can i borrow someone's phone? my old ass SGS2 isn't supported.
@carl669 That sucks. It's all browser based so not sure what the requirements are but I did it with my G2 and my iPhone. You can borrow my phone, let me know when you're headed my way.

@FroodyFrog i have an LG G2 running Chrome with over 100 tabs open, I'm terrible about cleaning them out. It disconnected after a little while but worked. I think the Chrome browser is key, though it worked fine on ios safari too.
@djslack Considering that the LG G2 has Lollipop (sure, it's the 5.0.2 version, but it's still higher than Kit Kat), that's probably why it's supported.
Otherwise, listing supported mobile devices would be pointless. Come to think of it, that part of the list is pretty pointless anyways.
@FroodyFrog "Samsung Galaxy S3..."
@carl669 Well I mean, technically it is possible to get the software on your G2 to a higher version than the S3...
@FroodyFrog true. but i'm not that motivated. also, i got an invite to google's project fi. considering the nexus 5x. but, i'm annoyed there's no SD slot.
@carl669
(I think we've gone through this once.)
Got the original Nexus 5 last month. I love the Nexus brand (have had several devices), but yeah, no SD slot is a bit upsetting. I mean sure, I could just keep my photos in the cloud (especially since Google Photos now can automatically delete photos it detects on your device and in the storage), but I dunno.
If you do get the 5X, then the only suggestion I can make is to spring for a larger capacity one (in my opinion, having base storage in 2015 for a flagship phone at only 16 GB is a letdown, and yes, I know that the real flagship is the 6P which is why the base storage for that is 32 GB, and that the 5X is more of a budget flagship. Still, I'm holding firm to my position)
Considering that right now I am free of any contract, I am more eager to think about Fi. Unfortunately, they don''t support the 5 (although I heard there was a temporary loophole, which they might have closed.) Oh well, maybe my next phone will be used on Fi.
@FroodyFrog I'm still on kitkat... Rooted and the ota won't go through, haven't reset my phone to update.
@djslack @carl669
I just noticed I mixed up which device each of you mentioned with the other one.
@FroodyFrog yep. i was looking at the 32GB one. the main drawback for me of not having an SD slot is that i keep tons of shows and videos on my phone for my 3 year old (and for me). it's just easier to download them from youtube and keep them local than have to worry about whether or not i'll have connectivity or worry about my data usage. i do see that sandisk (and probably others) is making a usb drive that will also connect to an android phone. but, i feel like not having an expansion slot is just lame.
sure, the back is sealed and the phone is more water resistant. but, i've had my current phone for close to 4 years now and have never had an issue with light water exposure.
ugh. why can't they just give me everything i want in a phone and only charge me $300??
@carl669 Well OTG's have been around for a while.I have a 64 GB one which I got for $9, an 8Gb one which I got for free from a company, and another 8Gb one which I paid $14 for.
The downside to them is that since they use the micro usb port, I can't use the port for both things at once.
As for the $300 price point, sadly, the closest you'd get at this point to that is the 16Gb model for $329 from Best Buy.
Eventually, it would go down, but it would be a long while before it gets to 64Gb for $300.
Funnily enough, when the original Nexus 5 came out 2 years ago back when carriers pushed contracts, I remember that over a period of 4 weeks Amazon had the 16Gb version for $1 numerous times through Sprint. Sadly I had upgraded phones the month before, so naturally I was upset.
When I picked it up, it was roughly $150 in great condition. I should have just spent the extra $40 and gotten 32Gb. Still, it is a great phone despite the memory.
Now that I think about it though, you might be thinking about the flash drive which can create a wifi hotspot which can connect with your phone. If you are, then technically it was released last year, but now is the 2nd gen.
@FroodyFrog i was thinking of the flash drive that physically connects. but, just realized the nexus 5x uses usb-c connection and not microusb.
@carl669
Your 2 choices then are getting either a micro usb to usb c adaptor, or, getting the SanDisk Connect. (That's the flash drive with Wi-Fi). The price is ridiculous (not in a good way), although the newer version is $10 cheaper than the first gen.
Tried it yesterday. At first the servers were overloaded and I could not get in, but eventually I did.
It was surprisingly a bit sluggish (looking at you @tardy), but it was still impressive.
With the exception of the certain shows making parodies of Star Wars (I.e Family Guy and others), this is the closest interaction I ever got to the franchise. (Ignoring the fact that I was invited to a networking event on Friday with breakfast and a showing of The Force Awakens)
@FroodyFrog Was pretty responsive for me today. Id have expected it to be more sluggish considering best case it's communicating browser to browser, and worst case sending all the motion data through Google.
@djslack Could also be that the servers finally had a chance to breath and as a result decided to play nicely.
It's impressive how little set-up there was for it to just work. Go this special url, do a little calibration, and you're controlling the light saber with your phone.
I'm ready for the Wii browser/phone emulator.
@dave This isn't the first time Google has done something like this, however, it's the most impressive implementation.
I'm just curious how many people have played with this as opposed to working cough cough
so let me get this straight, my $850 iPhone 6 plus can finally emulate my $15 wii-mote?
Incidentally I still couldn't get this to work on my work PC with a new download of Chrome done today... Will try home PC soon...
@mehdaf We've been able to do that on Android for years :P
(Please note: this is not an attempt to start a debate. I'm not interested. Just making a joke)
@FroodyFrog no worries, it's just funny to me how motion sensing control is retro already...
@mehdaf That's technology for you.
@FroodyFrog well I got 1:35 into it on the home computer and then got disconnected somehow. My $15 wiimote works flawlessly, and my $850 phone is intermittent. Now that is technology for you!
@mehdaf How about the fact that technology is at a point where even a watch can play video games? True, the screen is small, and without a Bluetooth remote it is pointless, but it follows the same thought: technology is cool.
@FroodyFrog agreed! (When it works!)
3:41 to escape. Maybe because I brought a laser knife to a laser gun fight.
@Moose Ah! Just beat me. 3:51 for me.
@Moose I came home and played it (couldn't do more than just check it out at work) and got lucky with a 3:01 with one death at the boss fight. Played again, thought I did better, and it was 4:21, so I know the first one was luck.
There goes office productivity tomorrow...stupid goat!
@TaRDy
BAAAA'D goat.
And yes, i regret saying this.
And yes, I know that "good" and baaaa'd" aren't necessarily based on the same standards by everyone.
