Look Smart Trivia: Chronological Jimmy Stewart
6We’re gonna try something a little different today. I have assembled five movie stills from the prolific and varied career of America’s Best Pal, Jimmy Stewart. You need not necessarily name them (although the more you recognize, the easier this will be). Your task is to list the five photos in chronological order by release date of the film shown. Make sense? Just list them from oldest to youngest, like this: 3, 1, 6, 5, 2. (Those aren’t the answers and there is no 6.)
Beware of relying too much on the quality and grain of these images. They’re just simple screengrabs made by me, slicing different amounts of the screen, from sources of varying quality. If you’re the first to list them all in the correct order, you’ll score a $5 Meh coupon and a “Say! Put her there!” handshake from Jimmy. Insert signoff catchphrase here!
OK, so… in an entirely predictable turn of events, the answers I had for yesterday’s Indian Food quiz were not necessarily universally applicable, both because of the diversity of Indian languages and food, and because one man’s sandwich is another man’s hot dog. So @lehigh, @asplus and @gsrivast will ALL receive a $5 Meh coupon. Each of them (and @cinoclav, who was ineligible due to winning within the last 7 days) had 4 of the 5 same answers I did, and who am I to say the fifth was “wrong”? For the record, my answers were:
- Jalebi
- Papadum
- Samosa
- Falooda
- Kachori

From Indian food to the man from Indiana, PA! I believe #3 is from one of my favorite Hitchcock movies that some people think is more of a “stunt” film
@lehigh I spent some time in school at IUP. Lovely area, lousy teachers.
@lehigh I love the gradual sunset and clouds moving through the window. Like a lot of Hitchcock movies he makes the best use of what’s ultimately a gimmick.
I would try this quiz but I’m watching a hoax tv show I found on Monday called Ghost Watch right now and it’s your fault @JasonToon. (I watched last night and it was too scary.)
I’m actually glad I can’t win again yet. There’s no way I’d know these without some serious research which I’m not about to do. Good luck movie buffs!
Oldest to Youngest Jimmy Stewart, or oldest to youngest film? I am going to assume the latter. Here is a stab:
4, 2, 1, 3, 5
@Limewater - I wondered that too, until I read it again.
I like the format. I agree with Limewater’s ordering, though. But just to be different I’ll throw out 4,2,3,1,5, with the color on 3 being a trick placement.
I was surprised to find The Jimmy Stewart Show on TV recently. I hadn’t realized it existed, possibly because it only lasted one season.
Apparently this quiz is only about movies, though.
Carry on.
Random try - 3, 4, 2, 1, 5.
Or 4, 3, 2, 1, 5?
I assumed he was holding the ball in 4. Could he be one of the kids?
Are we making random guesses?
I’ll go with 4,2,1,3,5.
@sammydog01 Crap, that’s taken.
2,4,1,3,5
@sammydog01 - So far, we all agree he looks oldest in #5.
Looks as if he was in at least 80 movies, good luck knowing them all.
Wait, he wasn’t in Rosemary’s Baby - ? This IMDb list appears flawed.

The best test
There are only 120 possible permutations of the numbers 1-5. It wouldn’t be hard to exhaust them all.

@Limewater By the way, the previous post is mostly a joke, and I have no problem at all with it being disqualified. I don’t want to discourage people from taking actual educated guesses.
@Limewater - Not nice.
Surprisingly, no one has taken my (actual, not random) guess:
2
4
3
1
5
IMO, 5 is obvious, 2 & 4 are the oldest and then 3 & 1, but which comes first in each of those pairs is a toss up.
(Just going by looks, don’t know the films, didn’t google the images.)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
1,4,3,5,2
Put it in a number randomizer (aka my brother). Let’s see how our luck turns out.
4 2 3 1 5
