IRK on the way to my house, hurricane is not.
15IRK to arrive on Friday. Hurricane moving farther west in the gulf thereby lessening the impact on where I live. Now if only DeSantis will go back to Iowa and I don’t have to see his face on TV trying to convince us he is doing so much for the people of Florida, all will be right with the world.

Glad you’re safe, but @llangley and @yakkoTDI, how are things in your area?? I hope you’re not in the storm’s path? @PoolToyWolf, I think you’re farther south?![:fingers_crossed:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f91e.png)
@Kyeh Central Florida here, so likely will see a lot of rain and some wind, but out of the direct path.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf Just going to be a little wind and rain here in lower West Central Florida.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf I saw that the original path was into the area where the coastal population density is pretty low, and now it looks likely to be a hazard to more folks. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the 63 years since Hurricane Donna didn’t do terribly much to Miami, it’s that you know exactly where it’s really coming ashore when that moment arrives. Until then, all predictions are no better than SWAG of varying degrees of educated prognostication, most assuredly including mine.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack The best thing that can happen is that it is pointed right at you at the beginning as you know it is going to change.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @PooltoyWolf Famous last words (mine) spoken on the evening of August 22, 1992: “It’s due east of us, it’ll turn north before it hits.”
It didn’t turn north. It came due west. Andrew. The NOAA anemometer in Homestead blew away with the building it was on while the winds were still category 4, and that was on the weak side of the storm. I was on the strong side. Years later, the NHC accepted the wind readings from the Turkey Point nuclear station and uprated it to Cat5. Those of us at ground zero never had any doubts.
@Kyeh @PooltoyWolf @yakkoTDI Same. Thankfully I’m too far inland (central Tampa) to worry about storm surge and the current path looks like we’ll miss the strongest winds
. Being on its east side could be a problem since that’s where tornadoes are spawned but I figure I’ll sleep through it again…I spent the day moving container plants from the yard to the patio. I have a lot of them and I’m beat…![](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f634.png)

Stay safe everyone! And thanks for asking![:people_hugging:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1fac2.png)
@Kyeh @llangley @PooltoyWolf So at one point we had a slightly strong rain but no wind at all. It was strange.
Now we are getting a little bit of rain and wind.
@Kyeh @llangley @PooltoyWolf @yakkoTDI llangley - good luck. My sister is in Tampa and inland too. Fingers crossed for you both and anyone else that will be getting the fall out from this storm.
Central FL here too, my prayers are with everyone in Tallahassee, they’ll be in the eye of Cat 4.![](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f64f.png)

This will probably drive more insurance companies out of Florida, or give the remaining companies a reason to raise their rates ( which are already unaffordable!)
@lonocat Just got my home insurance renewal notice for this year 1,804.00-up 100% from 2 years ago when it was a little over $ 900. Better pay it before they change their mind.
@Felton10 @lonocat The last renewal notice that I got from my (former) home insurance agent had increased to $2200 for the year. And this is Oregon, where the last (only?) hurricane was in 1962.
I switched to another company and got a much lower quote - probably a teaser rate but we’ll see at renewal time next year. (FTR, I’ve never made a claim on homeowner’s insurance.)
@lonocat @macromeh I filed a claim for roof damage from the hurricane from last year-not because I thought it was even close to what the ins co would pay, but because I couldn’t get a roofing co on the phone much a less one to come out and look at the damage. Only way I could get someone out to look at the missing tiles and tell me if water would leak into the house was to file a claim and the ins co sent someone right out as they didn’t want a little problem to become a bigger one.
Hey there keep us all updated pls.
And send us some (non-violent) rain pls.
Glad you’re safe. It stayed West & bypassed our home too. Just manageable winds & rain.
I like DeSantis, he’ll get my vote.
@daveinwarsh I’d like to know why is DeSantis going to get your vote.
@daveinwarsh @Felton10 Obviously because he diverted the hurricane away from his house.
@daveinwarsh @OnionSoup Maybe because of his constant news conferences trying to convince the people of Florida he actually cared about them (NOT) and was doing things to earn his salary, he sucked up all the wind in the state.
