I've got a bad feeling about this.

Why would you ruin a Coke Zero with that swill?
@yakkoTDI There is decent whiskey, and terrible whiskey, and Jack. The folks at Coke doubtless recognized that Jack & Coke is a popular mix in a lot of places, particularly among the just-over-21 set who have never had decent whiskey - and want the vileness masked by something that can cover it. Personally, I have found that Sturgeon’s Law is a bit of an underestimate; a lot more than 90% of all whisky is crap. But there are exceptions. One is made in Texas, as ludicrously unlikely as that may seem. And oddly enough, the Japanese have figured out how to make a Scotch-style whiskey that is remarkably potable - which, to my taste, the Scots generally have not.
@werehatrack Are all of the JDs crap? They make more than No7. Single Barrel, Gentleman Jack, etc.
At least it has flavor, unlike that gasoline they call “tequila”.
@werehatrack
And your potable Texas whiskey is?
Ironroot, Balcones, Garrison Brothers, Herman Marshall?
@mike808 Milam & Greene.
@werehatrack I’ll have to do a taste test then.
For Science!
@mike808 The triple-cask bourbon and the port-finished rye are both very good.
@yakkoTDI As a Tennesee Squire for over 40 years,I have to take offense to your characterization of JD.It was my first,and only choice for years.Tried the Jim Beam,Wild Turkey,Old Grand Dad,and whatever else was considered “good whiskey” available in most bars back in the late 70’s.I would ask,“Who the fuck would dump Coke into it”? On the rocks was always my preference for any whiskey.As I aged and mellowed,so did my taste buds,and I’ve been very happy with Crown Royal over crushed ice for many years.I see the advent of the niche distilleries (a new one every month) for people with the financial means to anounce their obscure brand find that most have never heard of,sing it’s praises,look down their noses,and call everything else swill.Fuck you I say.News flash…we all have different taste buds.I’ve tasted a few $100 plus whiskies and could not justify taste vs. cost.I would have even labeled a couple as “swill”,but that would have been rude to the host,wouldn’t it?
@mike808 @werehatrack And at least the product uses Jack Daniel’s unlike Smirnoff and others who I believe add some malt concoction for the alcohol.Give them credit for truth in advertising anyway.
@detailer @werehatrack I will say that I’ve also had some Irish whiskeys that were pretty fucking tasty. Not your bar variety Bushnell’s, but the older varieties with at least a decade under their belts.
Old bourbons do hit a “prime” when more aging doesn’t help (maybe after the 20 year mark?). Scotch whiskeys (re-used barrels) take far longer than their fresh wood bourbon counterparts to mellow and develop nuances from the aging process itself, including climate over the duration.
@detailer @werehatrack
Don’t get me started on “hard seltzer”. Which this is, in part, clearly Coke’s play in that space.
Does nobody remember why nobody liked Zima and all the related “near beers”? Hard seltzer is just the same shit, without the extra steps of having to make the beer.
@mike808 @werehatrack OMG Forgot about Zima.Repulsive shit,and only girls drank it around here.Nothing says “gay boy” like a Zima in your hand or a 100’s smoke hang’n off your lip
@detailer @mike808 I have little doubt that a good many of the hard seltzers actually use ethanol produced by Cargill, whose principal market is for fuel.
@mike808 @werehatrack Oh great.So there should be regular mid grade and premium,right?
@detailer @werehatrack
Hey, come on. B&H Menthol Slim 100s were cool in the 80s. The only thing better than those were clove cigarettes. The real OG imported-from-turkey ones.
And not because we were “gay boys”, but because as “straight boys” we knew that the hot chicks would always come to us to bum a smoke off of. Dudes that smoked Marlboro Reds or Camel unfiltered never had chicks introduce themselves to get a smoke.
And being the only “straight boys” in the gay bars played right into the hot chicks’ fantasy that they’re feminine enough to “convert” us.
And if they already had a boyfriend, even better. Much easier to compete against only one dude.
LOL. Man, I miss the 80s and the 90s.

@mike808 @werehatrack Interesting.I grew up in a redneck area,and any 100’s just weren’t cool.I remember the OG cloves and think they are still available at smoke shops in PA.We used to re-roll them with some good weed…yeaaaaah buddy! The guys that got the chicks smoked Marlboro reds,drank Bud cans,and had pickup trucks that required a short ladder (or a two handed butt push) to get into.Yeah,best I can remember,I miss those days too.And fucking Eddie Murphy made me laugh to tears!
@detailer @mike808 @werehatrack
Man, that’s cold… How did Eddie feel about that?

@detailer @mike808 @werehatrack And what, pray tell, is wrong with being a gay boy?
@detailer @mike808 @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack
Nothing at all… But laughing about a sexual encounter is generally a bad idea… Makes it sound like a cell block rape.
@mike808 @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack Nothing.One of my best friends in high school turned out to be gay,but it wasn’t until a couple years later that I realized it.It was the 70’s and I wasn’t very perceptive in my youth.It didn’t change a thing for me.A good friend is a good friend no matter what
I wonder if it will taste like the cola flavored jack daniels cocktail that has existed for a while.
@er1c Results will depend upon whether the taster likes Coke, I suspect. I’ve heard very mixed comments about the JD&Cola; most like it, but some grouse that it’s too sweet. It’s pretty obviously not actual Coke in the original version, but it was at least a decent cola, and clearly not some gross crap like the swill that Food Lion has in their house brand.
@er1c @werehatrack OK Mini pole time thread followers.Of the three (only these three in their original form) Coke Pepsi or RC. My vote is for Royal Crown
@detailer @er1c @werehatrack Pepsi, but the few times I drink it, it is usually in a Cuba Libre, with fresh lime to cut the sweetness. (Not a big fan of any sodas.)
