Is Woot trying to copy the Meh formula??
2I'm noticing daily video content has started to appear over at Woot.com. It's not nearly as fun or clever as our dear old spokes-troll, but it has the feeling of trying to strike the same vibe. It's so weird... are they trying to out Meh the Meh? From the looks of it, they'll be trying for a while, but it's kind of weird.
Check out the Dawn of the Crapmaster video in the top right: weird video
I mean, more power to them (and it sounds like George Takei might be involved, which is fun) but the whole tone just seems... I don't know... uninspired?

The crapmaster video you're referring to is part of Woot's 10th birthday celebration they're having tomorrow.
The current trend of daily videos is for the exhausting game they're playing right now. It sounded fun at first, but now it seems like a ton of work and I already have a job.
I'll stay up for it, but odds are I will remain crapless.
All I know is that I'm a squirrel or something
Woot copying the Meh formula? WTF? We launched like two days ago.
That's like 3 years in internet time.
Wait, time flows backwards, right?
In the future, woot will be selling the Quantum Roomba, a consumer grade time machine than no one wants. That's how they pulled it off.
@damon it just wanders around inefficiently bumping into various timestreams
Hope all that string theory doesn't get tangled up in the brush.
Not sure if it's related to Meh, but definitely noticed they have actually had some deals lately which is a pleasant change.
Well not directly related to Meh, I do think it is related to the realization that they are losing customers to other businesses online. Maybe someone suggested they try to get back to their roots a little and to the current higher ups that meant "quirky videos" and not the "Keep it simple, stupid, and craptastically good deals of yore." I give them an A for effort, but they get somewhere between a C- and a D+ in actual result.
Like a few weeks ago when they had A.A. shirts for the Independence Day themed derby. It was like someone said, "Hey, we should bring back A.A. shirts, people seem to want that." Then some one up the totem pole said, "Yes, but just for the weekend because we get them cheaper from overseas." I grabbed a shirt, but it just didn't feel the same. The buying it that is, the A.A. shirts still feel awesome.
I'm sorry I missed out. I stopped buying shirts when they changed over from A.A. and never bought another one since.
Pretty sure they've been looking to hire someone to get back to making videos on the regular since the last guy left.
This thread just makes my head hurt.
