I was, but the entire experience tonight at the Blues home opener was less than impressive. This is the first time in my life that I was truly disappointed and had no excuses for the team.
@riskybryzness Oh my gosh - I can’t even begin to express all the emotions that went through me watching that game. I was very, very ill during the playoff run - my intestines ruptured in two places from ulcers in April and then at the beginning of May I needed emergency surgery to remove a huge small bowel obstruction I developed and they had to resect my small intestine after removing 12" of it in the process. I was on such a high dose of pain meds that I literally don’t remember much of the playoffs except for bits and pieces of things here and there. My mom, sister, and I got up at 3 AM to go get a good spot on the parade route for ourselves and people on my Caps message boards that were meeting us. It was the first time I’d been out of the house for a non-medical trip in almost two and a half months. That day was GLORIOUS. Here’s a pic that my mom took of me and my sister - I’m in the hoodie, and I indoctrinated her into the world of Caps hockey 20 years ago when she was just 14 - it was a very special moment for me.
I still haven’t looked at the photos I took from that day because I didn’t want them be worse than my memories of that day, and I’m not going to lie…during the raising of the Stanley Cup Champs banner I ugly cried away so many years of angst and frustration and game 7’s. Have you heard about how the NHL banned kegstands with the Cup because the Caps and family/friends/fans have done it so many times they bent it all to hell? The excursion of the Cup while here in DC and with the players was beyond epic.
@LovelyLadyBumps Ovechkins bender after they won the cup was by far one of the best things I’ve seen…apart from Kessel eating hot dogs out of it. I was rooting for the knights that game, still a bit bummed they didn’t make it–I truly do love Fleury, he’s hilarious on and off the ice. I am glad the Caps one that though, they fought so hard to win–might happen again this season too if they keep it up.
I am excited about the new NHL season (and hockey in general), but not for your orange team…Only good thing about the Flyers is that Dave Hakstol (the coach) used to be from North Dakota (Go Sioux!!)…
GREAT opener for my Colorado Avalanche though over the stinky Minnesota Wild!! A beautiful 4-1 beating was laid down in Denver last night!!!
@tohar1 I went to Fargo a couple of years ago for a science competition that my son’s school was in. Pretty cool place! I wish I’d had more time to get out and see things but it was December and we were getting snowed in. Oh well!
As for your Avs, was Grubauer (your new goalie from my team) in goal? I’m not sure if he had a starting gig there or not. He was just in DC earlier this week getting his Stanley Cup Championship ring.
@LovelyLadyBumps Fargo (my home town) is a great city. You should come up when it’s a bit warmer outside though…(Yes, it does warm up!) even though it can be quite beautiful in the Winter months too. The Avs actually had ex-Cap goalie Semyon Varlamov in goal…He’s quite a capable goalie when he’s healthy. I’m hoping since he’s in a contract year, he’ll stay healthy & play well. If not, I think Grubauer could be a nice addition to our club. They signed him to a 3 year-$10 million contract, so I’d say his future is pretty secure.
@tohar1 I was very impressed with Fargo - I happen to love the winter and snow and since we’d not had any good snow for a while, I think I was more giddy than the kiddo. I was flying back to DC with a connection through Minneapolis so I was more worried about getting snowed in there than I was with my kiddo flying back to Pittsburgh via O’Hare, but I ended up getting home with no delays whereas his plane to O’Hare left about half an hour before mine did (got iced in once it got to Fargo, and then O’Hare stopped flights because they got slammed, then he sat on a plane on the tarmac for three hours waiting for flights to go out of O’Hare - was originally supposed to be home at 6 PM and didn’t get home until 1 AM). It was an adventure. Would definitely love to come back during the summer and do a motorcycle trip to some National Parks.
I didn’t realize you had Varlie and his fragile groin still as your primary goaltender. I honestly think that they’ll let him walk this year or offer him the backup position and let Grubauer be the starter. He proved himself more than capable here when Holts was out for a bit, and he just didn’t get the opportunity to play as much as he should at this point in his career. Our pipeline of talent is stacked at goalie, and this season we brought up Copely to be backup from Hershey who’d been sitting there an extra year or so that he could finally get some NHL ice time. I thought he’d play last night’s game with PIT seeing as we’re off until next Wednesday, so I was surprised to see Holtby in goal…but then again, you can’t GET Holtby out of goal unless it’s at gunpoint. That boy has some serious issues with being removed from between the pipes. I know goalies are headcases to begin with, but he takes it to a whole new level.
@LovelyLadyBumps Let me know if you ever need a “tour guide” or recommendations on things to do in our area. I’d be happy to help…Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall!!
I was really hoping knights would have a good first game, but that wasn’t the case. I think Fleury was off–which sucks since it was a home game. Stars seem to have gotten it together during the 2nd period which was nice to see. Still bummed about the sharks game though, they didn’t do too well, I was really hoping they’d have a killer first game after they got Karlsson.
@riskybryzness MAF I think is at the beginning of the end of his career. He has not looked consistently good the past couple of seasons.
I also want to compliment you on your user name - Bryz is my absolute favorite goalie of all time and he did an interview for NHL Network with fans before Game 2 that outdoes anything else that has ever come out of his mouth. It was so freaking hysterical that I still am in tears when I watch it. He is the best.
@LovelyLadyBumps I AM SO GLAD YOU GOT IT. He is my favorite ever, I love his commentary on pretty much everything ever. My favorite quote from him is “I am not afraid of anything. Except bear…but bear in forest.” He is a global treasure.
@riskybryzness this is by far the best commentary ever by him. I still say quotes from this video (does have a small bit of profanity). I dare you to watch it and not laugh your rear off.
@tinamarie1974 yes. The caps are doing it this year. The only way you can get hard tickets is to be a season ticket holder from what I understand and if you transfer tickets you’ve sold through the team’s Ticketmaster site, the person buying them has to pay $30 to print them (that’s for two tix) should they not have a phone to access the Internet. They’ve also got concession rewards they give that are linked to the account depending on where you sit so you have to use a phone for that too. If you split tix, the account owner has to pull it up, screenshot it, and then send it to all other parties. With crap internet in the arena (even after renovations this summer) it makes it hard to get to your account while you’re there.
@LovelyLadyBumps exactly the same here. I missed all but 4 min of the 1st period trying to get peanuts and a soda. I am wondering if they will relax these terrible rules at some point. They are highly inefficient and inconvenient
@enville Agree, also love it when I hear “Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has just left the building.” & “Lord Stanley, Lord Stanley, give me the brandy.” Mike Lange’s the best!
@enville my favorites are “He wants to scratch my back with a hacksaw” and “well I’ll Be cowkicked” (I used to live in Pens territory and my ex husband plus my two youngest kids are Pens fans). Mike Lange is a class act all around.
It looks like an orange nightmare.
@Barney You are not wrong.
@riskybryzness I know.
@Barney @riskybryzness I live here.
OK, so tell me, what team is Gritty a mascot for?
@Barney He’s the new Philadelphia Flyers mascot. Everyone is a little confused, but it’s good marketing–everyone is talking about it.
@riskybryzness I don’t follow Hockey. Isn’t there a green mascot for one of the Philadelphia pro teams?
@Barney I think that’s Phillie Phanatic for the baseball team.
@riskybryzness Yeah, that’s it. I wonder what color babies those two would have?
@Barney @riskybryzness “Cat Puke Yellow”
@medz @riskybryzness Great name for a mini mascot!
@Barney @riskybryzness
https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/the700level/gritty-and-phillie-phanatic-make-mascot-memory-well-never-forget
@cinoclav Nope, nope, nope. I think I’ll stick to my solo purple.
@Barney @riskybryzness The Philly Phanatic is the first modern mascot on which all mascots are modeled. 99% Invisible did a fascinating episode on it.
@BeerIsSoAwesome And still the best.

@BeerIsSoAwesome @cinoclav You guys have been drinking the Kool-Aid. Or maybe you’ve had too much beer.
@Barney I’m a Philly guy!
@cinoclav I know you are a Philly guy. My condolences.
@Barney I love orange.
Gritty stole my look/style
@capguncowboy He also apparently stole all the HotDogs.
@capguncowboy Nice work. I should get back to on to GIMP and do some fun stuff.
@Targaryen I should specify that I didn’t make these. They were made by the Reddit community (of course)
@capguncowboy STILL not as creepy as the Burger King.
@aetris @capguncowboy thanks, I hate it. I forgot about that commercial, well most burger king commercials.
Somewhere on here, there’s a gif of @katylava turning around in much the same fashion
@capguncowboy False. That was @hollboll.
@capguncowboy @medz confirmed.
I was, but the entire experience tonight at the Blues home opener was less than impressive. This is the first time in my life that I was truly disappointed and had no excuses for the team.
Also, gritty is literally the embodiment of children’s nightmares!
@tinamarie1974 Truly is. I think he is giving philly some strength though.
@riskybryzness well that is what matters!
@tinamarie1974 I think in the beginning most of us were like, “What the fuck?” Now we’re all, “We you Gritty!”
@Ignorant lmao that’s too funny
@Ignorant Is he just a nesting doll? that’s even more terrifying
The more memes I see, the more I like him.
Caps fan here of 29 years - SO FREAKING EXCITED I CAN’T STAND IT!!!
(also I love Gritty FYI - Phuck the Flyers and the Flightless Fowl we played last night, but Gritty is aight with me)
@LovelyLadyBumps Caps are doing great so far! They had an AMAZING first game!
@riskybryzness Oh my gosh - I can’t even begin to express all the emotions that went through me watching that game. @LovelyLadyBumps All that AND a hockey fan?
/giphy how you doin?

@LovelyLadyBumps I AM SO GLAD YOU GOT IT. He is my favorite ever, I love his commentary on pretty much everything ever. My favorite quote from him is “I am not afraid of anything. Except bear…but bear in forest.” He is a global treasure.
@LovelyLadyBumps I should add, that was not sarcasm, I was hoping someone would pick up on it.
@LovelyLadyBumps @riskybryzness
@riskybryzness this is by far the best commentary ever by him. I still say quotes from this video (does have a small bit of profanity). I dare you to watch it and not laugh your rear off.
I also have other Bryz quotes to share.
@LovelyLadyBumps This is honestly one of my favorites, I was laughing so hard when I saw it the first time. His interaction with Mickey Mouse is gold.
Are other teams implementing this required digital ticket thing through the NHL app?
@tinamarie1974 yes. The caps are doing it this year. The only way you can get hard tickets is to be a season ticket holder from what I understand and if you transfer tickets you’ve sold through the team’s Ticketmaster site, the person buying them has to pay $30 to print them (that’s for two tix) should they not have a phone to access the Internet. @cinoclav OMG that’s disturbingly amazing.
Have to admit I love it when I hear, “IT’S A HOCKEY NIGHT IN PITTSBURGH!”
@enville Agree, also love it when I hear “Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has just left the building.” & “Lord Stanley, Lord Stanley, give me the brandy.” Mike Lange’s the best!

@LovelyLadyBumps Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one too!
