Smashed is not a cooking level, heh. I’ve seen commercials on TV lately advertising ‘hand smashed’ burgers and to be honest that just…doesn’t sound great LOL. Hand formed, maybe, sounds better!
@PooltoyWolf I always wondered what the big deal was about smash burgers, until recently when i saw it demonstrated on a show & found out it’s a technique that creates a unique level of doneness, a crispy-but-juicy texture that’s similar to deep-fried. This is a link to the show, and the smash burger part starts at about the 11:40 mark. It definitely goes beyond well-done!
@PooltoyWolf To date, I have had precisely one “smashed” burger, from the drive-thru of a Freddy’s in Colorado Springs late one Sunday evening. I have never been as disappointed with a burger as that one left me. I have declined all subsequent “opportunities” to obtain another, either from Freddy’s or their many competitors.
@werehatrack Funny; we used to have a Freddy’s near my house. I loved it, and when it closed, I went to great lengths to find another location! I love the burgers, fries, and the various ‘concretes’ and shakes.
EDIT: I have also never heard Freddy’s refer to their own burgers as smashed, though if they’re like Steak n’ Shake’s, it makes sense.
@PooltoyWolf Steak n Shake’s burgers are succulent by comparison to the paper-thin meat-thing in that Freddy’s product; it had the approximate consistency of a tostada shell.
@werehatrack You must have got a lemon of a burger! I have had Freddy’s almost as much as SnS recently, and both are very tasty to me. Ditto the fries.
I prefer medium well, but these days, unless you grind it yourself, it’s safer to opt for well-done, which is ok for 80/20, since it doesn’t turn into a hockey puck as easily. And, it can’t be too charred–i like to taste burger, not ash.
I’ll take my burger too.
@yakkoTDI too late, I took it
@Cerridwyn Curse you!
i’ll take my burger HOME, away from prying eyes and drooling lips.
@phendrick
/showme prying eyes and drooling lips staring at my burger
@mediocrebot
Ugh! “at”, not “on”.
And “lips”, not “lids”.
Can i get a re-do?
@mediocrebot @phendrick Hey, it’s Hamburglar’s ex-girlfriend!
@ircon96 @phendrick That is some medium rare nightmare fuel.
@mediocrebot Cloudy with a chance of existential horror.
I have been personally victimized by the book Toxin by Robin Cook. I will not eat ground meat unless it is well done.
@kjady But is he a real cook?
@aetris Nah just a good author who described the effects E Coli on the human body.
@aetris @kjady He was a real doctor also.
I tell the place where I am ordering my Beef, tell them XXXwell done or Burn It!
/showme a Cat grilling a steak well done
…and yours too.
Medium well but I also like black bean burgers.
@phendrick I don’t think ChatGPT did any better.

@ircon96 And here I’d assumed it was just whatever technique was used to prepare a patty like what you get at Steak n’ Shake!

Internal temperature of 165 degrees.
ground beef is not steak, so no I don’t need it medium rare. Medium is fine thanks.
