Kickstarter bleg: How To Serve Man
5I wouldn't stake my valuable reputation (haw haw!) on just any Kickstarter junk. But a cool-looking board game about an alien chef competition where the featured ingredient is human flesh? It really seems like some of you might dig How To Serve Man. Especially since it's co-designed by the winner of the first Shirt.Woot Analog Derby and the best (only) brother I have, Jamie Toon. I know I'm risking being spammy here, but come on: this game looks ridiculously cool and we both know it.

Hmmm.... Here's the instruction manual.
Wait, there's a little dust on it....
Wait, more dust....
Ooops, missed a spot...
Looks pretty great! I really like the art and concept, and in general I'm a fan of worker placement games.
If all of the boardgames I already have weren't going woefully unplayed right now then I might be tempted to give it a shot.
with a side of fava beans and a nice chianti.
Is this the place for constructive criticism, or are we limited to pats on the back?
@JasonToon I'd like a sense of how it's fun. The theme is nice, but I need to understand the gameplay. Right now, I see rules and minutia. I want to see the "light worker placement" in action. I want to see people getting screwed or succeeding. BrotherToon's explanation is a dry reading of the user manual pictures. It's unexciting. Also, no call to action.
See Exploding Kittens video for comparison. If that's too high of a bar, see Good Cop, Bad Cop. Your brother is the guy on the right. Maybe the game is great and the design is great; I want BrotherToon there on game night to tell me how to play - but maybe he's not the right type of writer or performer for selling it.
@JerseyFrank or maybe he is, and I'm just not seeing it in this video.
@JerseyFrank And people love good game bits. It looks like you've got some designed, but never mention them
@JerseyFrank Thanks! Constructive criticism is welcome. That sense of "how it's fun" could be sharper, I agree.
@JerseyFrank I know they weren't quite able to get a real playthrough video together in time, but I think it's on the way. Anyway, I'll pass on your comments! Thanks again!
@JerseyFrank I should also add, he's a pretty charismatic and funny performer, judging by the bands he's been in. He should let it show more in this video.
@JasonToon He might want to invest in a better camera too . . . You can notice it searching for focus early in the video. But I have an ultra-critical eye for that kind of thing.
