We just bought 4 of a different brand from Amazon a couple weeks ago that are normally 25 each but were on sale for $6. We used them when we had to run out at 10:30 last night to put the cover back on the pool. Of course we were goofing off and running around the backyard like cars when, whoops, we nearly ran into one of the many deer that live around here. Apparently we were very convincing as a car.
I've been wanting a flashlight for my car for a while now. A headlamp might be even better, and the Amazon reviews sound decent, so I'm in for one. lively-plausible-tendency
I own what appears to be an earlier version of this headlamp. I think I paid $20 from Costco several years ago.
It has been an excellent headlamp, although the battery pack on the back of the band can feel a bit heavy after wearing it a while - but not too bad. Plenty bright. All in all have been happy with it and it has been durable thru a fair amount of use.
Would definitely buy this set at this price if I didn't already have mine.
I have used this same headlamp for over 4 years (a little bit every day for late night projects/chores). Really bright, nice adjustability, and actually comfortable for 2+ hrs. I also own & love the black diamond spot (really popular in hiking circles, fantastic battery life), but this H7 is my go-to for everything but long treks, as the usable light/throw just can't be beat at this weight. A review from OutdoorGearLab (good review site for hiking gear -- this is the same as the 'Coast HL7'):
It was the editor's choice in that shootout (despite the battery life) up against some VERY good competition. I would certainly agree from my experience, as well. There is also the H7.2, which is brighter, but I actually didn't like it as much-- too heavy, not nearly as comfortable as the H7. Sooooo... just bought another... homeless-superfluous-drawer
@hamjudo that was a sweet deal - before my meh time. But brightness-wise those aren't in the same league as today's and they appear to turn on accidentally when stowed. (Also can't help but notice there seems to be a tapering off of the meh startup deal-price-subsidy since the beginning.)
@RedOak I usually use the wimpy red light, so as not to impair my night vision. I just need it so I don't trip on a cat while exercising. Today's offering is useful too, just not for me.
I love headlamps. I live in the woods (very useful for late night dog walking) and I keep my office very dark,especially coding at night. Rather than turn on a real light, I'll grab a headlight and look that way. Also I keep all the house lights off at night, while the fam is asleep, I can cook a whole late snack, and get around without painful injuries real easily. And LED has made them essential.
@Tom223 Those old style multi-leds cant really compare to a modern single led headlamp like they are selling here. Look at the one you listed, has 16 LEDS and it can only produce 78 lumens? The one meh is selling produces 200 lumens... from a single led source.
@Tom223 Hey, those are the ones we bought! And as far as brightness goes, they are more than enough with four settings. The 4th is actually a blinking red light that lets you be located without really burning up battery.
I just eat a lot of carrots. helps the night vision. not too many places left where it's dark enough to really need these. if you eat enough carrots. Just remember to cover one eye when a car drives by or you open the fridge door
In all seriousness, my wife got LASIK, and I was supposed to go next. Went to the highest rated doc in Denver, she came out 20-15. But her night vision went to hell. So I cancelled. Sometimes I wish I could see without contacts. But whenever we're camping, it always amazes me how bad most folks' night vision is.
@saodell Look at Phakic Intraocular Lenses (PIOL) instead of LASIK. More expensive but less invasive, reversible, better outcomes, and much lower impact on night vision. I've had mine for 8 eight years now and LOVE IT.
@alextse hadn't heard of PIOL. Interesting tech. From the piece below it appears to be be indicated for heavy near-sightedness correction - 5D-20D. Everytime I consider surgical eye procedures, reading about them scares me away. Luckily my eyes tolerate contact lenses very well. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phakic_intraocular_lens
I have this, it is fabulous for trail running in the predawn hours. Is it overkill for finding your tent in the dark 30 yards away? Yep. But for trail running, the lumens, the adjustable focus and angle, and the stability of the battery pack on the back are awesome. Maybe I've got spectacular batteries (doubtful), but I have never had a problem with battery life. Just wish I needed more of these.
Just ordered a 500 lumen torch with 3 light adjustments , also strobe and sos modes, incl. are a rechargable battery and charger and 2 day prime shipping(Sunday del.) 20 bucks delivered...think thats superior to this offering ...I know its not the same item ..and my spelling sucks
@mellowirishgent you will find that having to flip past the S.O.S. Position is annoying...and you have to use 1 hand to hold the light. I love headlamps and keep them in multiple places
@uwacn I DO USE NEWEGG BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH AMAZON IS AMAZING EVERYTIME THEY DONT HIT THE 2 DAY DELIVERY THEY EXTEND MY YEARLY SUBSCRIPTION BY A MONTH OR GIVE ME A REFUND AND LET ME KEEP THE ITEM
@Saffer49 ON A BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY AFTERNOON YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THEN MAKE COMMENTS LIKE THAT SHAME ON YOU FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME ..
Don't overlook the usefulness of an EDC (everyday carry) small flashlight in your pocket or on your keyring. The headlight looked pretty nice but the P2BM's 16 lumens is plenty to move around in the dark, or use for close-up extra illumination. Its enough to see the dog poop at night so you can avoid it or pick it up as appropriate, and enough to read a map or other material without totally blowing your night vision.
When we've had power fails at work the emergency lights fail after about 1 hour, then all the interior offices and restrooms go dark. Worse if you're out somewhere else in a big building or at night and don't have the little emergency flashlight you keep in your desk at work (you do, don't you?). An EDC light should be in everyone's pocket or purse.
I picked this up because I needed an extra headlamp... my current one is a coast ( http://www.lowes.com/pd_297874-13229-TT7497CP-P2_0__?productId=3031322 ) that I picked up several years ago. I do love the coast but kept putting off getting an extra due to the cost (I didn't even pay 40 for my original, got it on sale for like 26.99)... well the led lenser arrived today...
The band is almost exactly the same as the coast (except for the name of course), the battery compartment/fader switch is the same as the coast (except for the name on it)... the power cord on the coast isn't coiled, the actual light piece is a bit more refined on the led lenser than the coast (newer, larger LED) easier to focus beam with the little dohicky instead of having to turn the lens)... seems to be a bit more focused in all modes (power level, focus level) than the coast...
The little flashlight is cute, I stuck it in my bag as I already have a decent key-chain light.
I got my Lenser and used it immediately....totally awesome, best headlight I own! I love that the light output is adjustable both in focus and in brightness. It is blindingly bright at high level. The weight balance is nice as well and the lens is small enough to fit under the bill of a hat if needed.

Oh god... I accidentally bought this cuz I thought it was a fuku.
Darn you Meh and your coloring!
@eulestadt it's not too late too cancel!
@trisk Way too cancel!
@rcworship I'm canceling as hard as I can!
According to Amazon reviews, the headlamp really goes through batteries. If only I had some AAAs (that didn't leak) . . .
@KDemo
@KDemo Brings to light(hah) an item I haven't seen here yet. Eneloop recharchgables. Good stuff.
@w_a_w - Bright idea! I would buy.

Was interested until I saw it runs on three AAA. At this level of brightness there is no way that will have a satisfactory runtime for me.
@DigMe This is a nice light, it'll dial down to 3 lm; you can't get much better runtime than that. For more power, hack in a LiPo cell or two.
In for 2. practical-flirty-worm wtf kinda order name.... Whatever. Looks great for work.

@RedOak Heavy? You must have a serious pencil neck. Not said to be mean spirited either.
@w_a_w how else could one take that comment?

Back on September 3rd, I bought a couple of the Energizer Trailfinder Headlamps, https://meh.com/forum/topics/energizer-trailfinder-headlamp They were $3 each. They seem to fulfill all of my headlamp needs.

I usually buy Black Diamond. I couldn't resist the price. In for 2.

Meh way to pricey for something I dont even need. Amazon has a head light for only 6 bux and it's best selling/returnable if I don't like it.

@duodec - I don't like sticking my hand in the mailbox at night without my cheap keyring light. Got one in a Fuku.

correction: I meant the Coast seems to be a bit more focused than the Led Lenser.
