Inflatable of the Day 4/18
11Today’s toy is the Intex Magic Dragon. This one was made back between 2002 and 2003, and due to it being rather fragile (seam failures are common around the toes, under the feet, and on the bottom of the neck), was discontinued quickly. A shame, because he’s a really cute mass-produced inflatable, the likes of which seem to be getting less and less common these days. Some of you may recognize a passing resemblance to video game character Spyro the Dragon, whom I also have a licensed inflatable of! My Magic Dragon came from eBay several years ago, and despite numerous seam leaks, he has been repaired and sometimes makes public appearances at beaches, lakes, and pools.

purple loves @barney.
You’re right, I instantly thought it was Spyro until I gave a second look. I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t a coincidence.
@Bandrik I don’t think it was
@PooltoyWolf - Haha yeah, it makes me think of all the blatantly obvious My Little Pony toy knockoffs you see in Crane Games and dollar stores. “My Magical Pony”, “Princess Pony Pals”, whatever name they give them, it’s clear what they’re going for.
What’s funny is that often times knockoffs look better than the official merchandise.
@Bandrik @PooltoyWolf
A good point here.
There’s so much promotional and tie-in schlock out there.
Maybe, for the larger inflatables, they are expensive enough that it’s a speciality market and the manufacturers consistently go for quality. Do they?
Anyway: how you do filter what you want (and is worthy) from the junk?
(Whether you are filtering for “manufacture everything junk” or “cultural me-too junk”, or filtering for “bad quality junk”?)
@Bandrik My favorite one was an Angry Birds capsule machine knockoff that said ‘Ill-Tempered Birds’
@Bandrik @f00l For the very most part, the large inflatables are manufactured with a higher quality standard than the stuff you buy at Walmart, yeah.
Love your speakers and speaker stands in the background! Classic and functional!
@nasman6 Thank you!! Those are Pioneer CS-99A speakers, with period gear between.
Mighty cute!!

@Kyeh Right?? One of the better Intex animal designs, in my opinion.
