. Now it’s in San Francisco. Maybe someone is trying to tell me that I shouldn’t have a knife?
@ACraigL @Barney @ruouttaurmind
@Barney:
Or just move to SF.
Cost of living is about the same in both places, isn’t it?
@ACraigL @Barney @f00l @ruouttaurmind
Under 105k/year is “low income” in some Bay Area communities … so maybe?
@f00l Uh-huh, just like living in the DFW area.
@narfcake, Oh, goody, under 105k. Glad I would still qualify as low income.
@Barney
Yeah, no kid.
DFW is exactly like SF.
Can hardly tell them apart without a GPS fix.
@f00l But is it in living color like the land of Oz?
@Barney
Now and then.
@Barney @f00l

I’m having a hard time finding a link to the deal (it popped up a notification on my phone from the Kindle app), but Amazon is having a sale on Kindle editions of mysteries and thrillers, and it looks like all the Ian Fleming James Bond novels are $1.99 each.
@jqubed Sorry, the knives just sold out.
@jqubed f00l It appears after you buy the James Bond Kindle books, most of their Audible versions are $3.49 or $2.99. Thanks a whole bunch.
@OldCatLady Did you check out the narrators? Check out the narrators.
@sammydog01 Hugh Bonneville, Tom Hiddleston, David Tennant…Wow.Thanks for the heads up. I may buy some more.
@OldCatLady I bought them all!
Because someone still hasn’t sold catshirts here … but as long as a Rutledge (aka ProfHotPants, their art director) gets her pay …

@Frcal Motorola did this… maybe five or six years ago with the Droid lapdock. Didn’t work out well for them.
@ruouttaurmind yes but…Motorola was one of several attempts at this (Palm Foleo anyone?) Common fatal flaw, IMO, was lack of a universal interface. Sentio uses off the shelf technology for anything running Android 5.0 or better.
@Frcal @ruouttaurmind I had the Motorola Atrix – and that was the first one with the lapdock accessory. I recall it was hundreds of dollars. By the time it got down to under $100, I was 2 phones past it already so I never go to try it. But I imagine it sucked.
@ACraigL @ruouttaurmind Sucked it did. I bought a dock from a liquidator and tried it with my nephew’s phone. The cool factor disappeared quickly.
Amazon’s got a pretty good sale going on select EA games… PC downloads are like $5 for some but they have other formats too.
