Looks like Mercatalyst is getting into brick-and-mortar retail
14I looked at the company’s jobs page and found a listing for a retail sales job in Plano, planned to open in 2021. Am I so out of the loop that I missed announcements of this, or did it just get delayed?
Some of the other job listings call it “MorningSave Store 0001.” Does that mean that if I ever go to the Dallas area, I can come visit and use my VMP to get 10% off there?

In the description:
@narfcake This is suprising. According to mehstalker, Meh has never sold mortar, and hasn’t offered a brick since early 2017, and that brick was really just a bluetooth speaker.
@Limewater And at least one of candy corn, if memory serves.
.
And numerous product descriptions containing brickbats …
@Limewater @rockblossom
Back on topic, maybe the subdivided space that was formerly Office Depot, between Five Below and Nordstrom Rack?
@narfcake I have no clue where that is physically, but philosophically, it sounds about right.
@narfcake Weird. I could’ve sworn it said 2021 when I first saw it, but I hadn’t had my coffee when I posted this thread.
@Limewater @narfcake @rockblossom
The strip center over on Preston, where Nordstrom Rack is located, would be a better choice than East Mall, or the space where Fry’s died.
@werehatrack The Preston Shepard Place coincides to the street address listed in the job posting. No suite is listed, however.
@narfcake
Yup, that’s the one, all right. I’m sure that the location will be obvious soon enough, if they haven’t already got a sign up.
@narfcake I hope it’s a better treasure hunt experience in comparison to Dirt Cheap. That place is always a mess!
@narfcake @werehatrack
This loc is in Plano, not Carrollton then, if it’s on Preston.
Is this the place at Preston and Park, that has a Tuesday Morning store?
@f00l Yes, the address in the job description is in Plano. TM is 1601 Preston – different building in the same shopping center.
(Why I’m guessing.the space between Five Below and Nordstrom Rack is because the space south of Party City is over 37k sq.ft., and I can’t imagine starting with that large of a store. Also I’m guessing all this based on Google Earth.)
I wonder if they would sell randomly packed boxes of irks?
@ironcheftoni
Given that they’re branding it as Morningsave, probably not.
I don’t so much wish to save in the mornings. More, wish to save at other times of day.
So … pity “poor me”.
/giphy “morning save”
@f00l Yes. I would like to save time during VMP hour not having to go through a fucking captcha.
I installed CAPTCHA to save my fellow robots from wasting money on this crap.
I cannot help but suspect that this development presages the end of the era of the randomly bounteous IRK. What need do they have for monthly grab bags with real treasure when they can peddle anything salvageable at a physical store?
If this means I have to set foot in Texas, than that is a hard pass.
@Felton10
Texas is prob not worse than Florida. Perhaps about par?
And we have better tacos and tortillas.
Small cultural advantages, perhaps; but meaningful.
@f00l Totally agree, but I think FL may have pulled slightly ahead in the “shithole” state category with what Gov DeDumbass aka DeathSentence has been doing and saying lately.
@f00l @Felton10
actually FL is doing better than NY, NJ, MA, RI…
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/
@chienfou @f00l maybe in actual numbers but I’ll bet FL has more elected reps on the top ten toilet turds list than any other state.
@f00l @Felton10
that’s the problem with elections…
@Felton10
Texas has an oversupply of blatant assholes, but Florida has the scam artist market completely sewn up. It has been that way for a century.
@chienfou @f00l @Felton10
Nope, top elected turds are from California and New York. If they want to tax us for 10 years AFTER we left the state, they’re the biggest ones.
@chienfou @f00l @Felton10 @MarkDaSpark Why would they be taxing you after you left the state? And how is that legal to have to pay state taxes in a state you no longer live in and don’t earn money in?
@chienfou @f00l @Felton10 @Kidsandliz @MarkDaSpark Would probably be related to certain retirement accounts. People put pretax money into them, and are taxed only when the money is paid out. Some work in a high wage - high tax state, then retire to a minimal tax state, and get the money out practically tax free. So some states try to tax based on where you originally made the money.
@chienfou @f00l @Felton10 @kevinrs @Kidsandliz @MarkDaSpark
I wish them the best of luck if they try to get a Texas court to enforce their demands.
@chienfou @f00l @Felton10 @Kidsandliz @MarkDaSpark @werehatrack Looked it up, looks like it was happening before 1996, an excise tax on employer contributed portion was proposed in 2010, but didn’t get anywhere. https://finance.zacks.com/pay-taxes-pensions-state-retired-state-living-in-8131.html So, doesn’t look like it’s actually happening at all anymore.
@Kidsandliz He didn’t say you don’t earn money in-just after you left you state.
One of the reasons I watch “Inside Edition” on Thursdays is so I can watch Val pitch Morningsave goodies to Megan so she can say “That’s Great!” or “Big Savings!”
I can only hope they figure out how to recreate the MorningSave Forum IRL.
@Ignorant
Do you miss having the daily opportunity to be a spiritual guide to the clueless?
@Ignorant interesting, I didn’t realize MS had such a thing.
@Ignorant Looks like you are the unpaid answering person for the “I am not going to look for the answer that is already on the website but ask here instead and expect an immediate answer” for the lazy customers.
@Kidsandliz You forgot about the part where they subsequently cop an attitude because they also failed to comprehend that @ignorant is a username.
@Ignorant @Kidsandliz @narfcake
To be fair, a brief browse of that “forum” left me with the distinct impression that it got less use for actual discussion of the products than a salt lick in a broom closet.
@Ignorant @Kidsandliz @narfcake @werehatrack
Are you sure there’s not an ongoing fetishist market demand for this “enhanced broom closet” setup?
Well, that explains why they stopped doing mehrathons.
@OnionSoup
Yep. We may have seen the last of them, although they might do an occasional token with just the stuff that even the store can’t sell.
Oh boy, an “As seen on TV” store. How original.
/giphy scoffs
@medz
Worse. All the stuff that didn’t sell online or via whatever side channel Morningsave’s broadcast pitch might have (I’ve made sure to never see any of it), likely with all of the leftovers from Meh and SideDeal tossed in - since the stuff cross-lists most of the time anyway.
The way I figure it, if something used to be IRK fodder worth having, it’s going to get a last chance at their physical store now. If it’s so awful or unwanted that even the store can’t peddle it at a deep discount with no shipping to eat, maybe it’ll end up in an IRK. Frankly, though, I think we may never see another Mehrathon, and if the store succeeds, we’ll definitely never see another one worth lurking to catch.
@werehatrack I hope it fails miserably and they go bankrupt. That’ll learn 'em.
