It looks like it took many iterations before he realized those small sails were sufficient. I kept waiting for it to veer into the ocean. Would be funny if he walked it on a leash.

Charles Babbage (1791-1871), computer pioneer, designed the first automatic computing engines. He invented computers but failed to build them. The first complete Babbage Engine was completed in London in 2002, 153 years after it was designed. Difference Engine No. 2, built faithfully to the original drawings, consists of 8,000 parts, weighs five tons, and measures 11 feet long.

While my collection of math machines is limited to slide rules and HP calculators, I've always been completely fascinated by the Curta and have promised myself it'll be my celebratory 'gold watch' one of these days when I have something to celebrate. Here's a dude who likes to say 'oops' demonstrating square roots on one:
