Life as December Goat: Day 20
8I don’t normally like the ASMR videos. I find the sounds of people eating disgusting. However, there is a channel I watch on Youtube that puts out videos of Japanese barbers and he discovered that the ASMR crowd really like those. So now, he changed the name to ASMR Sounds of Japan and he puts out haircut videos fairly regularly. Here is an example:
I do put them on to help me sleep when my mind won’t shut off. The quality has changed some recently as he has invested in fancy ear microphones to capture the sound as if you were in the seat.
Does anyone else end up watching things such as this on sleepless nights?

So are there really people who like to hear other people eat? That gives me the gags big time. I can think of nothing grosser than hearing anyone eat anything. I am a fan of pimple (preferably big old cyst types) popping and toenail clipping and earwax removing videos. I love those.
I don’t get it. Apparently this is not my thing, but thanks for sharing, Ms. Goat!
@shahnm I don’t get it either.
@Barney @shahnm I guess it makes some people feel all tingly, but not everyone has this reaction
no.
My new Google Home Mini can play bedtime sounds like thunder, rain, white noise etc. Just say “OK Google, Goodnight” You can set up a whole bedtime routine in the app.
Same thing for in the morning, “OK Google, Goodmorning” gets you the news, weather, peppy music, whatever. It can tell you your appointments and reminders for the day.
@therealjrn I fucking love my bedroom Alexa. If she would just talk dirty to me she would be perfect.
I haven’t set my google mini up yet. Looking forward to it.
So, I only watched it for 1 minute. That was all I could stand at the moment. I never heard of ASMR before so I had to look it up. Apparently, it’s a thing. So, at this point in time, I will reserve judgement. When you said something about people chewing, I had no intention of listening because that just grosses me out. But then @moonhat made that second comment doing something of a turnabout so I turned on the vid. Like others have said, at this point, I don’t get it but, I didn’t give it time either so, I will look more into this thing. But not now…it’s early and haven’t had my coffee yet.
Gal, after you posted this today I did watch/listen to a few different ASMR videos on YouTube. I can see the appeal! Some didn’t do much for me but some had me feeling somewhat relaxed, almost drowsy. Kind of interesting!
