I’m Barbara Walters and this is 2020-January Blame Thread
13The calendar now reads 2020 and with that Barbara Walters is back in the news.
/giphy Barbara Walters
I was all but sure she was dead but it seems I was wrong thankfully Betty White remains.
/giphy Betty white
Long live Betty White. December is gone and January is here and it is now 2020. The sins of the 2010’s are but a fleeting memory and we now must see lace blame on those in 2020. Let the blaming of the goat-elect @stolicat begin until such time as he is rightfully inaugurated by the Meh staff as they work like elves on the prior goats trophy. All hail BleedMichigan. Let the blaming of @stolicat begin. Or if you feel so inclined you may also blame @bleedmichigan until such time as he becomes goat emeritus.

@bleedmichigan has 1 holiday album they enjoy and play on a nonstop loop of holiday cheer until everyone around them loses their grip on reality.
@mediocrebot damn right I do, it’s Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas
/giphy Mariah Carey
If only @Moose hadn’t died.
It is 10:38pm and you are still the goat.
We need an
officemeh pool for how long you will continue to be goat.@Kidsandliz 12:03est on January 2nd here
@bleedmichigan 6:25am central and you still aren’t a ghost.
I blame you for starting a new blame thread before the goat has died.
@RiotDemon is a dead goat like a dead rabbit?
@RiotDemon the goat expired at 11:59pm last decade. It is not my fault Meh has either failed to kill me off, or has decided to make me pontif goat. Or is it my fault
@bleedmichigan @RiotDemon you only have yourself to blame
@bleedmichigan made an embarrassing solo album of holiday carols they pray never resurfaces.
@mediocrebot I did do you want to hear it?
Here is a link to the 10hr long album
@bleedmichigan it’s totally your fault, until your goat flips.
@bleedmichigan @RiotDemon @tinamarie1974 I’m pretty sure it’s all my fault but I’ll wait my turn.
@RiotDemon @tinamarie1974 It might be that this goat, @bleedmichigan, has eternal earth bound life or something. With all those expired supplements meh sells you never know what might happen.
@bleedmichigan @mediocrebot
@RiotDemon you are correct but we needed a January blame thread think about all the hangovers from New Years people need to blame someone for
@bleedmichigan made an embarrassing solo album of holiday carols they pray never resurfaces.
@mediocrebot see above it’s 10 hours of Pink Fluffy Unicorns and I rocked that shit.
@bleedmichigan @mediocrebot I think the lyrics should be “Pink feath’ry dinosaurs munching on Unicorns” instead.
I’m still a little upset she wasn’t a surprise host on any of the ball drop TV shows
@joebuddah but Cheri Oteri as Barbara Walters was and that’s not half bad.
@joebuddah Yeah, she has such a nice
grimacesmileslight frowny grin.@therealjrn Its not that Im a fan of hers, I just think it would have been amazing to have her close each ball drop like she did on 20/20
I blame myself or @bleedmichigan that it’s now January 2 and I haven’t gotten my goat badge. So I’ll just steal one: so there!
@stolicat you are not the goat. At least not yet.
@CaptAmehrican @stolicat but I still am.
/giphy creepy wink
@bleedmichigan and a hour later you still are…
/goat for life
Here’s the badge for @bleedmichigan:

Okay, we seem to have our goat badges sorted out - thanks to @bleedmichigan for hanging around an extra 30-odd hours into 2020.
Please proceed to blame - you’ll have my empathy, apologies, and everybody gets a
@stolicat sweet!

@stolicat I blame you for everyone getting a Star damn millennials always wanting a participation trophy. Speaking of which where is my goat trophy?
@bleedmichigan damn boomers always accommodating those damn millennials!

Blame! I spent half of yesterday in the Urgent Care shop, and couldn’t fill my scripts until today, and one of them is prednisone, and now I’m hyper and miserable, and it’s your fault.
/giphy Oxford comma
@OldCatLady I love the Oxford comma 80% of my students have no clue what it is and of the 20% remaining maybe 2 or 3% know how to use it.
@bleedmichigan “…remaining, maybe…”
@bleedmichigan @OldCatLady I take the blame, if only to help you calm down, give you some satisfaction to offset the misery, and relieve your comma concerns.
@OldCatLady sorry but in discussion posts I do not worry about comma usage nor do I grade for it assuming that the discussion is lively. All I ask is that the sentence start with a capital letter and end with a period or applicable punctuation.
@bleedmichigan @OldCatLady
How do you feel about dangling prepositions?
@bleedmichigan @OldCatLady I thought everyone used it and the Grammer Nazis were the ones against it.
@mike808 @OldCatLady don’t care as long as the comment is understandable.

@bleedmichigan @mike808 Give it a try, and see. Oh wait, that’s ‘propositions’.

It’s okay, I forgive you.

@tinamarie1974
Perhaps this practice might become annoying to @KuoH.
Not, perhaps, the best possible way to entice someone to become willing to be Goated?
@f00l @kuoh except we do not “@” them so they should not receive notifications. It is meant to create a ground swell of support for KuoH as the Feb scapegoat.
@unclevinny @therealjrn, what do you fellas think?
@f00l @kuoh @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 @UncleVinny If it is annoying to KuoH you can blame me …
@f00l @kuoh @stolicat @therealjrn @UncleVinny aaww such a good goat! Thanks

@f00l @stolicat @therealjrn @tinamarie1974
We definitely shouldn’t be tagging poor KuoH all the time, who certainly must have larger affairs to attend to!
KuoH
@f00l @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 @UncleVinny I know it would drive me crazy.
It’s actually tough because when I see it, I automatically double check because I think it’s kuoh speaking but then my brain hurts because I thought I read a different name at the beginning of the post.
Just my two cents.

@f00l @RiotDemon @therealjrn @tinamarie1974 @UncleVinny

Oh crap! Sorry!
Unblame. 5 months to go.
@mike808 I love seeing all those 20Mb drives being put to good use. We used to make clocks out of them. One of our programmers had figured out how to make the scanner play the opening of Clair de Lune.
@stolicat Your programmer used a search engine and then downloaded and ran a program someone else wrote. That particular ‘trick’ has been floating around the intertubes since the days of DEC’s ftp-by-email gateway and playing multi-monitor Doom on Novell IPX.
/image I’m this old
@mike808 lol I’m that old, also. That was back in the when I worked in computer engineering and we were building our systems from DEC PDP-11 cards and writing some of the first CAD circuit layout systems for Tektronix 4051 consoles. Al Gore had yet to invent the internet. I remember it fondly because I don’t remember it that well.
@stolicat LOL. I once wrote an ASCII-art version of Asteroids on a PDP-11 RSTS/E for a VT102 terminal. Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away …
@mike808
128 KB of RAM, 3.3 Mhz. How did we get anything done? And the 10MB disc drives:
@mike808 @stolicat
@f00l @mike808 Single sided, single density, soft sector. That’s what I feel like some mornings …
@mike808 @stolicat At my first real job as a SW engineer, we used 8085-based development machines, 64K RAM and single sided, single density 8" floppy drives with a whopping 128K bytes per disk. BZZZ-CLACK-CLACK. When another guy left, I inherited his rack-mount hard drive which sported one fixed and one removable platter with 3.5M bytes each. 7M bytes! At that time, I had a hard time imagining ever running out of space on that drive.
@macromeh @mike808 @stolicat When I was in high school we used a dial-up device to connect to a mainframe. You dialed the number then placed the handset in a cradle for the computer to talk to the giant keyboard thingie you typed your program on. Only problem was we didn’t have any way to ‘save’ our work, so it was “one and done” when you ran the program. The results spit out onto fanfold sheets of impact printer paper, and you could change the variables etc, but when you were done and broke the connection it was all over!
Oh and the mainframe was at McDonnell Douglas in STL. Now-a-days a talented 18 yr would have all the plans for the FA-18F super Hornet on a thumb drive in 15 minutes.
Blame!!! Apple put a new battery in my laptop. They either didn’t tighten a screw or dropped something in there. Thursday made an apt to get that taken care of. First apt Saturday. Well tonight something shorted out with that and no working computer now. Fuck fuck fuck. There are a pile of jobs I was applying for and now I can’t. And I hadn’t backed my computer in a couple of weeks either. I was going to do that overnight. Shit!!! Today already sucked big time and this is now icing on the cake.
@Kidsandliz I can take the blame for Apple’s unusual incompetence (I’m sure I’ll hear other wise about that assessment) and is probably due to wild New Year’s Eve party I took them to - is the whole thing shorted or will it run with the external charger/power supply? This sounds silly, but did you try shaking it to get whatever is shorting down into one of the corners? I actually had that with one of my MacBooks …
@stolicat won’t run at all plugged in or not. Tried moving the screw or whatever it is around. No dice on helping the situation. One time only I heard the fan running but screen totally out not even apple lit on the back. As I finally replaced the screen it’s not that my old one finally died.
To make matters worse I have 2 engine lights lit in my car which the first apt they have for that is Monday. At least the car people said I’d likely not damage anything further doing very limited driving of that.
I need a damn job to pay for all this. And applying for those I wasn’t finished with when the computer died. As my backup only works on a Mac hopefully apple won’t have a cow when I use a machine of theirs to get both my resume and vitae off the backup and on to a flash drive so I can go to the library to finish applying to the ones I found which I will now need to refind.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat
/giphy sad face
Wow… that sux!
@chienfou was at apple nearly 3 hours. They pulled a screw that had been rolling around the computer. After some argument they took responsibility. Had to send it off. Earliest I’ll get it back is next Friday. They refused to give me loaner even though they admitted this is their fault. I don’t have a functional older computer. I’ll get the bad news on the car Monday.
More blame. Got the bad news on the car. I can postpone the nearly $400 item for another 1000 miles or so (they said probably should get it done by the next oil change) but not the nearly $900 item. Seriously? This much money? They said the stupidity of the design for what all they need to remove is behind the cost of spark plugs. The other not so much so on labor. A horse would be cheaper. Or maybe even a rocket ship. At the moment I can’t fix either.
And then we have the front fender liners. The driver side apparently also got knocked loose when I hit the big rabbit. Had to stop on the highway to lock tie them back on. Now the driver’s side has a big ass hole in it too. Sigh. I bought a bag of those zip ties or whatever they are called. At least those were cheap.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz please tell the big rabbit (or its surviving family) it was my fault …
@chienfou @stolicat the big white rabbit did not survive. Had I not jammed on the brakes I might have missed him. Made me sad. Wish it had been like a squirrel as they usually turn and run the other way
@Kidsandliz @stolicat yeah, it’s always shocking to watch an animal stop, hesitate, look around, then run out in front of you anyway! Around here we seem to have a lot of squirrels that like to play chicken with the cars, and the deer are always in a group, so if you see one you best look out for the rest of the gang…and don’t even get me started on the stupid asshole armadillos!
@Kidsandliz @stolicat BTW, I feel your pain. I just got a call this am from our mechanic. Over 2 grand to change out a motor in a Honda Fit that developed a valve tap after it decided to chew up and spit out a spark plug while my wife was driving a while back. I knew this day was coming, since it has been making noise for a while (probably over 20k miles /15 months) but had gotten noticeably louder of late. Decided to suck it up and do the swap on my schedule rather than wait to get stuck on the side of the road with a dead vehicle on one of our frequent trips out of town. Good news is new motor has about 75k miles so should last a while, plus 6 month parts warranty on the motor from the seller, 1yr labor from the shop so that is good too. I generally calculate my vehicle purchase price and repair costs at about 10 cents a mile, so I I can get another 20K+ out of the car it will be all good. And with a Honda, normally I expect it to last another 150K so no worries.
Hope you feel comfortable with the validity of the bid on the job you were quoted. If you have ANY doubts about your mechanic’s estimate I would make some other inquiries. I have seen too many people get gouged by less than scrupulous shops.
TL:DR car problems suck!
@chienfou Armadillos… yeah when I lived Florida I learned when scared they jump straight up and so you hit them with your bumper when had they held still you would have safely passed right over them.
@chienfou this an honest shop. It is just unfortunate in mid December I had to spend around $345 or something on the stupid thing too. Of course it has 122,000+ miles and normal stuff is starting to break due to the number of miles. I am hopeful I’ll get at least 300,000 miles out of it and maybe another 15 years (it is 10 now). Heck I got 25 years and 3 mo out of the ghetto van and it was a grand caravan. Hopefully a Toyota Sienna will better even though I didn’t own it the first 9 years of its life.
@chienfou sorry you have to replace the entire engine. Hope it lasts as long as you hope it will.

I blame all of you.
@davidwr99 Although it’s officially my fault, I will pass that along to everyone.
@davidwr99 for what?
I’m such a mess this am that I originally posted the remark below the wrong topic (the stars topic) any only just realized. Sigh.
/blame
Was washing my hands at a truck stop. Left my nice Garmin watch on the counter and drove off.
/unblame
was still in the area when headslap moment occurred. Watch, where are you?
I drove back to the truck stop and my watch had been turned in by an employee and was in the company safe. Awesome!
I left a decent $ reward for the employee. But the employee didn’t turn in my watch for the reward. The person turned in my watch because
/right thing to do.
That’s a true happy new year moment for me.
Not only did I get my watch back, I was benefitted by a person who is just plain decent and honest because they want to be that sort of person!
Nice feeling.

@f00l
/blame
Because my brain is even more than usually MIA today.
@f00l my fault - your brain was over here having brunch - I’ve sent it back over to you.
To empathize, the other day a bill payment envelope vanished entirely from this dimension between the front door and my truck, a distance of about 25 feet. I noticed it right away as I made a mental check of having everything before I pulled away. I had to make out a second check - I still haven’t found the first one. Then I went to the hardware store and left my wallet on the counter by the checkout and I didn’t realize it until I was back home after the store had closed. Luckily, an honest employee also doing the right thing found it and put it in their safe and I was able to get it the next morning.
@f00l @stolicat Yep, there is still (some) hope for the human race! I like to think that MOST people would do the right thing… I also like to thing flying cars will be a thing in my lifetime…
/giphy hope
@chienfou @stolicat
Thanks for encouragement
By the way, do you want the average person you know piloting around in a flying car?
Not sure flying cars piloted by the general public as operators is a very good idea
Blame!
I bid on a dollar in an auction and won it!
@JnKL so what did you win?
@JnKL how much did you bid on it?
@KuoH
@JnKL @kuoh @tinamarie1974 I’m confused - you bid on a dollar? How much did you bid (more than 1$?) and what is my fault in this? Or did you bid a dollar on something, and I should be blamed for your winning?
/giphy puzzled goat
@stolicat so reading more carefully than I did before he bid on an actual dollar. Of course he didn’t say how much it was actually worth. For example it could have been a zillion year old silver dollar with a misprint or something.
@JnKL @kuoh @stolicat aaawwww those lids are so stinkin cute
@JnKL @kuoh @stolicat damn phone…those KIDS are so stinkin cute
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 @kidsandliz KaL is correct. It was a silver dollar minted in 1892 at the mint in Carson City, Nevada. I bid a little under $100 for it but after fees it will come out to a little more than $100. And this one is in better condition than the one I already have. So while I didn’t really need it, when I get it I can sell my other one. All terribly exciting in the world of coin collecting!
@JnKL @Kidsandliz @stolicat well then, congrats on bright shiny “new” dollar!
Hey if you are interested, I have a nice, crisp $1 bill here in my wallet you can buy
@JnKL @stolicat @tinamarie1974 hey I’ll buy it for 5 cents - you pay postage. In fact I’ll buy 5000 of them for that price. Deal?
@JnKL @Kidsandliz @stolicat I was thinking $2.00 and I will throw in postage out of the kindness of my heart.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974 you three are hilarious. Why doncha go down to the old folks home and loosen the screws on some walkers! Buncha clowns!
Blame…I have about a grand in fish and coral being sent to me tomorrow and someone decided that Maryland where it has been 60 should have 3 inches of snow and be 16 degrees. Fortunately the coral is coming from a nice little shop in VA and the fish unfortunately are coming from California so they will have a rough go of it. Hopefully my Gem Tang arrives only slightly stressed but alive.
/image tang fish
@bleedmichigan Question about your coral - is it live? I thought you couldn’t harvest coral anymore. Is that true? Or is it a casting / synthetic?
@bleedmichigan I can take blame for anything that occurs, but our California fish, especially those headed back east, are taken through a rigorous climate adaptability program by driving them up to the mountains and letting them play in the snow parks.
@bleedmichigan hope your fish are ok.
@mike808 aquaculture minus some torch coral but it’s all live coral
@bleedmichigan Cool. Was wondering as my mom passed away a few years back and she had some coral jewelry, and vaguely remember her mentioning its scarcity in sourcing (for jewelry making). Blame the scapegoat if I misheard.
@mike808 yeah you cannot exactly take coral of the reefs. A lot is grown for the aquarium trade with a purpose of keeping reefs safe. There are a few species such as torch corals that are grown and harvested it just depends on what it is.
@stolicat partial blame all the fish but one arrived in perfect shape. One arrived swimming upside down and not swimming. Fortunately there is a arrive alive guarantee. As for the coral it was delayed a day which could be bad but might not be. So now I wait. Blame for the delay.
@bleedmichigan @stolicat pics please when everything is set up!
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 currently all fish are in the quarantine tank. Give it about two weeks and I will have some photos
@bleedmichigan @tinamarie1974 blame accepted for the upside down fish (poor baby), and I’ll get the coral to you tomorrow … I hope the quarantine goes okay
I am cold it is cold I nlame you cold hearted goat
@CaptAmehrican It is my fault, I’m cold, too. And wet. It’s January, and this pestilence shall continue until the rise of the next goat …
@CaptAmehrican You cold on a boat, in your house…?
I’m not sure who to blame. But I really want to know if @TwoFiftyFare really thought he was going to get away with the name change? Did you not think we’d know it was you @nolrak? Did you change your name in shame for your poor showing as goat? Sorry friend, but it will follow you forever!
@cinoclav @TwoFiftyFare
Name changes makes one eligible for goating.
@therealjrn Goating him again? Worst idea ever.
@cinoclav @therealjrn This is why I advertised a “low-key” goathood. It’s rough when life intervenes and torpedoes your ambitions. I’m sure they feel bad enough about it already, so I’ll take the blame.
@cinoclav
Well, yeah. Obs. But there is a precedent.
We haven’t seen @kuoh at all since the guerrilla marketing campaign started either.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@cinoclav I’m just glad he’s still around
@cinoclav @therealjrn
/giphy forking goat
@cinoclav how did you know he changed his name?
@Kidsandliz I first noticed it looking back at the end of the posts on my last day of goatdom. But it’s even more obvious here: https://meh.com/forum/topics/bleat-bleat-not-a-sheep---august-2019-scapegoat-blame
@cinoclav Odd - it gives nolrak through out that thread for me…
@Kidsandliz Really? The posts he started have the name changed now.
@cinoclav @cinoclav Apparently I was looking at the ones where he had a mention as that is what I saw first (and I didn’t carefully look at the entire thread just at the end of it). Weird.
Hey check this out. It is about Goat grabbing
@CaptAmehrican beheaded, gutted, lower part of limbs removed and soaked in water for a day or so. And I was worried about a roof falling on me …
@CaptAmehrican @stolicat Oh I am sure worse can be arranged. There are a few rather deranged people on here whom I am sure would have some novel ideas… (snicker). PS it is your fault there is no snicker emoji
Blame because my birthday was a complete shit show.
@tinamarie1974 Happy??? Birthday. When was your birthday? Today?
@tinamarie1974 Aw, we’re sorry - taking the blame and giving you at least a virtual party …
@tinamarie1974 Happy Birthday Evening - may it be better than your day! (Best I could do on the V-neck with such short notice and dealing with this on a phone.)

@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974 yeah! What they said! Happy birthday! If I run into you this weekend, I’ll give you a new shiny dollar!
@tinamarie1974 Hope your first day of your new year toward your next birthday is
/giphy WAY BETTER
@chienfou Thank you sir! Yesterday was great (except for the car issues ) and today is shaping up pretty good too!
Blame again, because today I left the house to head to PT. My car (that just recently came back from the body shop) started dinging like crazy.
The engine was overheating, stabilitrak stopped working and it stated that I needed to change the oil soon (oil was changed ~ a week ago). Luckily I was about a block away from the dealership, and as I was pulling into the garage the engine powered down.
Seriously, I don’t know how much more I can deal with right now
@tinamarie1974 thinking positive thoughts to you!
@tinamarie1974 Well that seriously sucks. They give you any idea what the problem is or do you have to wait until Monday?
@Kidsandliz they think it could be a coil or a solenoid or something else I cannot remember. I am not very good with “car speak”
I am just thankful I was within a block of the dealership when it happened. I guess I should give an unblame for that
They said they are behind and working mandatory OT, so it will be M/Tu before they will get to it. I snagged a rental car so I can get around
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 That sux! Not even a loaner car??? How old is your current ride? Under any kind of warranty?
@chienfou @Kidsandliz sadily no, I purchased it new in December of 2011. The extended warranty expired after year six. That said, it has low mileage, is garaged and gets all scheduled maintenance. I was super bummed there are issues now.
No loaners since it is not warranty work. Had to get a rental that costs $35/day. Hoping they figure out and fix the issue pretty quickly.
Unblame - the screw that shorted out my computer (Apple’s fault so free repair) has meant a new mother board, new screen and entire top half, new all the port things on the left side. Practically and entirely rebuilt computer. I was seriously pissed they left a loose screw rolling around in there, but considering the thing is 6.5 years old having it, essentially refurbished should give me more years of use out of it than it otherwise would have had. Seriously inconvenient but then again when does Apple otherwise repair a machine this old for free?
@Kidsandliz They are usually pretty good about making things right when they fuck up - glad you got it all worked out and a refurbed computer as well!
Blame!
Made pancakes for breakfast and found that someone had put the syrup container away EMPTY! Now we have a stack of pancakes and no syrup!
Unblame… we had ice and snow last night and the view over the yard and pond and trees is beautiful!
@JnKL you made pancakes and I didn’t get an invite?
@tinamarie1974 I guess I am kind of rude that way. How about this, I am taking the family to early pizza in Mt Vernon this afternoon. All y’all are invited! (BYOB and be responsible. Don’t drink or text and drive)
@JnKL well darn I guess I will not make pizza night with the car issues and all! Enjoy your night out with the family!
I will be having homemade lasagna instead
@JnKL LOL on the syrup. My kid used to put back the milk with around 1 drop in it (and just about anything else too) so that she could claim she wasn’t the one who finished it up.
@JnKL @Kidsandliz That is the most barbaric thing I’ve been blamed for yet. Here’s a quick sugar syrup recipe if caught empty in the future - it’s not perfect, but it’ll do in a pinch:
https://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-pancake-syrup-358622
The other approach is lots of butter, if your arteries can handle it.
Blame:
Weather here in Southeast is predicted to be a real bitch today. High winds (gusts to hurricane strength with lots of rain lately so ground saturated means toppled trees are a high risk), power outages, possible spin off tornadoes. Had to cancel a get together with friends we hadn’t seen in ages since we shouldn’t really be on the roads and the winery closed as a precaution due to the predictions.
Hopefully they are wrong and we can unblame you.
/giphy fingers crossed
@chienfou sending positive vibes. Hope the bad weather misses you
@chienfou That just blew through here a couple of hours ago. Not as bad as they predicted (more a media event than the storm of the century type thing - straight line winds and no tornadoes except maybe one small one). About 1.5-2" rain blowing in sheets in about 45 min (hard rain didn’t last much longer than that, was raining -normal rain with some wind - prior to that though), winds to 50-60 mph (gusts, otherwise about 40-45 steady for a short bit - they had predicted steady at 60 with gusts to 80+) already swollen rivers so likely some flooding along the creeks since the 2 rivers are already over flood stage - but so far so good where I live.
This town of course over reacted so what limited bus system we have (only a few busses total in one of the three counties that come together to make this city) got cancelled until 11. I got a call from a friend at 6:15am can I drive him to work (he arrived early so I could be home by 8 when the shit was supposed to hit the fan). So did that.
On the way home I took the frontage road instead of the highway telling people no bus until 11 since I saw people there and it wasn’t even 8 yet when I was going the other direction. One guy flipped out. He had to go to dialysis. After a second of internal debate about my safety driving some guy a whole lot bigger than I am and looking like the homeless with the amount of junk he had with him, I drove him figuring his story was real or he wouldn’t be having the cow he was having (not far - maybe 8 or 9 miles). Turns out the bags were full of food, blankets, things to do… apparently it isn’t just the chemo rooms there that are the patient refrigeration project.
Was not fun driving in that shit show though. Couldn’t see the side of the road and every time a truck passed me water was so thick on the windshield you couldn’t see anything - and I wasn’t even on the highway. Water across the entire road and deep puddles. BUT again, we only had about an hour or so of really hard rain. When I got home it was still pouring and blowing so I parked across and down the street in the hospital parking garage level 2 just in case and walked home barefoot in ankle deep or so water skipping the shoes since I wanted to keep them dry and the umbrella since I didn’t want to wreck it. Now it is fine though. No rain since about 9:30. No wind. Cloudy… Need to go get my car.
Hopefully the storm will behave the same way where you live.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz fully my fault - we are in one of our January lulls and you’re getting our usual winter storms.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat
/giphy thanks a lot!
@chienfou @Kidsandliz stay safe …
@chienfou So has it blown through your area yet? If yes was it as predicted or, like here, not as bad as predicted?
@chienfou @Kidsandliz
It was pretty bad here for a few hours yesterday. Various tornado warning sirens. Lightning that seemed to hit 10 feet away.
I think the worst may have been in Louisiana. I think some people were killed there.
@chienfou @f00l we had a lot of lightening too and loud thunder. The news here seemed to show photos of Louisiana and two MS towns. Nothing they had on the news at 6 looked all that bad. A few trees, metal awnings…stuff like that down rather than entire buildings.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @f00l @tinamarie14 Nope, it was another “boy who cried wolf” event. Got some stiff breeze, a few plastic Adirondack chairs scooted around, and my potted Meyer lemon fell over (but no damage)
Made a Walmart run for some stuff about 1500 and it was like a ghost town here. Light rain but virtually no traffic. (Tornado watch at that time). Had to pick up a couple of Redbox disks and of course it started raining more while I was doing that (it’s outside, not under cover).
Needed some basil and they didn’t have any so went to the only grocery store to try to get some and the bottom fell out while I was inside. Had to walk thru 2 inch puddles back to the car.
@chienfou On the morning news it looks like a few areas had something closer to what was predicted. Glad what was in your area was like in our area - mostly heavy rain rather than something worse. I walked home through maybe 3 to 5" of water depending on where I was but it drained off pretty quickly.
@Kidsandliz yeah, I would rather have an early unneeded warning so I know to keep alert. I realize my little spot of the world wasn’t impacted heavily this time but barely a year ago a high end EF-2 ripped apart a community 20 minutes from here.Thankfully no dead and only minor injuries, but it could have been a lot worse. So, bottom line, Hey weather service… keep me posted!
/unblame

Blame! I let the dogs out of their kennel this morning and Max went straight to his water bowl, drank a LOT of water, walked over to me and proceeded to barf around my feet.
Not happy with the barfing, not happy with the proximity!
@JnKL oh no! Hope Max is ok!
Blame! My back hurts, my wrist hurts, my father’s car is dead in the driveway, it’s time to shave the dog’s butt again and I’m in the doghouse for going for a stroll with a nice neighbor lady - which my wife said was OK at the time!
@aetris I think you need to meet my friend Julio, Don Julio
/giphy tequila
Blame because my car repair is worse than I thought. Need a new water pump, serpentine belt, coil and spark plugs plus a cooling service. That just means expensive PHUF!!
/giphy money tree
@tinamarie1974 That seems like a lot of different unrelated things going wrong. Spidey senses are tingling. You might be getting taken advantage of.
The alternator/coil/spark plugs are all electrical, and shouldn’t have anything to do with cooling (water pump, serpentine belt, etc).
@mike808 yeah I actually know the person who gave me the info and trust them. I don’t think they would take advantage of me, otherwise I would check around
@tinamarie1974 You could also ask about splitting the work to spread the expense. Also, Synchrony has an auto repair specific credit card that offers 6 months 0% if you’re sure you can pay it off. Most auto places take it. My CarX does. You can also see if there is a signup bonus/discount if you do.
@mike808 yeah the only thing that is not “necessary” is coolant flush and that is only about 10% of the total bill
Just going to hit my savings and I guess double down to replace it as quick as I can. Ugh
@mike808 @tinamarie1974 well, as it’s my fault, I can say that it’s often all those other things to fix have been sitting there waiting to fail in their own way and schedule - better sometimes to deal with it all while the hood’s up.
Blame!
Snowed and snowed and blowed all yesterday afternoon and night. Haven’t turned on the yard light but I imagine the garage is drifted shut. Not looking forward to shoveling that crap! Then, the high is supposed to be 5 tomorrow and daughter has archery tournament Sunday.
Blame for the weather!
Blame my snow probably for today has decreased to 1” from 3” I want snow. It’s all your fault.
@bleedmichigan come get it!
Blame (on myself) - for my computer crashing AND the internet here going down for 3 days - I was worried about neglecting my goat duties …
@stolicat You should have been more worried about missing the meh-rathon
@Kidsandliz got back up and running just in time!
BLAME - hookworm meds for cats. Explain to me why two cats think it is candy (including one who then wanted to lap it up out of the jar), one tries her damnedest to spit it out and two foam at the mouth… Sigh. 3 days in a row now and 3 days in a row in 2 weeks. There has to be a better way!!
@Kidsandliz One of the worst thing that I am to blame for is the continuing practice of pet meds being in pill form. Check with your vet - most of them can be crushed and mixed with tuna juice or something and squirted in with a syringe.
Needle-less syringe. Of course.
ouch.
poor kitty.
@stolicat Actually this is in liquid form. I am ace at giving my cats pills. Have that one down pat. And shots. This liquid med shit though is a real PITA. They spit it all over, foam at the mouth and drool… made a big mess. One of the foam at the mouth dudes I caught and syringed him in the mouth, stupidly (oh yeah your fault for this too) on my bed. Now I get to spend some time washing off the quilt. Can still smell the meds due to that. Oh and spit in the cat bed. The one they fight over. Now we shall see if the lingering odor that that med (washed it off but that’s all, didn’t machine wash, just used a paper towel and no soap) drives 3 of them away from it.
@Kidsandliz wow, I really fucked up this time …
@Kidsandliz I have to give one of my cats liquid medication for seizures 3x per day. It still takes me and my husband both to do it. He holds her… I cup her head in my left hand and tilt her head back. Then I squirt the medication down her throat. I have to hold her head firm (not hurty) otherwise she tries to twist her head away. If she twists, it will make the med go into her mouth, which causes foaming. If you can squirt it down the throat, there should be no foaming. I also follow it up with about one teaspoon of her favorite food to help get the taste out of her mouth. And I have the pharmacy add tuna flavoring, so that may help too. I’ve been doing this 3x per day for 1 year now, and this is the routine that works 100% of the time. Hope that helps
@LisaCS Thanks for the suggestions! I think my issue was not quirting back far enough. What is baffling to me is that one cat was going to lick the med out of the container while 3/5 hated it.
@Kidsandliz @LisaCS there is no accounting for individual cat taste preferences - I have this bottle of citric acid based cat repellant, two of them make the most awful face and run away when they smell it, the third will roll in it and lick it up where I sprayed.
@LisaCS @stolicat Yes that is true. Several of mine wrinkle their noses, turn their heads and back away when an orange peel is put by their faces. Others act like the thing is invisible.
@Kidsandliz Ya, you really have to have that syringe nearly to the back of the throat, otherwise it gets on the tongue and then massive foaming occurs. I have 6 cats, which are all rescues from people moving and leaving them behind in our neighborhood (one had kittens too.) I’ve been doing the pill and liquid meds for several years now at various times. I had trouble with the liquid at first because I didn’t want to choke her with the syringe, and I didn’t want to hold her head too tight. She cooperates like 90% of the time. But the 10% where she twists her head and only gets a half dose of medication is why I hold her head steady every time now. It is stressful even on good days but she’s seizure-free and that’s all that matters
@LisaCS I had been afraid if I put it too far back I’d somehow manage to get it down her windpipe. I guess I’ll stick it in more when I do it tonight. I hold one hand on the name of her neck and some it at the side of her mouth with the syringe end since I have no hands left to pry open her mouth.
@LisaCS well this time 2 I got it in the back of their throat like you suggested and other than if looks could kill, very little was lost. The other two… well I can’t even find one of the syringes as she kicked it out of my hand with a rear foot and a front paw side swiping it so next time the towel wrap. The other one spit out a good 1/2 the dose and do had to dose her twice.
@Kidsandliz I’m glad to hear that at least a couple of them got it. It’s soooooo difficult to do alone. I tried that once and it ended badly. My husband and I have to schedule our time around the medication since it’s every 8 hours. Look at it this way… at least you don’t have to do it forever
Alex Jones is riding around town in an armoured vehicle today. I’m staying home.
@sammydog01 my blame for letting an untrained animal roam loose - I thought he was in the backyard pen with some kibble.
@stolicat He needed chained to a stake in
his heartin the ground too.Hey you reprehensible Goat!
How come the nightly temps are at it below freezing and yet I still have allergies from cedar/mountain juniper?
Drat!
I’m kindly offering to share all this pollen w everyone from Oklahoma and Louisiana since you are all in range.
Hey there, @therealjrn! Enjoy!
@f00l Crap. My nasal cavities feel it. I’ve been needing my Navage nose cleaner a bunch lately.
@therealjrn
This is a “moderate pollen” year.
So I’m just “miserable”. “Normal miserable“.
During bad years my eyes are bloodshot after 10 min outdoors, and many people w both respiratory issues and allergies in the Hill Country and near the border area need special medical treatment.
@f00l When I used to take people canoeing and camping for a living up north (including up north in Canada with tons of pine, etc. trees) the pollen would land on the water and clump into little balls. We’d have to filter the water first through a bandana or something or we’d clog up the water purifier filters. And of course what happens here too is having yellow cars every day/night due to pine trees and their pollen at certain times of the year. I think I prefer scraping ice off than removing pollen that thick. That much pollen totally sucks. Sorry you are having that in the WINTER!!!
@Kidsandliz
Every year Dec-Feb, worst pollen infestation usually being mid-late Jan.
This variety of Mountain Juniper/cedar grows at its most concentrated (to cause allergy symptoms in Texas) thickly in northern Mexico and south Texas up thru the Hill Country around Austin.
Some years, when a strong wind hits, so much pollen comes off the trees as to obscure them completely. From a distance it can look like fire smoke.
@f00l @therealjrn @Kidsandliz - massive pollen attacks is one of the many insidious acts of nature I am to blame for - in solidarity of misery we are preparing for our own annual late winter onslaught of pine, cypress and fir pollen that will be coating our respiratory systems, clogging our cars’ air filters, and staining wet clothes and pet fur with yellow splotches.
If its any consolation, remember that it’s all happening because the tree is trying to have sex with your nasal system …
Click, click, paste…let’s try this again. Just out from the penalty box!
Unblame Because tomorrow starts the NHL All-Star festivities in the Lou! I am so very excited and have plans to attend as much as possible. 🥳
Blame because I could not afford tickets the the actual game. Crazy expensive
Blame because we are suppose to get freezing rain tonight and SNOW thru Sunday. Travel and parking is going to be a fucking bitch. Also, I am going to freeze my ass off at the 5k on Saturday.
So blame + blame - unblame = BLAME.
@tinamarie1974 Something must be my fault if you were able to wrangle tickets for the Stanley Cup and the parade but not the All-Star Game.
But think of it as being one with the great game of the frozen north - what’s hockey without cold weather?
Thank you for using the proper Blame facility. Your blame has been accepted and your account properly credited. As noted before, photo-documentation is required if you actually “freeze your ass off.”
@stolicat ah, sadly no tickets for the cup series, I watched it on tv, they were far too expensive. I DID end up in the parade, TOUCHING the cup there and then later in the summer at another event. I should get a chance to touch it and get my pic taken w it again on Friday 🥳
If my ass falls off I promise to send a full length pic of myself for all to see!
And I take the blame for posting incorrectly. Who the hell knows how that mess happened
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
BLAME!!! Was driving to pick up my kid to take her to the grocery store and something flew off the back of the big truck in front of me. I couldn’t see where it went (no street light and it was dark) and jammed on the brakes. I hit it and it got jammed in my wheel. Damaged the side panel of the car between the car door and bumper and the fender liner (somehow bowed it away from the hinge side of the door). Truck didn’t even know something came off as it just kept going and it had no license plate!! Why the heck can trucks have no license plates? Is that even legal?
But what the heck is this thing? Probably a foot or so in diameter, maybe 3 or 4" high and weighs a freaking ton. I could barely pick it up to move it off the road.
@Kidsandliz assuming you are ok?
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 yeah, I hope you are okay.
Ah, so that’s where old number 9828 went to. Obviously my fault, I’ll make sure the cargo is properly secured in the future …
Not sure what that is - some sort of grinding wheel, maybe a liquid clutch plate, or piece of a pump? Wish the photo was higher res and we could read the UPC code.
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 Yeah I am OK. Looking at the photo on my phone there is one set of numbers and letters FDQ (might be an O with some mud on it)B 2421 and then the big number below that is 9828. I can’t read it on the phone as it is washed out. Likely due to the flash since it was darker than dark there.
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 OK just googled that. It’s a torque converter. Appears they are expensive little buggers. Well not so little. The truck driver that lost that off the back is not going to be happy. I probably should drive that 19 or so miles back to it and go get it and sell it on craigslist.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974
Was just going to post that it’s a torque converter. It’s the thing that makes automatic transmissions work their magic. It’s job is to conserve angular momentum and translate rotational energy into controlled mechanical energy as the transmission needs to shifts gears smoothly.
@mike808 @stolicat @tinamarie1974 Thanks. Since it is new do you think it would be worth me driving back to get it to try to sell it or having had it fall off the truck and then me hitting it would make it, essentially, broken? Sucker is incredibly heavy solid metal so not so sure how it can be hurt since it wasn’t a high speed thing. Maybe 40-45mph.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974
Prob not worth it to salvage other than recycling the metal - it’s a safety issue for a mechanic to put a TC in your car that they bought used “as is” from someone that found it on the side of the road.
So, I’d pass on it.
Here’s how a TC works:
@mike808 thanks for that info. It weighs a ton. I’ll have to look up what recycling pays by the pound to see if it is worth the gas to go get it. It would have been worth it if falling off a truck and then being run over by a car wouldn’t have damaged it. I had been hoping since there wasn’t a dent or nick on it (my car got the worse end of the deal) that I could sell it used since those parts are pricy. Would have helped pay some of the rather large deductible I have with my car insurance. Sigh.
Hey Goat! Thanks for all the fog!
@f00l
Fellow patriot, over here the USA fogs you!
@f00l My sincere apologies that it’s leaking out your way, it has been pretty thick lately.
@f00l @stolicat Hey goat fix the leak in the wall around your fog supply to keep it contained.
@f00l @Kidsandliz we were going to have a new wall built, and have Nevada pay for it, but that didn’t work out …
@Kidsandliz @stolicat
Nevada may know a lot about building walls but I don’t think Nevada knows much about building fog walls
/giphy fog wall
@f00l @stolicat Pro’bly cuz the goat is a bit foggy about how all this works
@f00l @Kidsandliz They’re pretty good at it - ever run into any fog problems in Nevada?
Blame - cats who think it is play time. On my bed. While I was sleeping. Need I say more?
At least this time is wasn’t playing with a still live cockroach toy on my bed while I was trying to sleep which is what happened to me several years ago. They’d jump up, play with something, jump down. Jump up play with something, jump down. Turned my light on. Jump up on my bed and spit out a roach they were gently holding in their mouth. Play with it. Roach escapes off the bed to the floor. Jump down. Catch it. Jump back up on my bed. Spit it out… I grabbed it and threw it out the window. Cat was not happy with me.
Forgot the UNBLAME - after that lovely torque converter. fell off the truck and damaged my car I had moved my car off that one lane each direction country highway at the edge of town road so I wouldn’t get rear ended. Was right by a house and an older guy with a pick up truck pulled in his driveway. I walked up to the truck and luckily he decided I wasn’t dangerous (darker than dark there due to no streetlight) and decided to help me. He found a crowbar and he managed to move the bent stuff out of the way of the wheel so I could see if the car still made the nasty noise when I drove it. Fortunately for me that worked.
As he was helping me we were talking. Anyway it came up that he needed a winter jacket. I had pulled some bags from the dumpster at the thrift store and one had 2 brand new men’s winter jackets, still with tags, in it. I offered him one, presuming one of them fit, as a thank you. I hadn’t yet taken the bags to the place that gives stuff to people in need, although I was going to see if the consignment store would take these 2 new jackets (this store is sort of picky about brand names) and now, fortunately as it turned out, hadn’t had time yesterday. One fit. Then he told me he had just lost his job and was having trouble finding another one. Makes me really glad I could help out. That jacket was worth more to him than the $30 or so I could have gotten from the consignment shop even though now I have a huge deductible to pay.
@stolicat just know SO, SO, SO, SO much blame is coming your way tonight…you should prepare.
/giphy you have been warned
@tinamarie1974 This might help to keep him from escaping.
/image goat trap
@tinamarie1974
A GOAT ROAST? Gotta stay warm, and fuel is fuel. Bonus for the tasty cabrito, too.
@mike808 here! I saw lots of those in mexico. Poor cabritos. I will pass
@mike808 @tinamarie1974 @Kidsandliz
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light
@stolicat. OK, I am now home and ready to dish out some blame. As you know this is All Star weekend and I have lots of activities planned.
Tonight was the alumni game with many of the “old timers” playing, including an 80 yr old original Blue. I had great seats down by the ice, purchased the moment they went on sale. Imagine my suprise when I received a full refund for my tickets a half hour before heading out. Apparently Ticketmaster had the wrong seat map and sold lots of tickets that did not exist, mine being some of them. I was told I would be switched to standing room only…really?
After some heated conversations TM was able to locate some seats next to the ice (1st row) that they graciously “gave” me
On to dinner. Ordered and after a half hour I was told it would be “a while longer” before my sandwich and fries would be ready. I asked if I could bring the food to my seats because the gates had opened and the game would be starting soon. Was told no…this is an issue as I came here to watch my childhood idols, not eat a sandwich outside of the rink. Asked for a refund…argument number 2…Finally got my $$ back.
Lets not talk about the weather
After ALL that, the game was amazing, saw many of my childhood idols and left with a big smile on my face feeling like a kid again!
But why did you let me deal with all that stress just to watch a game?!??!?!
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 There is this rumor that stress and hardship build character. Apparently the goat thinks you need a lot of it.
/image ain’t gonna want character
@Kidsandliz @stolicat omg I already have sssooooo much character. I was at overload tonight. That little muscle by my eye was in spasm I was so freaked out…
/giphy eye spasm
@tinamarie1974
When I was a young’n back in Chicago, we religiously attended the Blackhawks games in the old Chicago Stadium, and if they got in the playoffs we would stand in line for hours in the Chicago winter to get standing room tickets in the back of the nose-bleed seats, which were so expensive we had to sacrifice our weekly lunch money. Then we would walk 10 miles uphill in the snow to get to the game …
Then we allowed the big entertainment cabals to come in and run our sporting events, and I certainly take the blame for letting them get away with what they’ve done - I can’t stomach going to most sporting events nowadays because of the level of hassle you’ve encountered.
Next time you go, look for my second cousin Stevie, he usually works entrance 3A as security - he’ll help you smuggle your sandwich in.
@stolicat damn, I needed Stevie
And BTW I was at Chicago Stadium once for the Blues last regular season game against the Hawks before United Center was opened. I was not very popular there…got a few beer cans to the head, but the building was pretty cool. It was a bucket list item and was worth the hype!
/image chicago stadium
@tinamarie1974 It was a fun place - Will you be going to any of the other events, so I can be prepared?
@stolicat haha. I have events today and tomorrow. I am hoping to be dishing out unblames all around
@stolicat @tinamarie1974
Doesn’t every team in the NHL “make it to the playoffs” these days?
@mike808 @stolicat I mean not ALL of the teams make it
@stolicat @tinamarie1974
Do tell. Enquiring minds want to know about this event…
@Kidsandliz @stolicat well if you knew anything about the Blues/hawks rivalry it would be self explanatory.
Back in the day first fights would erupt in the crowd.
/giphy nhl fight
@tinamarie1974 clearly I know nothing about them. Been to about 2 hockey games in my life…They’d shove each other into the walls and hit each other with the hockey sticks. Seemed to me they just should have called it
childrenadults fighting on ice.@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974 never been to an NHL game but many AHL games (Rochester Amerks). Totally loved the games in the 70’s/80’s. As much fighting in the stands as on the ice. Helmets were optional.
I still remember a guy that was at almost every game. He always had this huge wide tie on, holding a beer and would yell at the players every few minutes in a drunken stupor. The food was bad, the floors were sticky and we loved every minute of it.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG
Loved the Amerks. I miss them.
We went to a bunch of the local ECHL games when there was a team. There was a guy with a giant beer belly that painted it, pulled up his shirt, and danced for the camera. And we had cheerleaders. For reals. One game our goon broke the scoring equipment climbing from his penalty box to the other team’s penalty box and we sat around for 20 minutes while they fixed it. Once we were down to 6 players because everyone else got thrown out for fighting. Good times.
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @tinamarie1974 Ahhh, the good old days! I forget the name of the Amerks enforcer, but it was always fun when he got on the ice. I’d swear his gloves had springs on them, as quickly as they would come off. And man could he check!
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @ybmuG I miss old school hockey. My fav was when the goalies would end up at center ice brawling.
/giphy goalie fight
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @tinamarie1974 Just remembered the guy’s name - Val Johnson. Did a quick Google search and found out he was the first black player for the Amerks and the first U.S.-born African American player in the NHL with the Sabres. I never knew that. He wrote a book about his experience. Think I might have to get it.

I love the East Coast Hockey League.
I have a Hampton Road Admirals hat. I should drive down for a game sometime.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG And another Hampton Roads classic at the first drop of the puck.
All it needs is someone skating around taking his clothes off.
@ybmuG
I remember that guy! He was good and that sucks.
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG
There was some kind of a minor hockey league team in Fort Worth when I was a teenager, I think. and my brothers and I used to go to some games, and they were dirt cheap and a lot of fun.
@f00l @Kidsandliz @stolicat @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG I was reminiscing about hockey and found a photo of the superfan. Maybe I was wrong about the belly paint.
@f00l @Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @ybmuG with or without paint, hilarious
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @ybmuG oh that may be a good read! Thanks
@tinamarie1974 I know, right? It’s in the queue!
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG
Yeah, but you can see in that clip after the traditional clumsy fall to the ice the Penguins goalie is holding his punch and looking at the ref so they don’t have to really fight …
Goalies are usually smart about this …
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @tinamarie1974 I also like how one of the refs shrugs as he skates by…as if to say “Goalie fight…meh!”
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @ybmuG not always smart. Pretty sure I was at this game
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @tinamarie1974 is that you in the front row clapping for the well-laid punch? From about 0:20 to 0:28.
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG Ok, I retract that statement about goalies being smarter about fights - I checked you tube and there are hours of NHL goalies wrecking havoc against other goalies, players, refs, fans, and camera guys, and throwing sticks, water bottles, and even the entire net.
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @ybmuG oh you must have seen some Rask videos. He likes to have temper tantrums!!
@Kidsandliz @sammydog01 @stolicat @ybmuG not me, I cannot afford those seats, never could!!
Anyway that was a while ago. I was in HS or college
@tinamarie1974 @ybmuG You could afford the best seats at an ECHL game. Been there, done that.
@sammydog01 @ybmuG likely, hockey is hockey. Actually I like watching the itty bitty kids play and that is free! Super cute
@sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG
@mike808 @sammydog01 @ybmuG oh my goodness
@mike808 @sammydog01 @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG when I was in HS (80s) I had a history teacher who was a huge Flyers fan. A couple guys in my class were also taking a video editing elective. They had a project to show they could edit different clips for a theme, so they decided to do all hockey fights as the theme, planning to give it to the teacher for “bonus points.”
They came in to history class all smiles and “presented” her with the tape and explained the theme. Turns out she hates the fights, said they resulted in sticking players in the penalty box (or out on injury) when she was paying to watch them play.
Never saw 2 people go from elated to crestfallen so fast.
JIC who hung out at “old woot”, way back when, didn’t see this mention in the “miss the marathon” topic and would want to know …
Also, other woot news:
https://forums.woot.com/t/my-last-day-as-cto-of-woot-last-day-pranking-bocs-oh-my/527504
@f00l The meh goat has dominion over the Woot forums now?
@therealjrn
I think a few people (who were once active at woot regularly) read the goat topic, and perhaps don’t read so many other topics here, and they might want to know about @rogetray.
@f00l You just keep on being you, don’t mind me, as if you ever did. ; )
@therealjrn
It’s self evident that I’m a total idiot right?
Besides, something about “Oklahoma” makes us natural enemies. . Right?
I don’t think we can help it. Out of our control.
@f00l “We?” Naw.
@therealjrn
I don’t realize that, each year, you root all-in for the Longhorns during the Texas-OU game!
How very enlightened of you!
/giphy “longhorn enlightenment”
@f00l Whatever. This “joke” is
wearingwore out. Get some new material, kid.@therealjrn
Oh, dear.
South of the Red River, that particular topic is widely considered to be a perennial and reliable standard for endless “put-up-with-it” good-natured humor.
One of its considered and deliberate “virtues” is the unending repetition (and the repetition is part of the point):
First: it’s way old;
then groan-worthy old;
then on to grin-and-bear-it-with-gritted-teeth old;
and finally:
“true inner peace” within the listener. Satori.
It’s considered so great that maybe folks should charge for it.
But, ok. Perhaps more like “water torture” to others I suppose.
I will defer.
@f00l Don’t do it for me. Do it because it the right thing to do. Take that shit behind the barn and shoot it.
@f00l @therealjrn so, I have no idea what that was about, but am I to blame for something there?
@f00l Yes. Yes you are @stolicat. Totally all your fault.
@therealjrn
You just persuaded me to get that humor topic a luxury suite at the Paris Ritz, and feed it up on caviar and champers!
Wow thx!
@f00l [fingerquote]humor[/fingerquote]
@therealjrn
[fingerquote]indeed[/fingerquote]
!!!
Hey you reprehensible goat
/unblame
because it’s Girl Scout cookie season
I just spotted some in the wild but I couldn’t purchase any because I didn’t have any cash on me that moment.
now you know
time for Thin Mints
/giphy Girl Scout cookies
@f00l I think they take Zell now.
@therealjrn
I asked particular group of kids (with their moms), and they said cash only, at least for today, so I’ll come back next week with some cash
I could have used zelle or whatever it’s called I suppose. I guess this troop isn’t set up for that yet.
@f00l I was just bullshitting ya. They had a Zelle(sp?) ad with some off-brand scouts in it.
@f00l @therealjrn - the saturated fat? Totally my fault …
@f00l @stolicat @therealjrn Oh cool. All sugar and fat. No wonder they taste so good! At least 4 of them is considered a serving instead of 1 or 2.
@f00l @Kidsandliz @stolicat Do Indiana Girl Scouts take Zelle?
@Kidsandliz @stolicat @therealjrn
Hang on a sec. Let me book first class to Mumbai and find out!
@stolicat looks like you get ANOTHER blame tonight. I showed up at Fan Fest and ended up (1) standing in a wintery mix for about a half hour or 45 min. (2) forgot my umbrella so I had to hold my coat over my head the whole time while (3) I was freezing since I didn’t have my coat on yup, pretty stupid
Finally made it inside and (4) the line to get ones pic w the Stanley cup was a minimum of FIVE HOURS. Ended up skipping that opportunity and just walked around checking out the vendor booths, other trophies, etc…
All of that said it was fun and my niece had a blast. She was so excited!
Summary Four blames and one unblame, so you get three blames
@tinamarie1974
(1) “Wintry Mix” is one my favorite Poo-Pourri seasonal scents - definitely my fault for your having to stand around in it for either 30 or 45 minutes …
(2) I hid your umbrella in the closet. Behind the big coat. Near the WW boots.
(3) Yup, pretty stupid. My fault.
(4) I’m working with the NHL (and other major sports leagues) to development Virtual Trophy Interaction Experiences (VirTIx ), so that fans can be lined up in front of a green screen, be provided with VR visors and full body suits, and have the experience (and a photo afterward) of clutching and caressing and, well, whatever, the trophy without the lines and inconvenience of having to bring the actual trophy. Besides, I’m sure you’ve read some of the stories about what the players do with the cup during the off-season? You want to cuddle up to some of that?
(5)Your niece is one lucky kid to have such a fun & whacky aunt.
@tinamarie1974 I know, wrong team, but she was so inspiring …
@stolicat that is awesome regardless of her team!
POPSOCKETS! COURT DOCKETS! FOLK ROCK HITS! AWESOME!
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 Looks like that girl is wearing a pet food/water dish on her head.
@Kidsandliz @stolicat but she is so proud of herself, you can’t help but smile!
BTW, she is suppose to be the Stanley Cup…I know you don’t follow the sport so I wasn’t sure if you knew
@stolicat and thanks, but I take full responsibility for my stupidity!
Lets see how today’s event goes… a 5k in 34 degree weather. I am sure there are no potential issues there.
@tinamarie1974 Well now that you say that it makes sense rather than a lady with a cat or dog bowl on her head. LOL
Blame - So just found out via the TV that there has been a boiled water alert since yesterday (Friday) afternoon in this entire city. They said low water pressure due to problems at the treatment plant. Umm I noticed low water pressure mid week. Nice it took them so long to notify us.
When I washed all my dishes Thursday I noticed low water pressure (apparently they can wait 3 days to notify us of problems and the need to boil water - how nice is that? Not!). I guess I get to boil water and wash them again. Sigh. And clean all the cat water dishes, their fountain and then refill.
More blame - It is only 6:30 in the morning but I guess I’d better get dressed and go to the grocery store to buy some bottled water before it all sells out.
Yet more blame - Due to problems with multiple water lines in this area (broken pipes and so street water “water fountains”) I had a stock pile of at least a dozen milk jugs full of water. Last week I finally used that water for other things since it looked like the water problems in this area (repeated broken pipes and at times no water) had finally been fixed and stayed fixed. I figured we were finally safe. I guess I figured wrong. Sigh.
@Kidsandliz Unreliability of municipal water supplies is something worthy of blame, especially in areas where it’s been deregulated and controlled by suppliers without elected boards. I’ve lived in plenty of those. One of the scarier things I’ve seen is watching the utility workers digging up old water lines and what they look like inside - yuck! Big yuck!
(that’s the inside of the lines, not the workers)
I invested in a Zero Water filter dispenser, mainly for the cats (getting older and gotta protect those kidneys) and for maintaining longer life for appliances and cookware. It’s pricier than most, but cheaper in the long run than bottled water and is proven to really work and I think pays for itself in minimizing damage and danger from crappy water.
Unblame
@Kidsandliz
@stolicat. You will be happy to know I have very little blame for you today! The drive down to the 5k was easy, parking was a breeze and I had great company. It was, however, fucking cold!
I had a few layers of clothes on and it just was not enough.
We finished, got our medal and headed to a very long breakfast with a larger group.
It was a great day! So unblame
@tinamarie1974 So, no picture of ass freezing off?
@stolicat sadly no, it is still there
I can tell you it has been HOURS (finished before 10) and my thighs are still numb/tingly from the cold. I am thinking a hot bath may be in order later
I went snowboarding Saturday for the first time. It is monday my muscles are still sore. It is your mountain goat fault
@CaptAmehrican my fault - we like to give you that little push to get going …
UNBLAME
This one is especially for @narfcake
Last minute unblame for ya. I had carpenters in redoing my pantry and MB closet. They are FINALLY finished and both turned out beautifully
Now to try to get all those shoes and purses back in NEATLY phuf
/giphy shoe closet
@tinamarie1974 I am amazed at people who have proper closet storage for shoes. And being a professed non-shoe person, I am always amazed at how many pairs of shoes I have.
@stolicat so that begs the question, how many pairs of shoes do you have?
@tinamarie1974 I’ll need to go count. Not that many, I’m sure.
@tinamarie1974 25. But 4 are on the way to Goodwill. I’ve seen other people’s closets, I know 25 is not very many in certain circles …
Your turn - I’m wagering >75
@stolicat actually, that is a respectable number! Ill post pics of mine when it is all organized…but when I do realize that is just the main closet, there are others
@stolicat it is not finished but clothes and MOST of the shoes have made their way into the closet. Purses and storage is tomorrow/Monday. I am exhausted.
@tinamarie1974
@Barney @tinamarie1974 looks like TM74 likes purple, too…
@Barneybot isn’t a real bot.
@Barney @ybmuG I do purple and blue A LOT I realized after sorting my clothes lol.
And for those wondering the thigh high boots have not been added yet. There is a special spot for them, but I need to get inserts so they store standing up.
@Barney loves purple.
@tinamarie1974 @ybmuG
@Barney @tinamarie1974 @ybmuG so I only count 64 pairs of shoes so far …
FWP
@Barney @stolicat @ybmuG there are more shoes/boots that would not fit and they have been sequestered to another closet. Also I have about 35-40 pr that I have added to my donation pile.
Also, FWP?
@tinamarie1974 Um, do you have a special storage place for your whips?
@Barney actually, yes. It is called a box cannot have that stuff out in the open.
@tinamarie1974
I think maybe
/image Imelda Marcos shoe collection?
Actually nice you have the space to turn a bedroom into a closet so you can easily find all your stuff.
@Kidsandliz so jealous of her collection. I still remember being in awe when they showed it on the news.
I have been saving for A WHILE to get this
Also
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 maybe you can get him to build you one.
@Kidsandliz @ybmuG Kurt is welcome here anytime!
I did rent the VHS tape as a kid and asked my dad to build it, he was NOT amused and I did not get it.
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 just don’t fake some “accident” where he loses his memory of who he is and you convince him he’s your husband…or something.
@tinamarie1974 depending on what kind of shoes you are donating you might want to think about dress for success. They give job interview and work clothing/shoes to women who have a job interview but no clothes to wear to one.
@Kidsandliz yeah I give to a local charity that works with the homeless to help them get back on their feet. So job training, job interview skills, clothes, etc.
The shoes are everything from flip flops to spikey 5" heels for a night out on the town. No boots in the pile so far!
@Kidsandliz @ybmuG omg, no! I don’t live in Arkansas!!!
Disclaimer: No disrespect to those living south of MO
@Barney @ybmuG @kidsandliz @stolicat my boot trees arrived and I am so excited they JUST fit in their cabinet!! WHEW!!
And yes, I added a few pair to the donation pile. Now I can buy some new boots!!
@tinamarie1974 Do you worry about those boots walking into your bedroom late at night and attacking you? I’d put a door and and a BIG lock on that cabinet.
@Barney well, not until NOW!!! Rest assured the door to the closet is shut tight.
Sleeping with one eye open tonight
RIP @tinamarie1974. Er… I mean have a restful sleep.
@Barney
@stolicat @tinamarie1974 25 is a bit.
I’ll count mine.
4 pairs of sneakers for work.
1 pair outside of work.
2 short boots.
2 tall boots
1 dressy sandal
2 pairs flip flops
1 old sneaker pair for getting gross outside
So 13.
Only 6 of those are really in the rotation.
I haven’t worn my nice tall boots since 2018/2019 winter. My other tall boots are my platforms that I usually only wear for Halloween and I skipped the last two because I couldn’t be bothered to wear anything but sneakers. My dressy sandals haven’t been worn in probably close to 4 years now.
I get why people love shoes. Being a lady with large feet and tall, I can’t be bothered with heels. There are tons of beautiful shoes but I probably can’t walk in them or they don’t come in my size. Maybe if my career choice was different, it would be a different story.
@RiotDemon @stolicat there are likely about 15 pair I wear regularly (favorites), the rest depend on the outfit.
Big feet are the excuse for my obsession. It is so hard to find cute shoes in my size (11) when I need them. I just grab them as I find them, assuming I can add them to the rotation. I think there are only two pair on the shelves that I have not worn, but they are pretty new (less than 6 months old), so I am not too worried about that.
@tinamarie1974 I’m in the 12/13 range depending on the shoe. Only places local that carry my size are Torrid or Lane Bryant. Payless was the best for dressy shoes until they folded.
If I need to dress nice I just wear my short boots under my jeans/slacks. If that’s not fancy enough, I’m not going.
@RiotDemon I completely understand!
Check out walkingcradles.com. They sell up to size 13 I think. Their shoes are a little pricey, but they are very comfy and really well made. There are some “old lady” styles, but also some cute ones.
I have a few pair, usually I vet them on sale/clearance at the end of the season.
@RiotDemon @tinamarie1974 My selection is heavy on the occupational need:
4 pairs in the Goodwill box
I spend most of my day on my feet, and I’m a big fan of Merrells as the only shoes I can wear without putting in support insoles.
@tinamarie1974 (photo of tall boots)
Now there is the TinaMarie we have all come to expect. Might want to drape your
whipstoys over them for effect though@stolicat
Yeah Merrells are really nice. There used to be a store around here that carried them (and other higher end similar in style shoes) and would progressively, and ultimately, dramatically discount them over time. If you were patient (and got lucky your size didn’t sell out - a 10 fits me but often they only started with one pair) you could get them for $20-25. Back when I had a good job I bought maybe 4 or 5 nice pairs of them. Now I wish I had bought more of them as they are all wearing out.
Well, my goat has turned and my low key tour of duty is over, and I’m not sure what happens next and who’s supposed to do what, but here’s a low key wrap up:
As promised, I handed out approximately 1,750 stars in the last month, including every posting and reply in the blame thread, except my own and those by @mediocrebot. Despite the excessive glad-handing, my altruism score dropped 2 points.
We learned many things whilst being blamed - some of the many highlights:
So I will continue on my way now, and like many of the preceding goats be un-characteristically quiet for awhile. Thank you, that was low-key fun, - I’m going for a nap.
and if you’re imbibing for the Super Bowl, impeachment hearings, Iowa Caucus or State of the Union, please have a designated driver. Goat out.
@stolicat thank you for your service! You did good
Baby goat is super cute and cuddly, but does he have broken legs???
@stolicat You done did good. All the fuffles were directed at Oklahoma, it was not a mutual fuffling.
@stolicat nice job
@bleedmichigan @stolicat GOALIE FIGHT!!!
@stolicat a fine job worthy of the goat tradition (said the one who has known all of 7 goats including himself - yeah, maybe a meaningless complement - well, I enjoyed it…)
@stolicat In leu of the ‘we will never see them goat trophies’ I can send you a torque converter (you pay postage ) to commemorate your much appreciated service to the community. As a side bonus - when you stub your toe on it you can blame the next goat.
@stolicat
You forgot BREXIT!
Lame-ass January goat.
Someone must be blamed!
@mike808 OMG, I did! and that’s unforgivable, considering my slavish addiction to cable news! I take my final blame and bow …
here, have a that’s 1751!
@stolicat
All shall be forgiven.
So say we all.
