That definitely shouldn't bother you as much as it does, Irk. Though the sitting on my fob and hearing my horns blare as though someone has just broken into my car is indeed annoying. But my fob has a secret key inside it that can be used to unlock my door if the fob is dead! And the front of the fob can activate my car by touching the metal to the go button, even if the fob is dead too! -=C=-
I feel ya, brah! If my daughter gets a hold of mommy's key fob, I not only have to worry about the doors becoming unlocked, but also the panic alarm going off, the side doors opening, the rear gate opening, or it even remote starting. Baby loves pushing buttons...
I have to hear the chirp. My car will lock the doors at first, then if I press again it will chirp. As if to say "yes sir, the doors are locked". I don't feel secure if I don't hear the chirp.
I have never seen a car where the "chirp" cannot be disabled. That said, I haven't seen all that many cars, but I also know most owners have not explored their owners manuals very well (read: at all) to know these things. Meh.
I'm with the learned Irk on this one. I have enough things that go 'beep' in my house that when there's a beeping, it's a major hunt. Is it one of the leakfrogs? (Really, they still do come in handy) - the dryer? - the microwave? - an old watch that's come to life?
I love keyless entry. I love keyless start more. I love it so much that now I get upset when I have to pull out my keys to unlock my house. I fully intend to get an RFID reader for my front door one of these days.
As for the beeps and boops, they're only in place for electronic devices with no tactile feedback. You don't need a beep when you unlock a door manually because you can feel the tumblers turn. That's not the case with an electronic lock.
That being said, I disabled the loud beep my Prius made while in reverse the first week I had it.
I love my little Dart's remote start. But I never use the remote to lock it or unlock, who needs that? Is it too much effort to hit the lock button when you get out of the car? To unlock it you just put your hand near the door, far easier than fumbling around looking for the fob to unlock it. I really hate those assholes that get out of their car, walk halfway across the parking lot, then turn to remotely lock it. What the hell is with that? "Oh look at me! I got a fancy remote lock!" Fuck you asshole! Too stupid to find the lock button on the door? As I said though, I LOVE my remote start. Here in Florida it's so nice to get into a car that's already cooling off.
I disabled the beeping on my locking/unlocking, and man do I ever love the remote start. Warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, what's not to love but the gas mileage?
With a few exceptions (newer BMWs, etc.) - There is a physical key in the fob and a lock on the driver's side. The chirps can be disabled. But the real reason the new fob keys are in? Personalization. These trends start with the high end cars and trickle down. With the luxury brands - your key knows your settings, your preferences, and some of your habits. Say you and a spouse both drive this car sometimes; your key approaches the drivers side of the vehicle, your car automatically starts moving the seat, steering wheel, side mirrors, and changing stereo options. Then your spouse goes to drive the vehicle - their key has their settings. The unlocking of the car is just a perk of an overall system that is meant to anticipate your wants/needs. Everything else is icing on the fob... cake...
I just want my remote to tell me if the car is locked. That way those of us who get paranoid about that kind of thing will be rest assured that the car is locked. And if my garage door would do the same ... (well actually, apparently there is an add-on gizmo I can get for that ... that may be the next home improvement purchase for me ...)

Beep boop beep
Thank you Irk for the different colored fish......

Coleman's principle - he was a wise man, indeed. Even if he never knew what people were talking about.
He just didn't know what Willis was talking about.
I'm sure he didn't know what Mr. D was talking about either. (I was gonna say Willis, but the internet says that might not be right for me.)

Yeah mine only chirps the second time. The first time the lights flash.

Meh.
First thing we did when my spouses car made a very loud beep was to have the dealer disable it.

YES. Even my refrigerator beeps at me when the doors are open a certain length of time.
Car alarms are so much more maddening to me. But maybe that's the thing, they bother me as much as they should.
My key fob panic button is the only reason my truck's alarm ever sounds. It alerts me of DANGERS like something bumping my keys in my pocket
That's always fun, thinking "some stupid asshole's alarm is going off, what a -- oh, the stupid asshole is me."

Yes, for the front door. Because when I'm carrying 14 grocery bags (because I refuse to make two trips) it would be so much easier.

They turn around to check to verify it locked. (flashing lights) They could have forgotten to lock it or are just OCD/paranoid.
Also, you say "put your hand near the door" does that entail aligning your key with the hole or do you have keyless entry via the fob?
@medz That's why I'm doing it. The battery is weak, and I'm often double checking it worked.
I like to use the fob to lock mine. It forces me to remove them from the ignition before locking. No good reason, really.
I do get self conscious when I park my car, wave hi to the family whose house I just parked in front of, and then lock the door with a beep.
I disabled the beeping on my locking/unlocking, and man do I ever love the remote start. Warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, what's not to love but the gas mileage?

My husband's key for our mustang makes the car make an awful noise when he goes over 80mph.
Following the manual's instructions to disable it did not help.
That would bug the shit out of me. Enough to take it to the dealership and make them disable it.

I know this is old but I'm still posting it. [insert something awkward but possibly mildly amusing yet annoying here]
