Favorite thing: I sleep better (usually) in hotels. No idea why. I’ve tried replicating the experience at home, but I just do.
Least favorite: Other people making noise at dumb hours, careless slamming door or having full volume conversations while I’m resting.
@ACraigL Me, too. I think it’s because at home there are always a thousand things I could be doing, in a hotel sleeping is my only job. Least favorite thing: knowing that strangers have slept on the pillow, in the sheets, used the towels and washcloths. Just have to refuse that room to take root in my head.
@ACraigL I sleep better the second night, when I am accustomed to the hotel noises.
The morning I was leaving the hotel, it sounded like people were dropping big pots on the floor. ugh…
Two weeks ago when I was away, there were a bunch of loud people in the hallway late at night. I considered making a LOT of noise when I checked out at 6:30 am.
@Kawa I had the pits for a view… I think it was either another hotel, or the same hotel wrapped around a lower part of the hotel. I walked to the end of the hallway and looked out, and had a spectacular view of Fenway Park and the Mass Pike…
I turned off the heat… just let it be… I was mostly comfortable.
@brhfl I said that about my training class… I was excited to get there, but even more excited to be leaving.
Can’t agree on the tent part… if they could make tents completely moisture and bug proof, I might reconsider!
My least fav hotel was when my car broke down on the way to Manhattan from a Talking Heads concert in Asbury Park. My friend and I walked to a place.
Turned out it was a rent-by-the-hour place with several frat parties and bachelor parties in progress all night.
And the door lock didn’t work. We propped all the furniture against the door.
Sleep was not a possibility due to extremely cheerful drunk noise.
But the whole thing seemed funny later on.
Most fav:
Hyatt Regency Detroit (Dearborn I think) to see the Stones in 1989, Steel Wheels Tour. Had gotten tix thru friends who knew the band … 7th row center.
Got to hand out drinking with Ron Wood for a few hours after the concert.
Some college dorm room in the hills above Rome was pretty awesome. (Was not staying as a student)
The place where a family member got married last summer in Santa Fe was beyond pleasant and lovely.
La Posada de Santa Fe.
@f00l I liked staying in the Sheraton in DC, and the hotels in Australia – there was one that was hexagon shaped, and the entire building redefined open floor plan – only the watercloset was behind a separate door. Next time, I will remember to swim in sunscreen though…
@luvche21 I sleep through anything. So I purposely added on any hotel reward accts/travel profiles to give me the room nearest the ice maker/elevator/… so that someone else doesn’t have to have that room.
@mollama Lucky you! I normally sleep through lots of things (tornado sirens when I was living in the midwest, crying babies…) but for some reason people walking by my room and talking tends to always wake me up
Room service. I always stay at hotels that offer room service. OH! My new favorite thing is staying in suites. Nothing like traveling by myself and staying in a big old suite.
@conandlibrarian I have had room service at the Palace in NYC – their hot cocoa is awesome!!
I have started taking rooms with two beds… they seem to be bigger. Recently, it worked out because I was stuck with the two kids and I hadn’t planned on taking them.
Favorite thing: Hotel sex is always better than home sex.
Least favorite: Endless worry about bedbugs.
@cinoclav listening through the wall to hear strangers do it is also fun
@cinoclav hotel shower sex is awesome too! I don’t have a reply for bedbugs, the thought makes me shiver.

@moondrake I try not to think when in a hotel
Favorite thing: the bathroom is attached to my room for those late night needs.
Least favorite: the bathroom is attached to my room.
@Ziggie gotcha!
Favorite thing: having a different view outside when I wake up.
Least favorite: it’s sometimes hard to get the temperature exactly where I want it.

Favorite thing: knowing that I’ll be headed home soon enough. Least favorite: that it isn’t a tent.
@brhfl I said that about my training class… I was excited to get there, but even more excited to be leaving.

A made bed and cleaned bathroom without making bed and cleaning bathrooms
@CaptAmehrican Yes, I came home to a messy bathroom and an unmade bed… I sighed.

I tend to always get a room right next to the elevator or the pool. Bad luck I guess?
@luvche21 I sleep through anything. So I purposely added on any hotel reward accts/travel profiles to give me the room nearest the ice maker/elevator/… so that someone else doesn’t have to have that room.

@conandlibrarian A librarian that can afford a suite eh? Man, I’m not getting paid enough haha
@luvche21 He just knows how to book them better. Haha. I’ll see myself out.
