@chienfou My brother says it is just rain, and that they dodged a bullet this time.
He was also pissed that if you’re gonna get hit by two storms back to back, and one is named Marco, they shoulda insisted the other one (Laura) be renamed Polo.
I’m surprised that everytime a weather person mentions “Marco”, the studio crew don’t holler “Polo” just for shits and giggles.
They’re talking a lot about how bad it’s going to be in north LA tomorrow. Last prediction I saw this morning showed it coming right for us, and supposed to still be Cat 1 strength when it gets to our camp about an hour south of here. Schools have been closed and the air force base is essential personnel only for the next two days. We’ve been given the option to WFH tomorrow.
I think the last time a hurricane of any consequence came right for us here was Rita. I expect lots of wind and rain but we don’t have to deal with anything like the coast does.
Having a huge sad for the folks in Lake Charles, Lafayette, Evangeline, Cameron, Morgan City, Houma, Thibodaux and parts east, and including New Orleans, especially the West Bank and Jeff Parish.
Remembering Katrina and just finished watching Treme. I pray everyone and loved ones in the path makes it through this okay.
@therealjrn
thankfully the surge was not as bad as they had predicted.
Sadly it was still way more than the area was prepared to handle.
Video drone footage is staggering.
Loss of life was more than it should have been due to CO poisoning.
Some lessons have to be repeated too many times before they sink in…
Not I!
(bump.)
News here just said they though Houston is the most likely direct hit.
I moved out of Texas a month ago, but I’m sympathetic so I’ll see about opening the borders of Oregon to refugees when they hit.
I was in NOLA last week. Glad I missed this shitshow.

I’m sorry I made light of Laura earlier.

Laura has strengthened a ton over last day
@CaptAmehrican Storm surge is ‘not survivable’, yet there are literal diehards refusing to evacuate.
Well eye has come ashore.
