LG refrigerator freezing food
2Hi
I noticed that lately food has started to freeze in my fridge. model LG LSX26366S . I tried to twist the thermostat, apparently it does’t work, since the temperature does’t change. Question: can I replace the thermostat myself (the warranty for the refrigerator has expired long ago) or is it better to invite a repair specialist. If the first option, then how to do it and which thermostat to buy?

Is there an S after the X in your model number perhaps? That’s what seems to come up when searching for that model. If so, then there are various parts listed at

Also of note: if it’s only freezing on the bottom of the fridge and not the top, then it is most likely the circulator motor
Some refrigerators just have a damper to control temperature in the fridge section, while the freezer section is the only one that is actively cooling, and the damper allows cold air to float down from the freezer. In that sort of system, if the freezer is set too cold, it won’t matter how warm you set the fridge, if the freezer is set too cold the air on the top shelf or so of the refrigerator section will be below freezing and foods will partially freeze. You might try adjusting the freezer a bit warmer before trying to repair anything, as this might be the only issue. On the same note, any major change in temperature requires 2-3 days to equalize, unless you just leave the fridge door open and warm the whole thing up quite a bit then bring it back down, so keep in mind that the change won’t take place in a few hours, and will require a few days, especially if you are judging it by a piece of meat thawing or being frozen instead of a thermometer.(Even with a thermometer, the fridge still needs some time to equalize before the temperature will read a change, as all the food in the freezer compartment is held at the lower temperature, and will take awhile to warm up to just under 30, instead of 10-15.)
Hopefully that gives you a few freeby ideas on how to fix it. I had a similar problem and figured all this out a few months ago, so I feel your frustration.
@smerk85 I had the same thing happen and it was a frozen damper in the baffle. I tapped it lightly with a rubber mallet and it released.
When was the last time you cleaned the cooling coils at the bottom or rear of the fridge? Those clogged with dust will cause the cool box to ice up
@cranky1950 This.
@cranky1950 I came to say check your coils, check your air paths inside the fridge and freezer sections, but here this cranky person and duodec beat me to it.
@thismyusername you forgot to mention that I beat youby 7 hours.
@cranky1950
probably about 3 years ago. Okay, first I’ll try to clean cooling coils
Just leave the door cracked open a bit.
On the plus side, your batteries will be extra fresh…!
According to this, the refrig & freezer is controlled by a panel on the front of the freezer, not a knob. Does your refrig look like this?? I matched your model with this one.
Contact/complain to LG anyway, even beyond the warranty period. They may repair that for free anyway. If you bought it from a smallish appliance chain, not a big box, the store also might repair that for free.
I’d go to YouTube and enter your part number, and food freezing and see what comes up. There are a ton of appliance parts stores/websites that show you how to troubleshoot things and replace things. (Personal favorite is PartSelect (https://www.youtube.com/user/partselect) because he doesn’t do a ton of random expo - just gets into it and tells you how to fix it) - Although, RL stories is that my mother was having the same problem, had the repair guy come out a few times and never could figure out what was wrong with it, so she just bought a new one.
Great website for this stuff. https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/Refrigerator-Repair-Help?
It seems to me that after cleaning it got better. I’ll see how it goes on. If anything, I’ll call the service center. Thanks for advice guys
