If you're selling one of your extra Kindles, be careful!
21So I posted up one of my Kindle Fire HDX devices I got from Meh last week. I listed it on Craigslist and surprisingly haven't heard anything since posting it... until today.
Here's how the conversation went:
Piece of shit: Is this Andrew from CL with the Kindle?
Me: Yep
Piece of shit: Ok so this is 16gb never registered right?
Me: Right. Still sealed in the box. Still in the plastic.
Piece of shit: sweet. I'll buy it for $220 and day this week. can you send me the fsn so i can verify its not stolen? Should be on the box somewhere
Me: I can provide a receipt for it. Not comfortable giving out the fsn# to someone I don't know
Piece of shit: sorry, I ask for fsn's for everything electronic I buy. it's not like I can do anything with them...
Me: You can report it stolen rendering it useless. On amazon's FAQ, it states not to give that info out to anyone. It's not that I don't trust you in particular. I don't trust anyone I don't know. I'll guarantee it's not stolen. If you show up with cash in hand, you can verify it with Amazon before you leave.
Oddly enough, he stopped responding. I knew it could be reported stolen, but wasn't aware why anyone would bother such a scam until I did a search. Apparently, the FSN is all you need to get a replacement. Amazon sends you a new one with a pre-paid shipping label to send the defective one back. They have it shipped to a vacant house and never bother sending it back. Meanwhile, Amazon blacklists your Kindle making it useless. You're none the wiser until you sell it and get a pissed off buyer on the other end.
Just be careful. There are lots of pieces of shit out there that like to take advantage of decent people.
By the way (this might be fun) his phone number is [REDACTED]. Feel free to send him a text if you'd like.
If anyone is interested in a Kindle Fire HDX, I have one :)

The part that set off the flags for me initially was that he was offering way more than my listed price. No one does that. If anything, they try to talk me down on it.
Why can't people put so much effort into doing GOOD things?
Glad you didn't get scammed.
@pitamuffin There is a forum devoted to explaining how to rip people off. That shit pisses me off. I vote we spam his number with texts
@capguncowboy I would tend to agree, but this isn't 4chan
doesn't matter -- turns out it was some disposable number anyway
@capguncowboy that's super shitty. was the number local to your area?
@marklog yes. Phone number shows he's in a town about 20 miles from me
@capguncowboy While they may be a piece of shit (and it sounds like that's a possibility), posting their phone number isn't cool.
Nothing good comes from posting personal information and it can quickly get out of hand.
Appreciate you giving everyone a heads up on the possible scam, but we don't need to be leading a crusade.
@JonT I understand! Thanks!
@capguncowboy <3
I agree with @JonT here. Dude sounds like a real turd but there's always a chance the number is spoofed or it's his mom's phone or whatever.
@JonT is the Bruce Wayne of meh. In public he speaks out in favor of the law, but at night he seeks justice on his own - cracking skulls, and signing guys up for annoying text alerts.
@JonT It was you that signed me up for that subscription to Hustler, wasn't it?! (Thanks btw.)
He probably duped two other people this week already, such a shame people like this exist.
I remember when I was selling unopened software, they wouldn't ask for the serial number, they would ask for another number. This number (I forget it offhand) just verified for the buyer that you actually had a box with legit software.
This other thing is a straight up scam...
And yes, if you're not haggling on Craigslist to get the item for cheaper than list, you're doing it wrong.
@capguncowboy Eff word this A word hole. Corroborated. @jont don't worry about the phone number, it's a spoofed wholesale SIP account that gets disconnected as soon as he's found out.
of course, I didn't screen cap the bubble where he asks to see the FSN.
@marklog Marklog fingered the culprit!
also, i'm 30lbs lighter than that google plus picture. don't judge the fatty.
@marklog still your fault.
@marklog Would you have given that POS your FSN had I not posted this?
@marklog Wait seriously? Multiple people pulling this scam or same guy? How does Amazon not shut this down?
@Collin1000 I think you answered your own question there the word of the Day is AMAZON
@Collin1000 not sure, but his opening line was exactly the same.
@capguncowboy no, I don't trust (or like) people. Happy to find any excuse to keep it that way.
@marklog I think the most shocking thing is that it is only 67 degrees where you live?
@mydrivec that's Detroit for you. It'll be snowing next week
@capguncowboy no joke. We've had major flooding these last few days and I wrote a sweater yesterday. Ridiculous. At least I'm driving six hours north, to the tip of the middle finger on Thursday for a family vacation. I'll probably have to bust out the snowmobiles.
@marklog writes sweaters and takes all blame people...what else is there for him to do
@escowhat that'll teach me for being too lazy to review for autocorrects
Hey, that was me, and I really wanted to buy your Kindle. You totally misunderstood, I was asking if I could get the FSN app on it (Fox Sports Network) .
@phatmass LIAR, nobody wants that app!
Just a suggestion for the POC https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.catfacts
