@Kawa I’m there. I had $40 in my account but it wouldn’t let me lend anything other that $25, $50, and so on. But she got $25 from me for her new shitter.
I’ve been keeping the same $200 rolling around on Kiva since the first year they started. In some ways it was nicer before they got so much publicity and became A Big Deal for gifting. These days, by the time you spot a borrower you like they’re funded already. I used to enjoy hunting for loans that needed their last $25 so I could tip them into the fully funded category, but that’s pretty much impossible now. So I just look for a photo and bio that sounds appealing and hope for the best. In the long run, it’s all good.
Can’t add myself to the Meh team, though, as I’m already committed to the Agnostics, Atheists, and Free Thinkers folks. (I got their name a little wrong, but I’m a bit brain dense this morning.)
@Kawa I’m still doing it, quietly. All my loans I make Team Meh though.
It’s nice that so many people do things like this without needing to brag about it like it’s something special. It’s not, it’s called caring and should be done without having to post to everybody as if to say “Look at me! Look at this thing I did! I took Kleenex to the old folk’s home!” lol
I find it interesting that even though I changed my name in Kiva, it kept the default name in this URL. Oh well. If I really cared if ya’ll knew my first name I would try obfuscate this…
Anyway, it will be buried in the forum quickly enough.
Edit: link updated to my username and not first name…
@jst1ofknd@Kawa Yes, just go to the Kiva main page and click around. They’ve got little popups it looks like now so I couldn’t find a FAQ page all in one place. There is some risk, but at $25 or so a loan, you’re not going to be losing much.
I’ve been doing it for awhile now and have been lucky to have not had a loan not get repaid. I have lost a few dollars in exchange rates, but very little.
I’m not worried. I was just confused by the rating symbols. It seems like with a name like that, then the more you have of it, the higher the risk. You put it in stars and 5 stars (which we want more of) means the highest risk just did not compute.
I did finally find the right FAQ and clarified the more stars the less risk…

@medz “UNmehFICIAL”!
@medz @mfladd
/giphy totally.
Resurrecting this thread, as I noticed I had over $25 available to pass forward.
In honor of the new badges on these here forums, have a Vietnamese woman looking to build a hygienic bathroom!

@Kawa @therealjrn y’all funded it. Good job. Everyone needs a place to poop.
@Kawa @RiotDemon @therealjrn Even Astronauts need a place to poop.

I gave to

I’m not sure if I did what’s needed to credit that to team Meh. Oh well.
@sligett I went in to do this one also but she’s already funded. I’ll have to take some time and find a new loan.

Resurrecting this thread yet again as I’ve hit $25 to pass forward:
Macario in Peru raises goats and other animals, and would like to diversify to also grow corn.
https://www.kiva.org/lend/1678594
@Kawa
A loan of $450 helps to buy seeds and to maintain his corn crop.
I aint no farmer, but Imma Okie. That thar man has some funny looking corn I tell ya.
25 bucks matched, plus another 50 to buy snacks for his goats.
Are folks still doing this? Anyone have any suggested loans to donate to?

To paraphrase…
Don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing.
That’s the right attitude.
That being said, this is my first time. This person doesn’t have much to go before he is at the top. What do ya’ll think?

@jst1ofknd @Kawa squeeeee! Goats! Yes!
@Kawa @therealjrn
Was there somewhere that explained the Field Borrower Risk Rating? Do you want high stars or low stars? I has confusion.

Can someone confirm this is the right team?
@jst1ofknd looks like what I remember.
@RiotDemon
Thanks! I also looked at the members and found a couple of names I know.
I’m in and looking for my first loan!
