Mad Max: Fury Road - KC Advance Showing May 6, 2015 - Tickets available!
12So, as many of you know, I co-own a media production company in the KC metro area. We do a lot of contract work for various studios, and one of the films we had the pleasure to work on recently for Warner Bros. was Mad Max: Fury Road (post production, VFX).
I've been out of pocket on an extended shoot, and Warner Bros. flew me back to the US a few days ago to cover media inquiries and attend an advance screening of the film which will be showing at the B&B Overland Park 16, 8601 W. 135th St., Overland Park, KS @ 07:30 PM today, May 06, 2015.
I have set aside a precious few passes (I have SIX guaranteed admission passes left) and I'd like to offer them on a FCFS (first-come, first-served) basis to my fellow Mehricans that live in the greater KC area who would enjoy seeing the film for free tonight, ahead of the theatrical release on May 15th.
You must be: 1) 21 or older 2) willing to stay for a post show interview / possibly have your reaction leaving the theater filmed for commercial use and 3) you MUST be able to pick up your pass and confirm your attendance no later than noon today at the theater box office in southern Overland Park.
I'm going to give them out in pairs, limit one pair per household (ID will be required to pick your pass up at the box office).
Email codenamepavlov@gmail.com - and, if you're fast enough, I'll email you back and give you a phone number to call after 8:00AM to set things up. If I do not email you back, I'm sorry, the tickets have been claimed. There's no possible way I will be able to email everyone back that may request a pair of tickets - so if you don't hear from me via return email, better luck next time. I'll post a note in this thread if they've all been claimed before I pass out for the night.
Anyway, game on! Hope to see you at the movie!

Wow. 11 minutes and I have more email inquires than I have tickets. One couple is apparently driving up from Oklahoma, just to see the film tonight (so I may pick an alternate this afternoon in case they don't show or can't make it).
Please post your reactions to the film here in this thread after the showing this evening! Great response! (And FAST!) See you tonight - check your email!
Concessions are on me!
One has already dropped out because they didn't actually read all of my post and they can't register and pick up their passes before noon at the theater box office - so if you'd like a shot on the second chance round, go ahead and shoot me an email . . . I'm sure they'll all go quickly, but I'm off to bed and I'll check email after 7:30AM and award the 2 passes from this drop and pick an alternate for the Oklahoma couple (although they seem quite enthusiastic - but if they have car trouble, etc., I want someone to be able to use the passes!).
How very cool of you- KUDOS!!!
You are obviously a rare and special individual to do this for a bunch of [relative] strangers.
God bless you!
It's really a fantastic thing you're doing here. Thanks for being awesome! (I'm way too far away, otherwise I'd be lamenting my lateness...)
The Oklahoma couple actually made it! There was one set that went unclaimed at the box office, unfortunately, I had to pass them back for press use. So, I'll have four Mehrican guests plus the wife . . . Should make for a fun evening!
I enjoyed both the movie and the company . . . I offered to put the Oklahoma couple up at the Sheraton, but they insisted they needed to drive back (they did nap this afternoon in our conference room after picking up their passes). Really great people all around, I'm sure one or both of the couples will post an account of their experience (hopefully - hint, hint).
Looking forward to next time!
I'm flying out again Sunday - have fun kids!
@Pavlov really glad to hear it went well! It was awesome of you to offer this to the community and be such a great host. I'm glad to have you around here you crazy bastard (I figured you wouldn't want me getting too sentimental on you).
@JonT It was my pleasure - hope to do it again soon!
Me and my g/f went to the show with @Pavlov and @MrsPavlov. It was a AMAZING night. The movie was better than I thought it would be - it really is Mad Max re-done in many ways. Pavlov explained that there was not as much special effects in the movie as others and that most of what we saw was shot as live action stunt work - which considering the epic chase scenes is just mindblowing. After the show he talked a bit about those parts his team worked on. It really was a great action flick and its worth taking a look when it hits the theater. We stayed for the Q and A and then we hopped in a shuttle with our host and his wife and another couple and some people he knows from the studio and went to dinner. Pavlov took care of everything for the evening and even offered to put the other meh couple up in a hotel if they were too tired to drive back. They drove in for the movie from south of Wichita but wanted to get home because of heavy rains and flooding down there yesterday. Dinner was excellent - Pavlov can DRINK - and I mean DRINK like a fish - and still seem Sunday morning sober - and I have no earthly idea how he does it - and his wife well she is freaking amazing - my g/f and her really hit it off and they spent tons of time talking it up at dinner. We went back on the shuttle and after the other couple left he scored some killer ass bud. : ) Past that point I don't remember much. I know we got home around 11 and @MrsPavlov even texted to make sure we got home okay.
THANKS so much for a great night! It won't soon be forgotten!
@tubthumper I'm glad to hear that you both had such a great time . . . Thanks for moving to the earlier screening (which was almost exclusively filled with reviewing press), I know the Oklahoma couple appreciated it and they really were quite the troopers for making that drive in the first place. Although the Q&A may have been a bit more "technical" and the audience a bit more reserved / jaded, it did allow time for a wonderful dinner. It was my pleasure!
@tubthumper @Pavlov just want to say how happy it makes me that y'all had such a great experience together outside of the forums. It sounds like an amazing time and I'm frankly a little jealous. :) I loved this story and I'm glad it could happen because of our weird little community.
So I finally saw this last night and ho-lee shit, what a movie!
Do yourself a favor and go see it. Believe the hype.
Remember Furiosa.
