@JonT really? i swear i had a pic of me in some other thread.
on the bottom of the box it came in, it says "Your stainless steel flask is specially designed to carry alcoholic drinks". who am i to argue with the prophetic sayings of the box?
That thing is fucking glorious. After receiving a notice today that a bill for $8570 from my son's accident isn't being paid out until resolution with the school comes. I need all the drinks.
@vampje He got injured at school, and they've been very lax about everything. Since they haven't responded to the hospital's requests for information, we're stuck until things with them get resolved. The hospital is being great and holding the account for a few months and we did hear from the lawyers that the school wants to settle, but for now we are in the hook for it since our hmo won't pay until who's responsible gets worked out. As the kid says, "welcome to the summer of suck".
It's not that bad, in terms of summers. But when all this gets done and he's as healed as they can get him, there will be a party.
@vampje Thank you, very much. He's proven that he's incredibly tough and amazes me. I couldn't be more proud. He can't do anything involving water, dirt, or risk of impact, so it's been a great deal of just chilling. But I just bought tickets to take him to his first show for his 14th birthday at the end of the summer. He's a huge Weird Al fan and will die of the happy.
Okay, I apologize in advance for the terrible pictures, I wasn't there and my wife didn't have her good phone (battery died during the show).
We're REALLY big Weird Al fans around here, especially @MrsPavlov and my son. So for my son's 11th birthday, the Mrs. takes him to Weird Al a few weeks ago here in KC.
They say it was an amazing show and the reviews were incredible. I didn't get to go - I still wasn't feeling well enough and they had me locked down in the rehab joint.
However, after the show, @MrsPavlov and my son hang out at the bus and get to meet Al.
Al signing for my wife:
Al signing for my son (note that he's scared shitless and security has to basically push him into the bus):
Al signed my son's shirt (which was an old tour shirt of Al's twice as old as my son) and has a brief conversation with him (I think he shit himself again):
And finally AL SIGNING MY WIFE'S MEH.COM FUKUBUKURO BAG:
I wish I could have been there.
She doesn't let any of us touch that bag anymore.
I hope your son is feeling better soon, he'll have a great first concert!
(My son's first concert [he was seven] was Ozzy, I know, I'm either a terrible parent or the coolest one ever, depending on your viewpoint. The poor child had a contact high for a day, but loves Ozzy)
@Pavlov That's amazing! I just can't wait to share this with him. He's worked so hard to get better and done everything anyone has told him, even when it hurts like hell. I love it when he comes to me and asks if I've ever heard of Weird Al, The Animals, Skynyrd, or some other such artist that of course I know. It's great seeing ways in which we are similar. He really likes listening to music right before bed. The other night I sent him on his way with Metallica's One. He thanked me in the morning. I love that he enjoys classic rock and bluegrass. He hasn't been to a real concert yet, but musically he's had a couple interesting moments. His dad used to have a joint birthday party with his friend and one year, they had the Presidents of the United States of America play the party. My guy was only 6 at the time and all he knew was that they were a band and he wanted to play musical chairs. They kept playing their own music and he just kept shutting them down. Finally they played a nursery rhyme and he said, "Yes, that's so much better than the other stuff!"
@jaremelz: @MrsPavlov says: "After the show, head for the bus. There will be two - you want the red one. You'll know exactly where it is (pay close attention to the beginning of the show) and if you're early enough you'll get a spot in the queue. If everyone stays cool, Al will sign from the steps of his bus. It is unusual for him to speak during this time and he will not pose for photos (he sells VIP tickets if you want pics with him), but he will sign - he never lets down his fans if they wait and they are polite. If you can snap a quick photo, they're cool with it - but if you try to take a selfie, they'll close the line. You'll wait about an hour and a half - but if he takes a shine to you, it is totally worth it (he held up the line talking about Meh and the Fuku bag and laughed his off). If you have your son wear a tour shirt, he MAY sign it if you ask ahead of time politely. If you wear a vintage tour shirt, he'll be more likely to sign it - but only if your son is wearing it and they think he won't freak if Al touches him."
She's seen him in concert six or seven times (I've lost track), met him after every concert - always got something signed.
@Pavlov - So, theoretically he could be reading this. Hmmm, wonder if it would be too difficult for Weird Al to parody the TMBG meh theme? It would probably need more lyrics. Oooh, or he could do a Mad Ape Den song!
@Pavlov@MrsPavlov is my hero. And I don't have many of those. I could try and say that I hesitated at buying tickets what with everything we've got going on (and all the money going out because of it) but I didn't think twice. That's what the credit card is for (ok, not really but sshh) and he needs to live a little. It's at the fairgrounds, so hopefully we can get there early and scope out the bus location. Thanks for the info!
@jaremelz Let him know that I'm a lifelong fan of Al too. I can still sing "Melanie" by heart. I remember as a child playing the album for some adults who didn't "get it" until I deadpanned, "Here, listen to this love song he wrote."
@Pavlov hey, that's the tour he was on when I went to go see him live! I've only seen him live once at that concert but it was well beyond my expectations. I couldn't believe all of the costume changes and video accompaniment.
@Pavlov We are well versed in always buying bigger. I'm the family dwarf at 5'11"and my teen's dad is 6'4". The kid just started his big growth spurt. We are doomed. @JerseyFrank, that was the song that really hooked me, and not just because it involved my name. After that, I found that if someone just couldn't get it, they probably wouldn't understand me. Thankfully, in the midst of all my Metallica, The Bubblemen, The Cramps, The Smiths, and John Wesley Harding, my mom loved Al and let me play it throughout the house as loud as I wanted. She was more of a Van Halen woman at the time.
@jaremelz@Pavlov@Jerseymike@JonT I took my wife to see Weird Al for our Anniversary...it's the only concert she has ever been to! Weird Al is my all time favorite, I know all but his last album by heart. He was great in concert even tho the venue changed last minute. I wanted to go again in August but just couldn't justify it. Melanie is awesome for sure!
@Pavlov Heh, Weird Al was at Cal Poly the same time I was, and we had a friend that roomed with him. Somebody in our circle of friends still has a copy of his first self-produced single. He did My Bologna without asking permission, and when The Knack came to Cal Poly, got to meet them and ask forgiveness, which they gave him. He was for a time DJ on the campus radio station KCPR, and his earliest songs were recorded in Studio 227, which was actually room 227 of the graphic arts building, which was the men's bathroom (he liked the acoustics off the tile). I've seen him live once since then, at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz before he really hit it big.
Nice.
UGGGGGGGH. I've been trying not to covet but fuck me I need that flask. Fuuuuuuccckkk youuuuuuuuu
@DrunkCat
@DrunkCat only $23 from jeff bezos semi-evil warehouse store http://www.amazon.com/Maxam-Enormous-Novelty-Stainless-Flask-128/dp/B0055FGAS6
Is that made out of real metal or a simulated metal made of plastic? Do you get a metallic taste from your drink?
@cengland0 it's actually real metal. and i haven't noticed any metallic taste. i did wash it out pretty thoroughly first.
Don't think I've ever actually seen you in the flesh before, @carl669!
I know the feeling and I'm glad someone is actually using one of those huge flasks.
@JonT really? i swear i had a pic of me in some other thread.
on the bottom of the box it came in, it says "Your stainless steel flask is specially designed to carry alcoholic drinks". who am i to argue with the prophetic sayings of the box?
@carl669 fuckin' A.
@carl669 what was inthe flask?
@vampje @carl669 Yes, which "Drinking Terrible With Meh" concoction was in the flask?
@vampje that was water (sadly, i was at work). this weekend, vodka tonic.
Don't look now everybody but @carl669 if fucking drunk AGAIN!!!!
@mfladd damn i'm a coordinated drunk!!
That thing is fucking glorious. After receiving a notice today that a bill for $8570 from my son's accident isn't being paid out until resolution with the school comes. I need all the drinks.
@jaremelz eep, wtf?!?

@Pavlov My name is Melanie, so he had me right out of the gate.

@jaremelz It's okay, I get it, she's my hero too.
If you don't scope it out prior, the location of the bus will be on the screen at the start of the show - pay close attention.
@KDemo
@Pavlov I have also decided that finding an old tour shirt before then will be my new mission.
@jaremelz
This shirt: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Weird-Al-Yankovic-The-Saga-Begins-Galactic-Tour-Star-Wars-Parody-T-Shirt-XL-/131561716885
He will rarely will decline signing, especially if worn by a child.
I'm sure you can find one affordably in better condition and in the appropriate size (always buy bigger, but I know you know that).
@jaremelz Let him know that I'm a lifelong fan of Al too. I can still sing "Melanie" by heart. I remember as a child playing the album for some adults who didn't "get it" until I deadpanned, "Here, listen to this love song he wrote."
@JerseyFrank Your son. Let him know. Not Al. Well, you could let him know, but I'm not famous enough yet for him to know me.
@Pavlov hey, that's the tour he was on when I went to go see him live! I've only seen him live once at that concert but it was well beyond my expectations. I couldn't believe all of the costume changes and video accompaniment.

@tightwad It's killing me that I can't tell him yet! Still another month until his birthday. I want to squee with him every day about it...

@SIMBM -Oh my gosh! I wonder if the Catalyst is still there. I loved that wonderful old building. (I lived in Los Gatos for many years).
@KDemo Still there. Haven't been in decades.
You're giving me some serious flask-envy.
i've decided to make the flask a bit more portable.
@carl669
@carl669
I never thought I'd see such a practical and good use of cargo shorts!
Real Genius.
@carl669- I'll assume that's not your boss taking the picture?
@KDemo that picture, no. but, my boss did take a picture of me when i first put the flask in my pocket.
