"LIVE ON MARS FOR A YEAR
NASA is offering the chance to pretend to live on Mars for a year. To prepare for eventually sending astronauts to Mars, NASA began taking applications for four people to live for a year in something called the Mars Dune Alpha. That’s a 1,700-square-foot Martian habitat, created by a 3D-printer, and inside a building at Johnson Space Center in Houston. Volunteers will be paid to work in the simulated environment but will have limited communications with home, restricted food and resources and will have to deal with equipment failures. There will be three experiments, so if you don’t get chosen for the first one, next fall, you have two more shots!
Requirements: Applicants must have a master’s degree in a science, engineering or math field or pilot experience. Only American citizens or permanent U.S. residents are eligible. Applicants have to be between 30 and 55, in good physical health with no dietary issues and not prone to motion sickness. So you pretty much have to be close to being an astronaut!
