Jet.com membership is now free
8Guess they either discovered they're making enough profit on the merchandise or they're not signing up enough paying customers. Either way, if you hadn't landed a free membership in the infinite variety of methods they had offered, go right ahead and join up for free. Selection is definitely limited but there are some really good deals to be had if you take your time and shop wisely. I highly recommend it for items that you need multiples of as the discount drops with quantity. Quick example: I needed 40w candelabra bulbs. Best price on Amazon was around $10.50 for a 15 pack. Ordered ten 2 packs (20 bulbs) on Jet for a total of about $7.00. www.jet.com

Shop smart. Save big.
Enjoy $10 OFF
your first order of $35+ with code TENBUCKSNOW
@connorbush There have also been some $15 off $35 codes floating around. Start googling folks.
@cinoclav Not as good but I found a $15 off $50 code YAHOOJET
I have been shopping Jet since day 1. They have incredible customer service. If a product is not as it was advertised, they usually (in my experience) just refund the money and let me keep the product.
With some sleuthing, I have been able to save heaps of money. Not all prices are better but the ones that are make it worth it.
There were a few solid deals there last time I checked, but you have to hunt and price compare pretty carefully. The few deals O'be seen were not worth the time it took to find them.
Have you found it to be better?
@Thumperchick They did send an email out the other day advertising an increased fashion selection. I haven't checked it out but I'd imagine it will be the same issue - a lot of hunting required. One major problem I've run across is seeing a lot of items out of stock. Being that so many items are drop shipped I'd imagine the increased sales have taken some vendors by surprise and they're running out of inventory more quickly than expected. I really wouldn't be shocked if the site didn't last for the long haul but while it's there I'll take advantage when possible.
Thanks @cinoclav, I did. You never know what you might find.
@mfladd Absolutely. Complete no-brainer being free now.
I enjoy Jet, but I have not purchased from them since July. It's not that I do not find good deals, it's that Jet just isn't on my radar the way Amazon is. To give you of an example of an awesome deal, I was able to purchase 12 boxes of baking soda for $0.12 each!!! I use baking soda in the fridge, freezer, for baking, the list goes on and on.
@conandlibrarian Are you building a miniature volcano city with baking soda lava?
@cinoclav
@conandlibrarian They let you do that in prison?
I wonder if Jet should say membership is now free.....for now.
I just bought a lot of detergent and paper plates. Good deal, especially with the $10 off.
Took a look around, didn't see anything significantly cheaper than it is on Amazon. In fact the two things I specifically checked matched Amazon to the penny. As a consumer I'm glad Amazon has another competitor, but I don't think Jet.com is for me.
@Starblind Did you take into account the multiple item discount? Try adding more than one to the cart and see how it compares. Seems that's the real way to save money there.
@Starblind The articles I've read today say that since Jet isn't taking membership money anymore, it's decided to match rather than beat most prices.
I've got all these free one year memberships that are all but fucking worthless. Bastards.
@studerc Sounds like you got what you paid for....paid nothing got nothing. Unless you had to do something to get these free memberships, in that case I understand the frustration.
@MrMark they had a referral program before beta. Perks based on number of referrals. I got 5 free years and a perk box. Not much work, but sucky that such a fancy perk turned to nothing
@studerc. It appears they're giving us early adopters free shipping for the year with no minimum purchase required. And we always have our purple shirts.
Do they have daily videos tho?
@escowhat Well, neither does meh anymore…
how did I read the topic as "Jet.cow membership is now free"
is that mediocre's next site, where they sell jet engines, jet planes, water jets, ink jets, etc?
after all, after Drone.horse, why not Jet.cow?
I had a cart full of stuff at Amazon or in my wish list.
I think Jet had maybe 5% of the items and only a few were very well priced and yes the deals add up when you add them in multiples to the cart.
Bad deals are REALLY Bad Deals! Amazon had a six pack of Seventh Heaven dish soap for like $11 or something like that but at Jet it was $8 for 1 bottle which is even more than at the supermarket!
I was on the phone with a rep as it was my first order and I was just shocked at not finding some basic stuff (thought I was missing something). The guy never suggested adding 6 pcs to see if they would bring the total to $11 ***actually he was rather shocked that Amazon had a 6pk for $11.
Prices are so odd too. One item will have such a variety of prices???
Also you have to be really careful about searches! I copy pasted from Amazon and got a product. I didn't look carefully and ordered it. Turned out to be the exact opposite of what I wanted.
Great to have a return but this item arrived in a tiny envelope by USPS but I had to print out a HUGE FedEx label which didn't have a pickup level so I had to bring it to a drop box (I don't drive). Maybe if I would have complained I could have gotten a USPS label???
I don't understand how this company is still in business, especially now with no member fees. I remember them initially saying member fees was the only place they were making money.
I've made two purchases from them, the first time they gave me 6 free month membership and $10 off my first order. I bought an item that was already listed at $17 off of amazon's price and was tax free, shipped free and let me save another few dollars waiving returns. If what they claimed about giving members the price they were able to get items for, then they were out the $10 off and possibly shipping costs. I had assumed they were willing to take a small loss to build their customer base so it didn't seem that odd.
However the second time they offered me $15 off of $50. I needed a flower pot and some dirt, jet had the stuff I needed for half the price of amazon and compatibly priced to picking it up in a store. I was also able to add a $2.20, 20lbs bag of dirt that gave me a order discount of $2.23. So they paid me to take an extra 20lbs of dirt. By the time my order was done I got about $70 worth of stuff for $33 after all the extra discounts. My order shipped in 5 different boxes from 4 different locations, 2 boxes were over 20lbs. The shipping cost alone had to be more than what I paid.
I have no idea how this company stays afloat.
@metaphore They've pretty much said that the majority of their seed money is going to be lost and they don't expect to see a profit for 5 years. If I was in Vegas and could find someone to lay a line on it, I'd wager they won't be around in 5 years.
@cinoclav It just seems like the losses they are taking are way past not making a profit or acceptable loss. If they some how manage to make it a full year I will be very surprised.
I saved $23 (compared to Amazon and other places I can't remember) on an outdoor grill from Jet thanks to a free trial @Studerc sent to me in the Mehrican exchange. Haven't checked prices for anything else there after that, but I've also only bought like two things from Amazon in the time since. I understand them wanting to get more customers with free open membership, but the Sams Club/Costco-style business model is the only thing that made it interesting to me...
I received a $20 off first purchase coupon in the mail today. Postal mail. I joined Jet, but I've never used it. It appears to be driving them crazy.
@KDemo I have boycotted them since I didn't get stickers and swag (and no I didn't do the referral thing ;) )
JET COUPON - for new customers
$15 off $35 or more
code: 15BUCKSNOW
Now they have
Enjoy 20% OFF
your first order with code SURPRISE20
Will Jet still be around in 12 months?
Their business model was profit from annual fees + referral links. And then sell goods at less than Amazon to draw customers.
Since they stupidly did not directly ask permission before posting referral links, they lost many of the big players.
Now they've given up the annual fee.
My Experience with Jet.
So I spent some time today looking around Jet, with 20% off (up to $50) I figured it was a good time to explore. My goal was to save as much as I could on stuff I would normally buy.
First I have to say I'm not sure I love the site layout, it works ok, but took some hunting to find what I was looking for. To be fair, I was looking for items like Diapers which have crazy amounts of brands, sizes and package size.
Second the way they stack the deals is somewhat annoying and frustrating. For example. My total was $152.xx I had a small dollar item in there, when I removed it my total went to $153.xx (so essentially, they were giving me money to take this item), but when I added it back the total went to $155.xx. So I started playing around with subtracting and re-adding items. When I added and removed a particular item it went down to 133.xx and when I re-added it my total came to 151.xx. So apparently the order you add items in changes the savings matrix they use. Not significantly but a few dollars..which I find weird.
Also, you need to watch quantity, different quantities gives you better or worse discounts on a per item basis. Sometimes buying 1 item makes the most sense, sometimes more than 1 makes more sense, if you are looking to reduce your per item cost to the least possible amount.
Anyway's onto the savings:
Jets claimed savings: $88.76:
40.75 in extra/bundle savings
48.01 in promo code savings (20% off code)
So I calculated my savings based on where I normally purchase these items from. Now for items like diapers I calculated savings to taking my normal cost per diaper (at Sams club) vs the price I paid at Jet. This is an attempt to eliminate the different size boxes. Sams Club size 5 are 120, Jet Size 5 are 108.
Now I don't claim to shop for the absolute best deal. A lot of times it's about convenience for me. Sams club has diapers in a big box and a consistent price that's decent so I buy them there. I don't shop for the best sale.
Total Spent at Jet: $151.03
My "normal" cost: $265.61
Savings: $114.58
Of that savings:
$48.01 is onetime savings (Coupon code for 1st order)
$8.55 is sales tax (which I technically need to pay with my tax return in the form of use tax)
$54.67 is savings at Jet vs typical store I purchase from.
$3.35 in avoided sales/use tax by paying lower price
TL:DR version: Jet is a bit confusing, but savings can be had, especially if you take advantage of current 20% total order coupon code. I'm guessing this is a YMMV sort of scenario depending on how savvy of a shopper you are to begin with.
