@mycya4me@somf69@yakkoTDI Not true. I am not, nor have I ever been, either a cop or a pregnant woman. Or, despite any noises I might occasionally make, a cat.
@yerti yeah, I have several of their other low cut and standard socks. They’re pretty good.
They’re not just ratchet belts anymore. Usually all their stuff is pretty good.
@OnionSoup@raive Bamboo is for medieval armor, furniture, and similar wood products[1]. Clothing and other textile products advertised as being “bamboo” are actually viscose, a chemical relative of rayon, and the fact that they were made using bamboo as the feed stock for the process no more makes them bamboo than vodka is potatoes.
[1] While it is actually possible to ret textile-quality fibers directly from certain species of bamboo, the process is exacting, slow, and costly; it is seldom actually applied, and essentially none of the textiles advertised as “bamboo” are actually made from real bamboo fiber.
@raive@werehatrack not the same as Rayon though. Similar feel and texture but is naturally antimicrobial so automatically eliminates odors that traditional rayon would not.
I own these socks, I purchased them from QVC in the past, twice. This is a great deal, I personally like them, they are the only socks that my shoes don’t “eat”, they actually stay on my big feet and I think they are very comfortable.
“No-show” is why there’s no cooling effect. If the moisture was wicked up and out of the shoe, it would evaporate around the ankles causing cooling on the skin.
This moves the moisture to the shoe itself, so the evaporation is too far removed to be perceptible.
@syllable - I call those kind of things ‘travel socks’. I pack them when I suitcase anywhere, wear them one final time, then throw them away so I don’t have to ship dirty laundry home.
@swechsler Moisture wicking: Yes. Heat removal: Dependent upon local relative humidity, temperature, and amount of exposure to air circulation. If they’re being worn inside shoes that are impermeable, they’ll be sodden and sweltering sooner than cotton. Those of use who were around for the early days of mass-produced consumer-level “cool, comfortable polyester” know just how much of a bald-faced lie that can be. OTOH, if you’re wearing footgear that is also either well ventilated or inherently wicking as well, then the transference outward will work, and they’ll be better than cotton in that regard. Inside a pair of hiking boots? Fat chance, but why would you pick no-shows? Typical joggers? Probably will work.
Caveat: I don’t know how durable that antibacterial treatment will be; if it wears off, they’ll be much worse than cotton about promoting the growth of athlete’s foot fungus. I haven’t heard of any problems in that regard, but then, I don’t hang out in places where I’d hear about it, either. There’s a good reason why women’s polyester briefs have a cotton gusset in “that area”. YMMV, it’s just a thing to keep in mind, and recognize if it happens. (If you’re going backpacking, you should be taking along a tiny tube of antifungal cream anyway.)
These are not no show socks. They are low cut. But I like how the fabric “lip” in the back protects the back of the ankle (Achilles tendon) from direct contact rubbing from shoes.

@somf69 Pervert.
@somf69 @yakkoTDI I have always heard it takes one to know one!
@mycya4me @somf69 @yakkoTDI Not true. I am not, nor have I ever been, either a cop or a pregnant woman. Or, despite any noises I might occasionally make, a cat.
@yakkoTDI
/giphy wtf
@werehatrack I do believe you cat around way too much!
Anyone tried this brand before?
@yerti yeah, I have several of their other low cut and standard socks. They’re pretty good.
They’re not just ratchet belts anymore. Usually all their stuff is pretty good.
They’re not bamboo. Bamboo socks are the best!
I won’t rest until every fabric in my life is bamboo.
@OnionSoup #PandaLife
@OnionSoup Wool is the best for socks, but maybe I’ll try bamboo for some other clothes

@tinkertime This would have sold me if I could get just black ones.
Are these here on Meh because Gen Z has decided that no-show socks are uncool?
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-07-18/millennial-gen-zer-sock-fight-is-an-intergenerational-trend-war
@Kyeh I should be so fortunate; it might mean that I’d be able to get decent useful socks again. Maybe. Probably not.
@Kyeh wild so Gen Z is becoming GenX. I knew I liked those kids
@Kyeh And after reading the article, the incoming gen wants saggy crew socks. OFFS, it that’s real, they want to go from nasty to nastier.
@Kyeh @TheStas It’s wild. I’m like y’all look like I did in high school. [Realizes I have turned into an old man].
Bummed that are for bigger feet. They don’t help me and my size 7s any kind of good.
OMG! Glen is going to have an orgy!!
@yakkoTDI no… These socks are too small, they’re underage for Glen.
No-show and ankle-high socks just don’t FEEL right. I keep thinking they’ve fallen down.
@Barc777 THANK YOU.
@Barc777 … and can’t get up.
/giphy life alert!
OMG THEY SOCKED IT TO GLEN!!! (Welcome back l’il buddy!)
@shahnm yep
Unfortunately these socks aren’t for big feet . I wear size 15 wide 4E shoes.
Too late for Hanukkah

Oh why not. Maybe my daughter will keep her paws off of these
Now, the question is . . . will I actually throw away my holey old ones? I’m so bad of getting rid of the old.
@syllable - I call those kind of things ‘travel socks’. I pack them when I suitcase anywhere, wear them one final time, then throw them away so I don’t have to ship dirty laundry home.
@aetris that idea doesn’t sock!
I’m a fan of cotton. These are polyester/nylon. Will they really “wick away” moisture and heat?

@werehatrack Thanks for the detailed response. I usually wear this type of sock with leather sneakers rather than jogging shoes, so I guess I’ll pass.
These are not no show socks. They are low cut. But I like how the fabric “lip” in the back protects the back of the ankle (Achilles tendon) from direct contact rubbing from shoes.
I’d buy these if I wanted to look like a giant nerd.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
But there is black though. . . hum.
I think not. I want socks that are fully committed. I hate it when I depend on them being there for me and they are no-shows.
The term “No Show” does NOT apply to every shoe style. Socks like these show over all of my shoes!
After three washings no elasticity.
All petroleum products, no cotton
