That name cracks me up every time I see it. Caloric intake. 2 frying baskets equals double bypass surgery in your future. 3 frying baskets? Consider yourself already dead.
Eh, I was stupid and bought the last fryer that was sold. Haven't touched it since, too much clean up and pan-frying is less of a hassle. Have fun impulse buyers.
Nobody in their take-care-of-the-canola-oil good sense would fry onions and potatoes in the same oil. Likewise fish and potatoes. Likewise jello and potatoes.
@RedOak ah, contraire! Homemade fries with onions (not onion rings, just slivers of onion) are a WONDERFUL combination! My wife used to fry them together all the time. The little crispy onions added so much taste...
Lots of the convenience foods in my freezer are pretty tasty, even when the package says "bake 35 minutes at 400." Like, frozen egg rolls, Farmer John corn dogs, those bags of sweet potato fries, fish sticks, tater tots... We also use a fryer to make those "hash brown patties" for breakfast when company's over, which is always popular.
Look, I'm not saying you should fire up the frier weekly, but it is kind of fun for special occasions. And if you have only ever fried in a big pot on the stove the dedicated fryer makes it less stressful (because you can't scorch the food) and less expensive (because you don't have to dump the oil in order to get your spaghetti-boilin' pot back into service. Toss that old bread machine you haven't used since 2009 to make some space in the appliance cabinet, and getcha a fryer, while they're still legal...
I guess I still have to thank and old ex girlfriend for infecting me....with the question, "Is it hard to clean?" We were looking at kitchen gadgets by the way.
@thismyusername Wow, you learn something new everyday... I didn't even know this event takes place every year just a dozen miles from me: http://tinyurl.com/bv2bpdw I'll have to check it out next year! 😉
@Mandamm (Can)adian oil alliance. According to the people at inter-mountain Canola where my mom used to work as a lab technician. I once did a science fair project studying the effects of defoliation on rapeseed. Fascinating plant.
If you can promise me tomorrow's deal is a cheap biodiesel car that will run on my used oil, I'm in. Just be sure it has a heavy duty suspension as my future will consist of eating only fried foods.
@Not_Ken_M you'd probably get something more like puffed rice tbh which could be cool until it all starts spilling out of the basket and your kitchen turns into a mess
Years ago, I was at a K-Mart that had a little food area and ordered a hot dog. The person behind the counter put the hot dog in the deep fryer to heat it up. A: Is this normal? B: In terms of pure physics, does the fat from the oil go into the hot dog or does the hot dog fat go into the oil?
@radi0j0hn technically speaking... I believe it depends on the water content of the hot dog. My understanding is that deep frying is done at high temperatures so that moisture in the food quickly vaporizes, creating a positive pressure inside the food which then keeps the oil from seeping in while the outside cooks to a crisp.
So, I'd guess that if you have a dog thats really greasy to begin with and it takes more heat/time to vaporize that oil than an equivalent amount of water, then you'd end up with fry oil going into the hotdog.
I bought the smaller one last time we had them on the site and love it. One of the best things I bought on Meh. We don't use it all the time, but it works great for making fried chicken, all kinds of potatoes, and weird recipes you find on Tasty videos.
Just a word to the wise. When you deep fry something the oil takes on the smell and flavor of the item you are frying. So for example the picture on the onion rings and french fries. You will end up with french fries that taste like onions. If you like that then cool. Otherwise I recommend that you only fry one type of food at a time, and save the strongest flavor for last.
The only down side to these is they are expensive. They use a lot of oil. That said, the are only way to maintain proper heat even then you have to watch the temperature because you may cool your oil if you cook to any big things too quickly.
As I'm sure most haven't noticed...I haven't been around lately. Long story short. Hospitalization and test after fucking test. I have been WAITING for one of these mother fuckers for over a year now. Finally able to handle even the most basic of tasks..so of course...I check Meh and boom disappointment. @hollboll@mehcus@galmaegi any chance the number was off?
@studerc Bummer, hope you are doing well, or at least better, my friend. But, no. As of now we are sold out and don't have any extras. Probably for the best anyways, that fried shit will put your right back in the hospital, amiright?
Hoping to get back in the swing of things here in the next few days!
The wife informed me i have a huge stack of these white plastic enveloped packages sitting at home...like a bunch of them. I am intrigued. Stay tuned everyone.
Yay! Ours got here yesterday, was supposed to be delivered next Monday.
We're both excited about this purchase. I've wanted a new deep fryer for years now (I've had one own my Amazon wish list, but could never justify the cost). I'm looking forward to making more than a dozen potato chips at a time. A sliced CostCo baking potato (you know how big those things are) takes two hours to turn into potato chips with my current mini fryer.
Hubby is looking forward to making his shrimp again.
On the shopping list is oil, frozen shrimp, frozen fries, and other fun things.
@bwframe No bueno! You can hit up the warranty provider (check out the specs post at the top) to see if they can send you one. If that doesn't pan out, head to meh.com/support to see whst they can do to help.
Finally got ours out of the box today. Made some fried potato things, shrimp, I think I missed a few other items that people were trying in it.
Doesn't seem too bad. I think I might try it on a few things. I know theoretically, oil is good for like ever, but I wonder how true that is. I also half expect that having a tank of cooking oil around a house with 4 teenagers likely means that we'll find 3 of them and the entire kitchen covered in oil one day.

Oh good, I was looking for something to take up space on my counter forever that I never use.
That name cracks me up every time I see it. Caloric intake. 2 frying baskets equals double bypass surgery in your future. 3 frying baskets? Consider yourself already dead.
@Stallion That's Kalorik with two "Ks"...makes all the difference. <--dripping sarcasm, deep-fried sarcasm with dripping oily fat!. Yum!
I hate fryday, but mostly because of this meh.
To fry or not to fry...that is the cholesterol.
Meh.
Yum, blocked arteries!
@f00l You don't have to use it all the time. Just leave it on the counter.
Oddly, I've wanted a fryer for a while. I hate pan frying (The splattering oil freaks me out) and my SO loves latkes. Easy solution.
@Jamileigh17 meet @Mofongo
@RedOak Mofongo is delicious!
Eh, I was stupid and bought the last fryer that was sold. Haven't touched it since, too much clean up and pan-frying is less of a hassle. Have fun impulse buyers.
@Mofongo meet @Jamileigh17
Haha Friday, I get it!
@axleman1011 Yay, it's DFF!?
Yay, a cornballer!
SOY LOCO POR LOS CORNBALLS!!
@Fartstick yuck. Those are two separate delicacies, not meant to be mixed.
Do you think when the doctor said I need to follow a low fat diet, that means I just set the basket lower in the fryer? If so, I am in.
@ThreeTrees "Wanna lose ten pounds of ugly fat? Cut off your head." Ancient joke.
@ThreeTrees Yes, you are correct.
@radi0j0hn If I want to lose 200 pounds of ugly fat, I will divorce my husband. Another ancient joke.
@ThreeTrees You're actually raising the level of the fat here, relative to the food.
@awk So maybe he means, just use a lower level of fat in the fryer? For sure that would be low fat. Very smart! Thanks for your help.
@ThreeTrees I would put it on the floor, just to be safe.
@awk Maybe even in the basement.
I only have fries for you, dear.
Lots of the convenience foods in my freezer are pretty tasty, even when the package says "bake 35 minutes at 400." @2palms
Why not?
@2palms What do you do with the oil you use to cook? What is cleanup like?
@exoduswm i pour mine into my neighbor's heating oil inlet. win-win-win
Reminder: You will be going through gallons of oil.
@trisk Costco: about 5 gallons (4.55 to be fairly precise) of wonderful canola oil for less than 20 bucks.
@trisk That's what she said!
@trisk Did a double-take on your screen name. We're almost MEH twinsies! Happy Friday. :-)
Note you cannot fry with all three baskets at the same time. You either fry with the one large basket or the two smaller "loaf" baskets.
@mike808 I'm making a loaf basket right now.
I guess I still have to thank and old ex girlfriend for infecting me....with the question, "Is it hard to clean?" We were looking at kitchen gadgets by the way.
@radi0j0hn "Is it hard to clean?" Literally 'that's what she said'!
Deep fried mushrooms!
@rearly Rocky Mountain oysters!
@Kerig3
@thismyusername Wow, you learn something new everyday... I didn't even know this event takes place every year just a dozen miles from me: http://tinyurl.com/bv2bpdw
I'll have to check it out next year! 😉
@Kerig3 I can't say I've ever had turkey frys... interesting....
I bought the last one and its still in its box for reasons
BTW, Canola Oil isn't special.. It is called Canola because it is made in Canada.. We have all been deceived!!!
@Mandamm because Canada sounds nicer than rapeseed.
@Mandamm (Can)adian oil alliance. According to the people at inter-mountain Canola where my mom used to work as a lab technician. I once did a science fair project studying the effects of defoliation on rapeseed. Fascinating plant.
Read the Highlights. Fried veggies are good.
I've actually been wanting a new fryer for a while now...I wish it was the slimmer single-basket model, but:
repulsive-reclusive-turtle
@Yakroot More oil means less of a temperature drop when the food is added.
Feb 26: The day meh has decided that a critical mass of people have officially given up on their New Years resolutions.
@bakerzdosen You may have just won this thread if for nothing but the critical mass double entendre . . .
@Pavlov @bakerzdosen also gets points for the username.
Fighting the urge. I want to make falafel again, but I really don't need a deep fryer the rest of the time.
does anyone have info on clean up on this? I used to have a deep fryer and I liked it but draining the oil was freaking pain in the ass
PICKLES
To fry or not to fry that is the question - meh I'll skip or I'll be a basket case
Perfect for making my Schweddy Balls!
@Kerig3 I thought of the corn ball maker from Arrested Development...know what I'm talking about?
@Trask
It's Speaker Dock Fryday, without the Speaker Dock.
@heartny Will no one speak up about this travesty? Not a bluetooth nor aux in (my favorite) in sight.
manual http://www.kalorik.com/site/pdfs/FT26175_IB.pdf
@jro2020 Is that a different manual than the one linked above in the specs?
whew this is good thought I might have to buy something. My fry daddy also doubles as a meat fondue pot, this one won't do that well.
Wow, this large for this cheap, good deal. I already have a decent fryer, otherwise, i'd be really tempted.
If you can promise me tomorrow's deal is a cheap biodiesel car that will run on my used oil, I'm in. Just be sure it has a heavy duty suspension as my future will consist of eating only fried foods.
Will this make fried rice?
@Not_Ken_M I'm going to assume you have no idea how fried rice is made.
@Not_Ken_M If you periscope it, I'll watch.
@Not_Ken_M you'd probably get something more like puffed rice tbh which could be cool until it all starts spilling out of the basket and your kitchen turns into a mess
anyway JUST DO IT
If only there were another word for 4 quarts...
@FredWallace18 3.785412 liters
@rusty1f .008 butts
@FredWallace18 128 ounces
@FredWallace18 1 quadraquart
"There's nothing wrong with your life that 4 quarts of deep-frying glory can't fix."
Fantastic. I almost bought this because of that line.
So the subject says "Kalorik 4-Quart Professional Style Triple Basket Deep Fryer" But the specs say "4L (1qt) capacity"
Which is it? 4L or 1qt?
(And yes, I googled the model number and verified it's really 4 quarts, just being a typical pedantic asshole.)
@Serk they are clearly talking about the amount of food you can put into the fryer after the oil is hot.
@Serk beat me to it
Years ago, I was at a K-Mart that had a little food area and ordered a hot dog. The person behind the counter put the hot dog in the deep fryer to heat it up. A: Is this normal? B: In terms of pure physics, does the fat from the oil go into the hot dog or does the hot dog fat go into the oil?
@radi0j0hn I've only ever seen a hot dog wiener in the fryer when its a corn dog, or if it has bacon wrapped around it...
mmm bacon
@radi0j0hn technically speaking... I believe it depends on the water content of the hot dog. My understanding is that deep frying is done at high temperatures so that moisture in the food quickly vaporizes, creating a positive pressure inside the food which then keeps the oil from seeping in while the outside cooks to a crisp.
So, I'd guess that if you have a dog thats really greasy to begin with and it takes more heat/time to vaporize that oil than an equivalent amount of water, then you'd end up with fry oil going into the hotdog.
Kaloric has another deep fryer with not so great reviews. Interestingly, http://www.walmart.com/ip/17623537 claims it holds 4 liters, http://smile.amazon.com/Kalorik-Professional-Style-Deep-Fryer-4-Qt/dp/B004DPHZQA says 4 quarts.

I bought the smaller one last time we had them on the site and love it. One of the best things I bought on Meh. We don't use it all the time, but it works great for making fried chicken, all kinds of potatoes, and weird recipes you find on Tasty videos.
@hollboll Fried chicken should be made in nothing other than a well seasoned cast iron pan. Heathen.
Not quite frying, but I once put my jello on the grill at a korean BBQ place. They swiftly came over and turned off my grill.
The only down side to these is they are expensive. They use a lot of oil. That said, the are only way to maintain proper heat even then you have to watch the temperature because you may cool your oil if you cook to any big things too quickly.
Anyone have any idea if this can hold a cut up chicken (or, if not, how many pieces of fried chicken you could make in here)?
can i re-fry beans with this?
sore-neurotic-passenger ... Definitely fitting. I'll be an overweight, anxiety-stricken passenger sleeping in the car because fried carbs.
Gah. Fuck. Really?
As I'm sure most haven't noticed...I haven't been around lately. Long story short. Hospitalization and test after fucking test. @hollboll @MEHcus @galmaegi
Totally understand. Thanks for checking in.
Hoping to get back in the swing of things here in the next few days!

@studerc
Be well, @studerc.
@studerc Hope you feel better soon. By the way, check your email.
@studerc I hope each day brings you renewed strength. Be well my friend.
well, Meh, this setting of DEEPFATFRY works.
please reset to DEEPFATFRY.2
