Ikea Swedish Meatballs
8I had them for dinner yesterday at the “local” Ikea. I’d only ever had the frozen types frozen grocery stores as a kid and it came in Stroganoff. It was really tasty though. Makes me kind of wonder what the real Swedish Meatballs fresh from the meatball fields of Sweden might taste like.
What interesting thing(s) did you recently eat?

I have those swedish meatballs in my freezer from a trip to IKEA a few weeks ago. They are delicious!!
As far as what I have ate recently, how about alligator?
@tinamarie1974 I bought the vegetable ones also frozen. And they’re fairly bland, but they work well in some pasta sauces.
I’ve had alligator tail, that was interesting.
@Targaryen I have never tried the veggie ones. I just get the regular beef (?) and they are tasty. The alligator was actually for a Mardi Gras celebration a few months back. It was ok, but I don’t know that I would be trying to find it to have again.
@tinamarie1974 Have not eaten gator although the other day there was a baby one in the parking lot down the street (no I don’t live in FL). Nor have I eaten road kill. I have told my daughter over and over that the reservoir is full of gators and be careful if you swim in there. Not sure she believes me. they usually thin the place out with 100 or hunting so permits every year. You don’t usually think of central MS as gator country.
There is a store on the edge of town that sells only “wild animal” meat - more normal sounding things like deer jerky and then weird stuff (no longer remember the names) that I had no idea what animal was the involuntary muscle donor. I went with a friend there but have never bought anything. The parking lot was entertaining. I since wished I had taken a photo of the one car I saw in their parking lot that was incredibly gator blinged out in side and out. Amazing. I had never seen anything like it. The people in that car were totally strange so decided it would be prudent only to gape at a distance and not with a camera.
It’s not particularly unique or exciting but I’m currently eating one of my favorite snacks, a stroopwafel. Even better if you microwave it for a few seconds.
@cinoclav
American attempt or Dutch?
I have never tried a US made one that compared to the ones I’ve had from Holland. My daughter said she had one somewhere obscure but doesn’t remember where.
They are num num

@Cerridwyn Made in Holland. Surprisingly, Costco had them at a really great price. This brand: http://lechicpatissier.com/stroopwafels
@cinoclav
this is the brand I’ve been sent the most
@Cerridwyn @cinoclav aldi has them sometimes too!
@tinamarie1974 I’ve bought them there too. Tastes the same.
@Cerridwyn @cinoclav The dutch seem to get their sugar breakfasts in a more direct way than we do. We disguise some of it as healthy cereal. They seen to go straight to open faced sandwiches made of butter and cake sprinkles, chocolate spread… Interesting when I lived there. I liked their poffertjes. Better than our pancakes. Looked like donuts holes but were these incredible pancakes. Also when I lived in Germany there were these shredded pancake like things (I forget what they were called) that were also really good.
@cinoclav oh my gosh I so love those
@cinoclav I love putting these on top of a mug of coffee or hot chocolate until it gets the right amount of warm.
I had a foot long Subway BBQ Rib sandwich on jalapeno cheddar bread with pickles and onions.

I had deviled egg potato salad (along with grilled boneless pork ribs) tonight. Yum
hmmm… no Ikea near me. Didn’t know they dealt in food. Never had a commercial swedish meatball that tasted like homemade. My mom made great ones!
Not interesting, but the meatloaf I made for dinner last night was pretty tasty.
I used to live near the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, and their restaurant had some seriously awesome meatballs and Nordic cocktails. I totally recommend checking it out if you are ever in the area.
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
I had mapo tofu yesterday; one of my favorite Sichuanese dishes. Spicy and complex, with really textural porky bits and really soft tofu.

Breen!
Enjoyed a 75cent veggie dog today (after checkout, not the dining room). Way better than the veggie balls.
@becca Get a real 1/4 lb dog from Costco for $1.50. Veggie dogs just be nasty.
Instead get an Impossible Whopper from BK or Impossible sliders from White Castle if you want to go plant-based.
@mike808 Have you tried the IKEA veggie dog?
@becca I didn’t know they have veggie dogs. I’ll have to try some the next time I’m there.
I’m fermenting garlic in buckwheat honey. As it ferments, thin honey leaks out from under the lid. I possibly shouldn’t be tasting it, but I am and it’s delicious.
@mossygreen Damn you! That’s my secret recipe for savory garlic meade.
@mike808 It might become mead?! That was not on my radar.
