@blaineg I hear you. After ducking the temptation a couple of times to buy shit I didn’t need (or even want), I’ve now peacefully resigned myself to having no IRK, no useless junk, and no grief from this Mehrathon…
@blaineg Truer words have never been spoken. Well, it’s-always-best-to-refrigerate-your-batteries is the truest words ever spoken, but yours are a close second…
@jmhsrv Sometimes separating from a job can be a very wonderful thing. But since you’ve had it for 25 years, I presume you must have liked it at least a little. My condolences to you.
@jmhsrv Very sorry to hear that! As some encouragement, I think most employers would love to hire someone who prefers to remain with a company for a long time and not hop around.
A really long time at one place should look great on a resume… think of it as an opportunity to update your salary to the going rate, and know that you’ll enter any job interview with a certain advantage in terms of experience.
Don’t buy the meh deal, obv.
Maybe talk to someone about it - layoffs can be traumatic.
Remind yourself that you’re a seasoned pro with experience and a skillset, and someone out there could really use those skills that you’ve got.
After all that time employed you hopefully have some buffer that’ll afford an opportunity to relax for at least a few weeks - I suggest you take full advantage of that, and not stress about the search until after you’ve give yourself a few weeks to unwind and relax. That might put you in a better place to interview.
My layoff was a blip by a consultant- nobody in their right mind lays off a person who has delivered over $1 million back to the company year over year for 25 yrs and justifies it as a cost savings - a accident executives are not willing to admit
@806D2701@jmhsrv As someone who got a severance package five years ago, the best advice I can give and yet not live by is… don’t take it personally. It HURTS! It sucks. Work is incredibly important to our identities, and to have to ripped away is painful. I liken it to being aligned to the local House and then a dragon comes and roasts you alive just because somebody you don’t know didn’t like someone else you barely know.
I was a VMP for years, and my card expired and I didn’t notice. So I was stripped of that title. Then I was a member for years and my card expired and I didn’t notice, so now I’m a member with thousands of meh clicks and I have been a member since this month. The one thing that keeps people combining here is the community and meh loves to destroy it.
Man I miss when the random gift was like a pallet of stuff that nobody wanted. At least they posted the story of how they were dealing with a heavy freight item that meh had paid the shipping cost for. Those were the days.
@zachhh Yeah, something weird happened to my account and while I’m a Day 0 Kickstarter backer, my Meh doesn’t reflect that, nor does my Casemates anymore. I don’t know why. But you know, entropy. Chaos. The center cannot hold. Things fall apart.
@somf69 Well, you’re in luck, because this one costs you .01. The new system is great. It allocates IRKs to the people who actually buy stuff on the site.
@katbyter@TrinSF But on the other hand, if you buy the IRK up-front and then run out of mehrathon junk you’re willing to buy, you’re equally SOL.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sorry but just buying an IRK is not the same. I looked forward to Mehrathons so I could try to WIN the illusive IRK…that was my quest…now…all the fun is gone
Why don’t they just say bend over and we will give it to you that way. Just trying to stick it to us loyal customers and get us to buy more shit we don’t need.
@Felton10 meh probably doesn’t care. All they likely care about is getting the shit out of the warehouse. As long as someone buys it they’ll be happy. There are enough customers who will buy it (it sold out at $100 so it will sell out at $50) and likely from their point of view sold is sold. That is angers some of the hard core community doesn’t appear to matter to them as much now as it did in the past. I think we sometimes forget it’s a for profit store with a forum and not the other way around… although in meh’s early years I think the forum was important to them in a way it appears not to be now. But then companies grow and change, snapster has a family now on top of a much bigger, established business…
How dare they sell merchandise and let customers decide if they want to buy it! Don’t the people running this website know that meh is a hobby and not a business?
Comparing this daily deal site’s daily deal to forced sex is totally accurate and appropriate. Nobody’s overreacting.
Haven’t done anything here for a long time, so I need to lean on a regular. If I would buy the woot, I mean irk, do the old still for sale deals count towards the $50?
@bakerzdosen $49.99 before tax. And as for your next question, yes, the tax on $49.99 of the IRK will be refunded if you meet the qualifications for the refund on the IRK.
I have a great idea!
Instead of spending $50 to get an IRK, I’ll cancel VMP and save $60/year. Despite what it says, I’ve been VMP since 2014. Crazy how that adds up. It was worth it, now it isn’t.
Do we know when the Meh-rathon ends? In other words, if you have a few bucks left to spend to cross the $49.99 threshold, do we know when to stop waiting for the next item and settle for a random shirt?
I was pleasantly surprised to want $50 worth of meh-rathon today. Eye massage-y mask (bought two the first time around and they’re great so another for a gift) and bike speaker (wireless speaker w a hook). Done and done, and a free IRK purchased as a result.
That said, I’m fully aware the IRK is likely to be a bunch of stuff I already didn’t want to buy or is actively garbage - in any event, it’s a low risk amusement I’m exchange for buying a couple items I didn’t need but will use.
I fully expected to find fifty bucks worth of stuff I wanted to buy today, but nope. I don’t know how the $50 IRKs are going in general, but for me it would seem that much of the Meh magic is gone.
Well, this was the dullest Mehrathon I’ve ever experienced, but it’s good, I got away without spending any money and I’m fine with that. Anything I might have bought was either sold out, or I already had it, or the reviews for it were bad - so no regrets this time around, but kind of disappointing. 🫤
Rats - since the Irk is on Sidedeal, why can’t purchases on the sister sites count towards it? Because I just found something I wanted on Morningsave, a tire inflator. Got it anyway because I’ve been wanting one, but I’ll be really bummed if it shows up over here for less in the coming days.
@Kyeh kinda felt the same…but, there were a couple items I was able to convince myself to get.
A couple of the Anker GaN 45-watt chargers so I can fast charge my jumper packs and a couple of the Aukey USB-C 20k mAh power banks to replace my ~6 year old micro-USB ones (that still work fine…), lol.
Qualified me for the IRK too (passed on it last time).
I was super-bummed about the doubled price for the random tees this time…I’ve always ordered the limit on those. Had to pass at $9. The mystery is fun, even if a couple aren’t my style…but, not $27 worth of fun for the risk.
@PHRoG But don’t you get the Ink-for-Irks one? I agree about the random shirts - it’s fun to take a chance if they don’t cost much, but I’ve gotten some I would never wear. It’s funny, my first three were excellent and the ones since then have never been as great.
@Kyeh Yeah, I thought since it was on SD it didn’t count against the ink one like the usual Meharathon rules. Still waiting to find that out for sure.
No big deal though as I would’ve bought these items anyway. I had genuine need for them…sometimes it’s nice to just impulse buy stuff Vs. wandering down a 3 hour rabbit-hole trying to decipher what’s crap or not on the 'zon these days. lol
I think I only got a couple shirts I didn’t like out of the 12 I’ve previously had from the random tees…maybe I’m just too easy.
Well shit.
@shahnm I rather like these calm, relaxing, no pressure Meh-rathons.
Though I had a really hard time overriding the MASH IT reflex on the button over on SideDeal.
@blaineg I hear you. After ducking the temptation a couple of times to buy shit I didn’t need (or even want), I’ve now peacefully resigned myself to having no IRK, no useless junk, and no grief from this Mehrathon…
And I’ll regret it in the morning…
@shahnm Well, as long as you’ve got some regret, that’s what really matters, isn’t it?
@blaineg Truer words have never been spoken. Well, it’s-always-best-to-refrigerate-your-batteries is the truest words ever spoken, but yours are a close second…
Meh.
I refreshed at 9 thinking “I feel like a meh-rathon is coming”. MY GOD I AM PSYCHIC.
@violue
Fixed that for you.
@violue @yakkoTDI I thought that was you. What with the trunk and all.
And IRK.
Get your $50 IRK on SideDeal folks!!
They claim over 57,200 SOLD already! SUCKERS!!
@IndifferentDude no way, really?
@stolicat Yep! It’s FREE though if you buy it and then spend at least $49.99 during the mehrathon.
@IndifferentDude @stolicat
They’ve changed it now to “100+ sold today.”
@Kyeh Must be they copied & pasted from the last time. Were there really that many suckers then?? WHOA!!
@IndifferentDude Hard to believe!
@IndifferentDude oh no, I’m not falling for that again.
@IndifferentDude @Kyeh And now 500+ sold.
@IndifferentDude @Kidsandliz @Kyeh Now “1100+ Sold Today”
$50 IRKs again (with same “write off” as before.)
I wasn’t expecting the Spanish Inquisition …
@stolicat no one expects the Spanish inquisition…
@somf69 @stolicat Well, some do.
Ruh uh, I wonder if that means they won’t be selling IRKs in this Meh-Rathon today
@DemoMatrix the won’t
Have to spend $50
F getting irk on side deals. Last time got opened food, broken items, truly terrible
@begotten1 So, just like any other IRK.
/showme instant regret kit
@mediocrebot too cute to regret. Try again.
@mediocrebot I don’t regret that kitty at all.
@gogrrl @mediocrebot Look at the eyes though…
Condoms? Ohnoes, is this really gonna be a themed Meh-rathon? cringe
@TrinSF At least they aren’t refurbished. At least, they don’t say they’re refurbished, but this discount site has a history of refurbished goods.
@TrinSF @xobzoo perhaps they might have had some, except that the source in Vietnam got raided.
Last time I bought the $50 IRK. I absolutely regretted it. It was not worth the usual $5. Never again.
@kcface Was the regret instant?
Last time I bought the $50 IRK & was very disappointed, just a bunch of old makeup and 2 iPhone 6 phone cases
@cory101 But did you regret it?
Just lost my job of 25 yrs
Won’t be paying $50 for an irk I’m
Afraid
@jmhsrv Sorry to hear about your job.
@jmhsrv So sorry to hear that. I know all too well what that’s like. As this month’s goat, I guess it’s my fault.
@jmhsrv Sometimes separating from a job can be a very wonderful thing. But since you’ve had it for 25 years, I presume you must have liked it at least a little. My condolences to you.
@jmhsrv Good luck finding another one quickly - one that you like and pays more than the one you had.
@jmhsrv Very sorry to hear that! As some encouragement, I think most employers would love to hire someone who prefers to remain with a company for a long time and not hop around.

Best of luck!
@806D2701 thank you for this.
My layoff was a blip by a consultant- nobody in their right mind lays off a person who has delivered over $1 million back to the company year over year for 25 yrs and justifies it as a cost savings - a accident executives are not willing to admit

@zachhh Same
@zachhh I don’t understand how one member’s failure to monitor their cc expiration dates affects a community.
I have had plenty of Irks, been here since day zero…I always try during the VMP power hour, but no way I’m buying one over 5 bucks.
@somf69 Ditto. I’d pay $10, but not $50. That’s over my comfort level.
@somf69 Well, you’re in luck, because this one costs you .01. The new system is great. It allocates IRKs to the people who actually buy stuff on the site.
Does anyone know what happens if you spend the $50 here and then buy the IRK, do you still get refunded? Or do you have to buy the IRK first?
@katbyter The IRK page explains that yes, it works Except that if they run out of IRKs before you get one, you’re SOL. Go read the page.
@katbyter @TrinSF But on the other hand, if you buy the IRK up-front and then run out of mehrathon junk you’re willing to buy, you’re equally SOL.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@katbyter I think you get billed and then manually refunded with a 3-5 day turnaround on the refund processing.
That song is catchy, though…
Sorry but just buying an IRK is not the same. I looked forward to Mehrathons so I could try to WIN the illusive IRK…that was my quest…now…all the fun is gone
@sweetjoey You visited the site today! YOU WIN!
@sweetjoey

It’s an outrage!
How dare they sell merchandise and let customers decide if they want to buy it! Don’t the people running this website know that meh is a hobby and not a business?
Comparing this daily deal site’s daily deal to forced sex is totally accurate and appropriate. Nobody’s overreacting.
@Felton10 “They are here, but there’s a catch, because we enjoy to both torment and reward you.”
Can’t say they’re not being straightforward about it.
@blaineg They have every right to change the rules just as I have every right to choose not to go along with them.
Haven’t done anything here for a long time, so I need to lean on a regular. If I would buy the woot, I mean irk, do the old still for sale deals count towards the $50?
@Ecriscit I think it is anything bought during this “event” that counts.
@Kidsandliz thanks, I haven’t bought anything on this site for a long time, and slick deals is going downhill too
I’m still not clear if “then spend at least $49.99 over on the Meh-rathon today at Meh” includes tax or not.
@bakerzdosen $49.99 before tax. And as for your next question, yes, the tax on $49.99 of the IRK will be refunded if you meet the qualifications for the refund on the IRK.
Over the precipice.

It’s been fun . . . and then not.
@kdemo
@blaineg @kdemo I knew some ahole would put up that stupid video. Thanks for making it true. Get over yourself.
@blaineg - Why do you have to be like that?
I really miss when the forum had kind and fun people.
@blaineg I had a reason for posting.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/hows-it-going#621fbc74a2df6d001bc73cb7
@blaineg @kdemo And here we are, not quite a year later, with essentially nothing visibly changed for the better.
@werehatrack - Yup.
Can’t say he didn’t try, though. Remember Project Precipice?
@kdemo
Because I have a snarky sense of humor?
@blaineg - If you say so.
Do we know when the Meh-rathon ends? In other words, if you have a few bucks left to spend to cross the $49.99 threshold, do we know when to stop waiting for the next item and settle for a random shirt?
@danhallock It should end at Midnight tonight (EST) but they have had 2-day Meh-rathons before so, who knows??
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@danhallock @IndifferentDude
If you are checking today’s previous deals, trying to hit $50, https://mehstalker.com/ has a much better interface than Meh does.
I was pleasantly surprised to want $50 worth of meh-rathon today. Eye massage-y mask (bought two the first time around and they’re great so another for a gift) and bike speaker (wireless speaker w a hook). Done and done, and a free IRK purchased as a result.

@epicadventure Godspeed, valiant adventurer!
@epicadventure Lucky you. So far I only want $49.98 worth of Mehrathon stuff.
@epicadventure That is a truly insightful yet pragmatic view of the Mehiverse if I’ve ever seen one.
I fully expected to find fifty bucks worth of stuff I wanted to buy today, but nope. I don’t know how the $50 IRKs are going in general, but for me it would seem that much of the Meh magic is gone.
