iMac Retina in native resolution
4Not particularly usable in this mode but it shows of the cool tech. I wish this example existed for debate purposes when we made Woot homepage 50 pixels wider than the default standard. (everyone still using 800x600 monitors hated us)
I've never used a macbook retina. After being conflicted about simulated lower resolutions, I find it's actually fairly liberating to be done with pixel to pixel mapping. Plus your background image stays native.

That is very cool tech, but it needs to come in a 302 inch version to be usable.
@bluedyn my system for that is in the other room http://www.cedia.net/insights/cedia-blog-detail/blog/2014/09/26/how-they-did-it-bringing-3d-audio-to-life
@snapster Holy hell. If that's yours, I hope you charge guests admission.
@bluedyn how about free admission with VMP!
@snapster Holy crap that's a set up! Do you think 100 sets of the Audio Source speakers might come close to it?
Worlds best display for meh... until the 302 inch version comes out: (full size http://pics.mattrutledge.com/image/0j361g2y3A3E - though glitchy from doing in panorama mode)
@mehjohnson I'd get a subwoofer as well :)
@snapster It's a deal! What time is John Wick showing?
@snapster Damn, the sub from Philips blu ray deal is 4 ohm. Will watch for subs at midnight!
@mehjohnson Looking for pic, I found out 'midnight submarine' is another term... probably 'red october' too, but I'm not looking it up.
@bluedyn not until friday apparently - my first run movie connection is slacking
@snapster Were you one of the lucky folks to buy a Kaleidoscope DVD player as well? I've heard of the service you're showing above, but not knowing any super-wealthy folk, it's never been real to me.
@snapster One week after release date is acceptable. No need to go Milton Waddams on the place. Set the date and we'll be there. :)
@snapster I was going to build a theatre exactly like yours, but I don't have any friends, so I replaced the seats with teddy bears, and the screen with a cross-stitch of teddy bears drinking tea.
@snapster Don't make me hate you out of envy.
@snapster I'd love to have something like this going, but I'd have multiple satellite receivers and off-air demodulators, plus cable and/or DirecTV receivers feeding into some sort of ultimate DVR. Do you live where you can put up some giant satellite dishes or are you in a neighborhood with a stick-in-the-mud HOA that says 15-foot satellite dishes "hurt property values"?
@jqubed turns out 5 networked HDVR receivers on lower right are more capacity than I can manage to schedule and fill. No HOA! :-D
@snapster Holy ballz...I just read the article you linked. So much awesome, but I mostly just want it for the ability to play 4 Xbox Ones at the same time. Takes me back to the N64 days with my brothers. It irks me that games like Destiny don't let you play local split-screen. Everybody has to bring their own console AND screen if we want to get together in the same physical location.
@snapster Until this thread, I thought Tivo was just showing off when it announced the Tivo Mega. Now I wonder how many of them you'd buy. http://custom.tivo.com/mega_products.html
@editorkid I did check that out but when you have video distribution you can just keep adding more networked directv receivers for similar effect (2 more channels of recording each +500gb)
@snapster Do you have a way to watch ESPN3 and other web services? And a big satellite would let you pull all sorts of interesting stuff you might not be able to get otherwise, although that may be less of an issue if you get the right package from DirecTV.
@snapster We really need to be friends.. haha.. and maybe you should move to western PA! It would make it a lot easier for me to drop by and watch movies!
@snapster how far away is that room from the refrigerator?
@Kevin Pfft. Either that room has a fridge or a wait staff.
I really really want that theater setup... Need to start my own business.
Also, Super Bowl party at @snapster 's? Especially if the Cowboys make it?
So on the subject of @snapster being rich, did you manage to buy one of the 10 hoverboards in the kickstarter? If so, we'd all like a demonstration when it arrives.
@bluedyn I checked it out - I do splurge on kickstarter with the excuse that my dad did me huge favor when he bought an Apple 2 in 1979. Sadly, the hoverboard looks to be more for sport than a mode of transport. Their main vision is skateparks.
@bluedyn I sure hope he wasn't dumb enough to buy into that.
@snapster Skateparks don't seem like your natural habitat. I could be wrong, though. And what about the getting away from bad guys aspect? Or BTTF reenactments? How could they not have those as their main vision?
@tightwad Are you saying you don't want to live in a world with hoverboards? Boooo!
@bluedyn "My hoverboard is full of breakfast octopus."
@bluedyn No, I really want to. I don't however want to live in a world of shell games and over-hyped/under-delivered products. This only works for a couple minutes on select surfaces.
@tightwad Then I'll concede that it's shit. Especially at 10k.
