Is it okay to vandalize your own stuff?
18I’ve been 3D printing some halloween stuff (zombie parts, etc) and spray painting them out on my patio. If I don’t have a big piece of cardboard, I just put the thing on the top of the trash can or recycling bin because I really don’t care if paint gets on them. After a zombie hand, I was left with a big empty circle surrounded by overspray. It reminded of those spacescapes that street vendors do. So, on Wednesday, I turned the lid of my trash can into this.
It was fun, but my crippling level of ADHD told me I could do better so just now I did this to the side of the can. It’s kind of cool, but my wife thinks I’m a child heh
Recycle bin better watch out

Looks pretty cool, but I think in order for it to be vandalized it needs to belong to someone else and not be something they asked for.
So in that sense this would be more like customization than vandalization.
Come do mine next:-)
@shannenelaine To be fair, my wife did say to leave the trash can alone after I did the lid. I can’t wait for her to get home and be disappointed! I’ll just tell her the neighbor kids did it
@capnjb @shannenelaine
I LOVE IT! Do mine, too!
@Kyeh @shannenelaine Put it in a SASE and I’d be happy to
That looks totally cool!
I love it! Very well done!
You are likely to have that trash can stolen because it looks so cool!!!
@Kidsandliz Heh, I’ve had that can for almost 20 years and the bottom is likely going to fall out soon… they’d be doing me a favor
Lol is it yours or the trash company’s though hahaa
Valdalizr your own stuff spectacularly and maybe you can get a viable $ making YouTube channel (or even a reality show on some cable network)
FWIW, I’ve never been so excited to take my trash out this morning
It looks cool… And you’re 99% likely ok… But I think those trash cans technically belong to the county normally. (If they’re ones that the county provided for you).
If in doubt… If you’re questioned, some cool artistic neighborhood punks (who you don’t actually know) sprayed the cans, not you.
@OnionSoup If the cans are in poor shape, their county should provide new replacements soon-ish too.
@OnionSoup It’s mine. Vintage Home Depot Our HOA provides trash pick up, but we have to use our own cans.
@OnionSoup @pakopako The county provides recycle bins. Tall, lidded ones for paper and medium sized rectangular ones for glass/metal/plastic. I can actually call 311 and request new bins 3 times a year for free. They drop them off in about a week. I tend to replace the rectangle ones about one a year, pretty much just to use them to grow potatoes
@capnjb @pakopako that’s nice. Especially that you can request more.
We are the end of a rural street and had the hardest time the first year getting trash/recycling to come pick up our bins… It’s like the truck drivers didn’t want the hassle of driving 100’ more to come to our house so turned around early. They only pickup recycling every other week and we’re a big family of five and a lot of our shopping is online… So we would fill up a recycling bin more than once a month which is approximately how often they would actually drive to our house.
We requested a second bin because we kept getting skipped (and not allowed to use our own)… That way, when we get skipped we have somewhere to place our recycling. They wouldn’t give us a second bin. Said we had to pay $45 a month if we wanted a second recycling bin. Insane. The only reason we needed a second is because they kept skipping our house and leaving us having to wait a month before collecting (or 6 weeks if we got skipped twice in a row).
The fact they give you new recycling bins every 4 months if you want them is fantastic.
@OnionSoup We’re in Montgomery county, MD. Just north of D.C. About a million residents and a metric shit ton of money. So, despite all the douchebags, there are some nice perks that come along with that. The parks and rec system is amazing with 300 public tennis courts and about 800 public athletic fields. If you see a tree in a public area that is having a bad day, you can just call 311 and they send out an arborist to take care of it. Same goes with potholes. I mean, they probably won’t send an arborist for that, but you get the gist.
@capnjb But what kind of therapist would they send out to help a pothole that’s depressed?
